Buckerfield's is a great company to work for!

I relocated to the Parksville area back in 2018 for my career with Buckerfield's, and I'm so glad that I did!

We work hard, and it's a busy environment, but we have have a lot of fun, too! 

We get to come to work every day alongside a great group of people and THE BEST customers! There's an instant connection with our customers due to the fact that they are shopping with us because they share common interests, passions and hobbies - whether it's gardening, horses, dogs and other household pets, farming and more. 

There's the option of seasonal/set term positions as well as long term, permanent roles at the retail stores.  We have different positions available at the retail stores in clerk/cashier, garden centre, and warehouse operator roles. But we all get to do a little bit of everything and work as a team to make the store run smoothly. 

There are lots of opportunities for staff that are looking for chances to learn, grow and advance within the different roles at the retail stores. 

I've been in the industry for 20 years now, and I  can't imagine doing this for anyone else now. I'm a lifer with Buckerfield's!



Used to be a good place to work. Was a living wage company. Company sold and now people get only get raises that are less than 1/4 of the inflation costs. Entry level employees make just about minimum wage.  Starting wage hasn’t increased for 2.5 years since the new ownership took over. Employees have to work multiple jobs to pay their bills. The big boss and owners don’t care. 
A decent staff discount, but they don’t sell basic needs so it’s not a good trade off for the low wages. 
So disappointing to see a family first and family orientated company now only driven to make the owners richer. 
There is a bonus ability but the benchmarks are outrageous and everyone knows we won’t make extra so people start to not care. It’s a slap in the face to say “bonus” and then make the requirements so unattainable you never make any extra. 

Like many other reviewers have mentioned, Buckerfield's is toxic from the top down, ownership to management.  Management is poor and hides from issues of all sorts.  It is an unsafe and unhealthy environment from both a physical and mental perspective.  Ownership brought in a "living wage" when there were rumours of unionization.  As another reviewer commented, if you bring forward your concerns, you will be gone sooner rather than later.  Management had different "rules" for different staff members.  Don't plan a career here because you will be culled when you get to the higher pay rates.

Buckerfields is a great place to work with good wages. Very inclusive workplace, and so encouraging. I have a couple disabilities and everyone is so accepting of it and accommodating to me, especially our manager. I've learned so much working here and there are lots of ways to learn more and expand your knowledge! We often are treated to meals and treats such as pizza, hotdogs, and Tim Hortons, as well as birthday treats!

I enjoyed my time at Buckerfields, solely because of the farm community, some of the fellow customers and staff. Management however expects you to be their pet and if you aren’t then you don’t succeed. The shifts are good, the pay is not. Word of caution- don’t apply here. There is no moving up , no real one on one training. You get thrown into it. You get disrespected. 

Although you days are usually very productive there, there is always EVERY day the looming manager around the corner whose face tells the story.  The manager appears to be in a foul mood every day.  The offer of learning new things is given however NEVER followed through with.  The manager is a control freak.

Love working here! Everyone is team oriented and work well to communicate with each other. Manager is approachable and reasonable. Eventually I hope to work full time, hopefully in time, benefits. No experience in agriculture but do find it interesting. 

Unsupportive management (promises never kept), unprofessional culture and broad neglect of responsibility and accountability. The only effective group were the warehouse team,who were very helpful (over worked). Wage is decent but not worth the headaches and lack of support that come with it!!!

Uses higher pay rate to keep unions out of stores. Ownership group is 100% money motivated but pretends to be a mom and pop shop. Does not treat employees well. But good benefits. If you question anything, they'll find a creative way to be rid of you.

Lots of support needed for staff and Head Office Managers are unaware of the realties of the difficult workplace. No structure, support, training is non existent. Head Office manager is Lead by someone with no industry knowledge and it shows in the direction this company is in.
