Capital Region Housing (CRH) is home for over 9,000 families in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. As the largest provider of over 4,500 social and over 600 near market homes, it works with organizations and government agencies to develop, support and improve communities and the lives of families and individuals.

CRH has been helping people find homes since 1970

It is originally incorporated by provincial ministerial order as the Edmonton Housing Authority (EHA) in 1970, manages over 4500 social housing rental units and over 600 near market housing rental units, and offer both townhouses and apartments throughout the city.

Its vision is to build quality homes and inclusive communities with engaged people. Its mission is to improve the well-being of children and families in communities through a continuum of quality housing options, supports, and partnerships.

My duties include;
Distribution of incoming & out going mail 
Organization and sorting of client files
Administration & maintenance of applications & client confidential information
Maintaining phone calls & emails in regards clients personal information
Reviewing Lease Agreements, policies and procedures with new clients.

What I have learned:
How the government systems works in regards to low income housing. I also learned about the diversity of people that need the extra help. I also learned more about my own set of skills and how far I can push myself.

The hardest part of the job is pushing myself to keep up with the extensive work load.

The most enjoyable part of the job is getting great feed back from clients in saying how much they appreciated our help.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Coworkers are docent and nice people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Top management approach to everybody else. You can feel that they have hidden agenda of their own.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
From organization leadership you feel uncertainty and manipulation.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard working environment. A lot of issues to be solved. Meeting leaders from other departments . Negotiating with vendors.

Once trained in my position, the daily activities are predictable but since this position deals with people, no one has experienced every situation, which keeps the job more challenging.
Training for most departments needs to be more consistent & thorough, as well as having supervisors & management leading by example even when it is inconvenient.
The hardest part of the job is dealing with jaded co-workers whereas the most rewarding part of the job is making clients feel their needs were heard.

I ran a crew of 2 guys and myself doing heat treatments. Posted notices on doors for treatment. Worked with contractors doing pest control. Tried to help tenants out as much as We could. Enjoyed the work the people I met were great. Some management were great others were there just to collect a paycheck. The human resources department lady is number 1 in her job. Always supportive and caring knows everything there is about her position. Really miss this place

A typical day involved a minimum of mandatory 10 hours work and many hours of week-end, early morning and evenings.  Dealing with a majority of immigrants gave me a enlightened knowledge of other cultures and belief systems.  As an independent contractor management played a small role in the day to day work.

Working at Capital Region Housing was great, I learnt a lot and created long lasting relationships with some of my coworkers. I started at Capital Region Housing as an practicum student and then was kept on for a little longer to continue my learning in my first office job. They made it easy to transition from a school layout to a office layout.

The staff was very welcoming and friendly, it was great getting to know people from different cultures.  My job duties kept me on a steady pace day to day, the training was very easy to grasp.  The hardest part was getting to know such wonderful people and having to leave when my contract was finished.

Capital Region was a fantastic place to work. Even at times when we feel the stress of our tenants and those that are on the long wait list to be housed, when you finally give the new tenants the keys to their new home...Best Feeling Ever!!

Working for Capital Region Housing Corporation I was able to open my business as a contractor. I really enjoyed my time with this company. I missed working with the staff at Capital Region Housing Corporation.
