What is the best part of working at the company?
Place is the garbage. Lots of bad ego coming from the management. No respect for employees. Lots of stress spread on employees from upper management since there is no communication between departments

Always last minute decisions made by management, causing not as much physical, but mental stress. Stay away from this place if you can. That's my suggestion to all people that are looking for the job. It doesn't matter how much you put an effort to get everything done, at the end of the day you don't get appreciated

There is no culture, I will describe it with only one word. A very bad place to work

Used to be very busy, but not anymore. Seems like that company is losing the customers, and losing the compass as well, due to bad management

Only God knows what the logic is behind their job prioritization. The fabrication supervisor seems to have the only logic and is a fair man though you can barely understand his English. The office plays all kinds of business strategies against their work force that has created an atmosphere of deliberate adversity. 

In the fabrication shop alone, they have gone through 13 foremen in the past year and a half. They got rid of the long time foreman, and several others, because they were too friendly to the workers. They got rid of 6 machine shop foremen for the same reason and I'm no longer sure how many they had. I was considered a long time employee having been there for 3 years. Most don't last 6 months because frustration drives them out.

Once properly trained, the skilled men work without much supervision in the fab shop but the machine shop is always under a microscope

They over use a select few welders to pull all the weight, expecting more out of them than the others. The only thing being good at what you do gets you is more work for not even a thank you from management. Zero accountability from other shifts or departments, management makes everything up as they go and a schedule is non existent, next to no welding engineers and the machining engineers don't know anything and treat you like an idiot. Management believes producing quality parts will raise moral and don't take employee input seriously and say the classic line about how they care about their employees health and well-being but if you're going through mental health issues and they would rather get rid of you than ask what's been going on. Normal corporate company where they care more about money than the people making the parts

The general systems they use for tracking inventory, scrap, defects, and reworks parts, are outdated and inefficient. Too much paper work that simply gets ignored. There is no planning, it's simply a mess. The supervisor was actually awesome but he doesn't have enough corporate power to actually let him run his section efficiently. My fellow welders and forklift drivers were pretty awesome too.

But recently the good ones have been quiting, including me. My one regret was giving them a two week notice instead of just not showing up one day.

Overall everything is good in CGL. Pay rates, benefits but everybody new is quitting this job for one general reason (including myself) that one of the supervisor here is very toxic. He doesn’t know how to talk to company employees. Management is supportive to him because he probably works good but that doesn’t mean he can do whatever he wants to the employees on the floor. Other supervisors are great but he is the worst supervisor i’ve ever encountered in my working career. Pay rates or benifits does not matter if you are treated in a horrible way every morning. Everything else is just fine.

Didn't even last a week. Got hired told one month training on days. 3rd day in send me to afternoons and complain about my parts after. Run by unskilled, untrained supervisors. One guy who quit gets hired back and walks around doing nothing. High turnover rate, shop is disgusting with weld fumes and dust everywhere. No weld positioners literally put part on a piece of steel for angles. No smoke hogs. Don't have a single clue how to run a company. Not signed of on anything like jib cranes, CWB, and was on my own then they cried about welds. Could be a great place to work but needs a regime change.




The environment is welcoming and nice for a steel manufacturing facility. They take care of people especially when it's warm in the summer. The lunch room has fresh food for purchase at good prices which is nice to have as an option. Like any place, you work there are good and not great points but I like working for CGL, they care, the work is stable, I know what to expect each day, management treats me like a person and the company is growing so there are good opportunities for me.

This company is infamous for high employees turnover rate in almost every department. Almost every employee I met in this company have negative remarks against the management. If you have the right connections, there is no problem for you to make it through. Management has little respect for employees. If you are intending to work in this company to support your family and apply for Canada PR, I strongly do not recommend you to join this company.
