This company was managed the worst of all catering companies I have worked for. 

1) There is no schedule drawn up as the managers are so behind on work and disorganized. The manager would call me (or email me) at 10pm the night before an event (even for morning events) to ask if I could work it. Do not expect to be able to make plans because you will never know if you work the next day or not. What is worse is that if I did have plans and informed her that I could not work, she would get very noticeably angry and didn't hesitate to take that anger out on me. 
2) When the manager would email to ask if I could work, if I did not reply within 2-3 hours she would call me and email me several times (border-line harassment) and leave angry voice mail messages on my phone.
3) There is no training WHAT-SO-EVER (health and safety training included, even while working with chemicals) and if you make a mistake, the manager would call me and yell at me rather than take responsibility for the lack of training.
4) Guests would order meals which were supposed to be free of allergens etc. But managers would not come to some events to make sure things went smoothly. And even if they did come they never confirmed who has specialty meals (no pre-event huddle meeting, or layout of seating chart like other catering companies do) so often people who have life-threatening allergies would accidently get regular meals.

The absolute best part of the job was the people I worked with. It was a delight working with such great people. The owner is a great guy as well and treated staff with dignity and respect. However, I couldn't stand being under-paid and working for people I could not respect.

I hope this review warns people applying for Bytown catering. Choose a different company.

Was recently hired for their Morrisburg locations.  And I kind of regretted it.  It's a waste not want not kind of atmosphere where no food goes to waste. Food very rarely gets thrown out. I'm honestly surprised that someone hasn't showed up sick from either the food or the cleanliness of the kitchens. 
For a minimum wage job, management makes sure that you are always busy, always working. Even if you don't get a chance to take a lunch, the company still deducts it's from your pay.  You don't get any choices on that.
It is not a job that you can rely on for hours. You can be scheduled for 6 hours and be set home after 3. Or during the few busy weeks.of the season you will work straight through for 6 hours, each day, but get paid for 5.5 hrs. (If your lucky to be kept for your whole shift)
. You can't forget that these restaurants are contracted out and ran by a catering company, hours are not quarantined in anyways.
 If you have bills to pay, this job won't pay them. 
Co workers are really nice. But that's really the only perk to the job. Besides from free food during work.
Food quality is low, very low,  with high prices too...
It's an easy job. Cook food serve people, clean and prep. For a rural area, and high gas prices the pay and hours are not worth the job. 

This job is suitable for a high-school student, collage or university who live at home during the summer months.

I have worked for a couple catering companies from the Ottawa area and the one thing they have in common is that they are ran very cheap.

There are some specific expectations or preferences that are insisted upon, which can be difficult when training for the position. Communication between management and staff is also at times difficult, its just something to be aware of.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Respectful and team player type environment, everyone's trying to help get food served as fast as possible

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Mornings are typically not busy, you're putting out food for the day, baking or making backup containers of food. Lunch time is the busiest, its taking orders, prepping plates, grilling and frying foods and sending them, go go go

I have been working with bytown catering  for over 6 years, and it has been an excellent experience. The management team is professional, supportive, and always encourages growth and learning. The work environment is positive, team-oriented, and focused on delivering high-quality service to clients.

Every event brings new experiences, from weddings to corporate functions, which makes the job both exciting and rewarding. While the work can be fast-paced at times, the teamwork and support make it enjoyable.

Overall, Bytown catering is a great place to build a career in catering and hospitality, with opportunities to grow, learn, and be part of a professional and dedicated team.

I currently work as a cook at Bytown and my experience has been very positive. The work environment is friendly and collaborative, which makes the day-to-day much more enjoyable. There is good teamwork and mutual respect among staff, which I really appreciate.

The company also offers good benefits and real opportunities for growth. I've been able to develop my skills and feel supported by management at all times.

I would definitely recommend working at Bytown to anyone looking for stability, a positive work environment, and the chance to grow professionally in the culinary or food service industry.

Bytown Catering has provided me with wonderful experience, skills and great memories, though I would not recommend this position. The hours worked are overwhelming, and your schedule will not be established, often until the day before. 

The management is poor, they are generally unorganized. They will over work their staff, leading many to quit. They do not appreciate the hours of overtime you put in. 

On the positive, I have been to an astonishing number of weddings and learn how to deal with stressed clientele in an appropriate manner.

The work environment is very team oriented.  Everyone works together to get the job done and to ensure a positive experience for customers.  Management is very supportive and pitches in when required.

At times the line ups can be extremely long and the work can be fast paced.  Management is very supportive and helps where needed.

Friendly staff, exciting events. The best office view in town.

Busy but rewarding. Long hours some days, but lots of customer interactions.  Predominantly happy due to the events.

In the beginning, the job was ok.
Management pretended to care, staff turnover came on like a tsunami, overworked, under paid, promises broken and the list went on.
Management began to show it's true form, constant harassment, no accountability, or staff to cover call outs or time off.
Calls and texts at home when you actually get time off,  a complete train wreck! If you have any self respect, stay far away.
