In the newspaper advertising game, it is very important to have each day planned accordingly, Everyday there is a deadline for the next day's newspaper at 4:30pm Atl time. It is imperative that you have a very close rapport built with all your clients, that way you understand they're advertising needs and have they're business advertising on a frequency basis. I enjoyed my mangers, I was a top earner however I did not want any special treatment, I also have helped new employees and some that were struggling at the time either with a little motivation, or a few simple things that could payoff big. I enjoy leading by example. My managers certainly did respect me for that and I knew it was not my role to help others however I am a team oriented person, it's my nature to help anyone whatever the case may be, as long as they want to help and better themselves. It's very unfortunate, I had to part ways as I was a very ill young man and I need time to get healthy again, I parted ways on excellent terms with the intention on returning. Times & Transcript in Moncton had no desk, phone or computer for me, however I was offered the same role at the Telegraph Journal in Saint John and The Daily Gleaner in Fredericton. I am not to interested on moving to Saint John. My resume and information is on file at the Times. There was not much I did not like about Brunswick News Inc

A typical day involves being assigned a feeder machine and jogging (using a vibrating table) to straighten out a stack of flyers to insert into the machine so it can work at max efficiency. If there is a problem with several flyers in a row or the machine, it will shut down the entire line of machines and you will need to assess the problem, fix it and restart the machine, or have a manager look at it if the problem is severe (rare). I learned how to keep up with a fast-paced work environment and how to stay consistently focused. Sometimes two people work at one machine so there is a deeper collaborative effort to be had. The management is adequate, they respond to machines that are consistently causing stops but they are reluctant to give breaks, stretching them out as long as possible, leaving us with only 2 breaks, including a 15-minute lunch on 8/9-hour workdays. The hardest part of the job is when you have a fast machine and you also have to cut bundles of ads and make sure you're not inserting a flyer facing the wrong way. The most enjoyable part is talking to neighboring co-workers.

Seeing and talking to the kind customers that care and understand the job we're doing.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
-Having to deal with working seven days a week.
-Dealing with management calling you all hours a day asking when you're going to finish after you finished cause their computer system is slow.
-Not enough pay for fuel.
-Description saying "Work at own pace" but want you to show up to off load truck at 6am, sort parcels to town, scan in, load car all without pay until you actually start delivering. That can take up to 2 hours and while fighting for space to sort and scan your own parcels.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture is good only when talking to the nice customers. Dealing with management is not fun and do nothing for the wear and tear you put on your own vehicle.

Go in to scan in parcels and load car to go deliver to your designated area. Help others where needed.

A perfect balance for a Family individual. Respected and appreciated. Would only be too proud to be employed with Brunswick News in the future. Loved this job. Started most days with reading and process emails from most important to important based on their publishing dates the client requested. Communicate to many customers daily as I continued to building a very strong and trusting relationship. Respected each clients requested and explained in an honest manner if things were possible. Worked with a very productive team with in out department and respected each departments time line deadlines and worked diligently with the Press room's time lines so there were never advertising that was late for production. Worked hard, manages your time and enjoyed every task performed. A great group of co-workers makes a great group of people to spend your day with. When over time was required, we were always rewarded with a paid meal and time off for the hours worked. Very fair!!!

What is the best part of working at the company?
There is no best part of working for this company. If you deliver their items they don't take taxes out of your paycheck and you will have a big tax bill when tax season comes unless you work on the dock.

Paying a big tax bill back to CRA plus customers don't plow their driveways early in the mornings so carrier can deliver customers items.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day like at this company isn't really good

A typical day at work would start off with checking e-mails as I prepared for the daily 8:00 AM meeting with the other managers. During these meetings anything that would impact production would be discussed including planning ahead and dealing with any issues needed.Would then work with the employees including appointing assignments for the workers go over reports on previous runs results and planning for the day and week ahead. I would do a lot of floor supervision with other Supervisors and take the time to encourage and help others when needed. Would also work with other departments to help with the success of overall production, would do scheduling and payroll. Overall I grew as a person, worker and leader.

I wouldn't recommend this company at all. The drop captains treat you good at first but if they don't like you they do everything in their power to force you to quit. Also they treat you like dirt and talk down to you and talk about you behind your back. They are very poor communicators and don't tell you when the route you may have been assigned permanently has been taken from you. When you file a complaint against a drop captain which is what I did I was punished by having my route that I was assigned taken from me and not told. They do nothing about the complaints and do not get back to you as I went over the distribution supervisors head. 

Overall great place to work at and grow.

Don't work there. Inflation is going up, wages are going down. If the "boss" at the time doesn't like you they personally attack you and he is very arrogant. The rules change every 30 seconds and they act like they were always in place, they arent respectful of you or your time. It's supposed to be contract work and are 100% treated like an employee and they don't care about you.

They are very unorganized in their process and don't give you the proper information for employment. You NEED commercial insurance for your vehicle. Do not go by what the ad says, the ones that write the ad and hire aren't the brightest either

Do it only if you're a young journalist who needs experience, and get out after a year. This company is shady. They move people from newsroom to newsroom so you are always bouncing on a contract, never building seniority. If you are new to the field or unknown to them, they will lowball you with salary and not offer benefits or vacay time. But if you are someone they are headhunting, they will promise the world. It's an unfair system built on playing favourites. 

That said—nicest coworkers I've ever had. It's a "we're all in this together" mentality. Everyone knows how sh*tty and evil the management is.
