the shifts are 8 to 12 hours long they consist of conflict resolution, house hold responsibilities such as cleaning ,restocking supplies, child care and paperwork, Scheduling appointments, incoming and outgoing phone calls, Administering medication, Petty cash responsibilities, 

This job has taught me how to manage a high risk household, How to care for children (newborn to 18 years of age) from changing diapers to adolescent issues, I have learned how to navigate through a crisis situation when resources are every limited. How to deal with co workers in hostile situations while working in close proximity. 

Management was probably the one aspect of the job I struggled with, There was very little follow up and often not having a supervisor on sight made it difficult to resolve in home issues. 

The hardest part of the job for me was seeing how the children in care are treated so poorly , their voices aren't heard and how little is done to help them as often times they are the ones that need the most help and resources.

I was given an opportunity to gain valuable experience under the direction of highly professionals at the above government services.  I had the opportunity for constant training and progress.  

The hiring freeze in all government arenas has forced me to seek stable employment as I have been hired as a temporary additional and the possibility of the contract not being renewed for all temporary additional workers.  

I will always appreciate the valuable experience I encountered under this environment.

I am a confident Child and Family Support Worker, I apply counselling, AOP and Anti-oppressive practices and display a positive and energetic personality to my clients-home visits.  These traits and skills make the clients feel at ease and comfortable and this makes a big difference in the lives of parents as well as children.  I find this job very rewarding because when Leave theses families, I see on a daily basis the progress of my intervention.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The children and working to help the parents reconcile with their children .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There were times that the emotions were hard to handle when children left .

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is all about maintaining safety for children 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cleaning ,waking kids up ..getting the day schedules for kids organized

As long as I was taking children from their parents my boss was happy. They encouraged me not to get to know parents on a personal level a human level. If I did I was transfered off the case and a new worker in my place. The Calgary family services are satisfied when the entire family is destroyed. Then they will take the child and put them in a foster home to line their wallets with money from the government. It's their incentive to keep kidnapping and destroying children's minds and lives


On a day shift, working with high need youths, monitoring medications, writing logs and reports, cooking meals. 
Hardest part was having youth come home on substance causing issues with the other youths in the house.
Learned a lot about metal health, different street drugs and the effects on the youth.
Enjoyed being there and supporting the youth in their time of need

providing personal care around the clock to each resident. being able to work well with team mates. the hardest part of my job is letting go of the child when its time to discharge the youth in care. the most important thing in my job is I love being able to make a difference in each child or adult we get in care. being there as a support is a big thing in there life's as they might not have gotten 
that from there homes.

Would be a great place to work if Management was inclined to update policies and regulations as well as raising employee standards. Would have been nice to experience trust and/or respect in the workplace and if Management/Leadership was properly trained in people skills and would encourage employee growth and/or well being.

You need to work in your job without all the training, but need the training in order to understand your job better.  It is very difficult while receiving this delegation training which can take a number of months after you first start work.  Salary and benefits are god and job security is good especially for this field.  Responsibilities are high and the stakes are high.

Support worker where i took care of a child on a daily basis 6 hrs maximum placing child into programs which best suited her.
monitoring and mentoring the child. i enjoyed the one to one relationship with the child i worked with and enjoyed helping her. the hardest part was when the child was going through hard times but was always able to help her in that time .
