I can’t speak for all stores but this particular store is a mess. First of all the schedule is borderline unethical... examples...

When you arrive at this store you don’t know what time you’re going home until an hour or two into your shift. A manager will walk by and yell “8 hours today” or “5 hours today” employees just nod like something out of the movie 1984. 

I am still unsure how to react to this because I’ve never worked anywhere where the schedules work this way. Ever. So your posted schedule is obsolete/useless. When you confront management about this they give you some made up excuse about how Burlington works on some “shift system”... huh? Okay? Also, don’t plan on relaxing on your “scheduled” days off because at any moments notice a manager will come up to a group and announce that you’re working the next day due to an unannounced truck and you’re expected to come in “IF YOU ARE SCHEDULED OR NOT!” Burlington relies on a point system so if you don’t show up or call out without a detailed doctors note, it’s points added. Certain amount of points... you are terminated. So, you’re often threatened with that when scheduling is changed with less than 24hrs in advanced. Sometimes you’ll get a call too from a manager canceling a truck and telling you not to come in, just to find out that another manager or higher up didn’t approve this and you didn’t show up. Ticking off your co-workers who showed up that day.

Also, if you plan on leaving because you know, an employer can’t force you to stay. You’re accosted by managers “where are you going? It’s six hours today?” I made “the mistake” of having a doctors appointment during a shift. I let every manager I know that day that I couldn’t stay. They all were okay until the next day when one manager confronted me and told me “next time schedule your doctors appointments after 12pm FOR FUTURE REFERENCE” and walks away. This, granted is my 3rd week on the job so how am I supposed to know? 

Getting to my point of being hired. You’re basically hired on the spot. You get a bait and switch during your interview. You’re  asked “Do you have open availability?” When you answer yes, like me, you’re hired! Then you’re on to orientation where nothing or vague descriptions of your job title are explained. After orientation is over you don’t get to leave... no, you’re thrown in to your first two hours of work! Where a puzzled or busy manager tries to train you on the spot. 

Like I said, I can’t speak for any other Burlington store except for this particular store. I did enjoy my discount and some management and co-workers. This is a long review, but I felt I needed to air this out as I feel like something isn’t right at this store. I can’t work at this place and joined the revolving door at this location. I survived longer than the group of people I was hired with. Most quit days later or a week or two later. Hopefully someone from corporate reads this and addresses these issues immediately. I doubt they will though.

I used to be a cashier when I first started out at Burlington which was actually pretty fun to be honest but part timers usually are very limited to hours. I would get maybe 8 hours a week and if I was lucky, I’d get called in if there was a call out, so I applied for full time Sportswear (the women’s department) and let me tell you, as a full timer, there is no raise, you still make the same wage, it’s just more hours (about 39hrs/week) plus the responsibility of a whole department, basically organizing, merchandise, making tickets for things that don’t have tickets, audits, all while being the only person on the floor picking up after other people’s departments and being a back up cashier during the busy store hours because they schedule like 2 cashiers (which is one of the busiest stores because it’s right in the shopping center)because hours are limited. Also we never get help in our departments and it’s frustrating because there is a lot expected of us. So if you’re thinking about being full time, I wouldn’t recommend Burlington, the work doesn’t match the pay, they expect a lot but aren’t very rewarding and only really care about helping “fix up” the departments when we have a “visit” from like HR or VP and ask us to come in super early to do a whole months work in about 20 work hours when it should’ve been done regularly on a daily basis, but we can’t ever get it done because the store is always busy and management expects us to “blitz” through other people’s departments because there’s no floor coverage and then be a cashier. Also they don’t work with your schedule, they want you to be available 24/7 and they aren’t very accommodating.  I will say though the benefits are the coworkers, they are all really fun to work with and make a miserable day enjoyable.

The coworkers are the best and we have formed strong friendships because we really have to step up and work as a much more efficient team. It would not be as strenuous if the managers did more, they are often found more in the office rather than actually being out on the floor and actively putting in as much effort as their workers to keep the store up to standard. Even after being in the office for so long, schedules are consistently barely put out the night before the start of the week when it is supposed to be sent out 2 weeks in advance. Its a good starting job to get customer service experience but management has to do better at being considerate to the employees work/life balance

Burlington regional leadership is inept. In a 40,000 square foot store there should never just be one manager, one sales associate, and one cashier. This structure requires store leadership to function as store staff instead of focusing on leading. As a result, leadership workload such as scheduling, training, etc require staying late or taking work home = ZERO work-life balance. HR department recognized inconsistencies and initially tried to help but after Regional Manager got involved sided with them.

The schedule, fast pace and my 2 manager amazing human being both of them

The lack of hours and the pay

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is diversity which is great but there is a lot of jealous people 😉 if you do a good job they hate you, other than is great

Go to work, be on time, do what your supposed to, if you can help others finish your task go home

I was miserable working here. The company was very poorly run.  The managers all had different ways they wanted things done and rarely communicated with each other about it. Management also played favorites a lot when it came to promotion and hours. There were far better workers who would get pushed aside because of it. There was a supervisor who insult and berate employess. The only pros were that most of the supervisors , other than the one, were very polite and helpful and most of the coworkers were great.

A typical day you are taking product out in the sales floor, but yet the tanks where loaded with merchandise some items will fall out .The work place culture was alright just depends who you work with , and the hardest thing it's the schedule some days you get two hours working other days they don't stick to the schedule .I enjoyed working was the co workers they show you how to do the job and their patience . 

Typical day starts with locking your belongings in a locker, using a time clock to track hours on location, a 15 min break after fours work or 1/2 hour break when working 6 or more hours where you use the time clock to track your break.  Punch out with the time clock before leaving the building.  The break room and computer access room were both in a relaxed environment.  

Rudderless company with conflicting directions from management. Out with the old (reliable and dedicated employees) and in with the new (antagonistic and power hungry) management. This place is akin to working in a tomb, waiting for the final nail on the coffin to be hammered in. No rewards for a job well done, just a blame game place.

Work was truly busy. You are truly moving around a lot, always on your feet. You are doing a lot of lifting. You are moving back and forth in different areas all day. It's the same as every job, team effort, pulling each other's weight and following directions are very important on a job site.
