The City of Kenora is facing significant ethical issues in its management practices, particularly regarding its treatment of unionized employees. The union contract expired over six months ago, and no negotiations have begun, highlighting a disregard for employees' rights.

Disciplinary actions are often taken without following due process, creating fear and uncertainty among employees. Grievance procedures are not properly followed, leaving many issues unresolved and employees feeling neglected. This lack of transparency and accountability fosters distrust and disempowerment.

Employee morale has severely declined, evidenced by high turnover rates and increased absenteeism. Only 10 out of 130 employees attend union meetings, indicating significant disengagement.

Immediate action is needed to honor union contracts, start negotiations, and establish transparent processes to rebuild trust and promote a healthy work environment. Addressing these concerns is both a legal and moral imperative.

What is the best part of working at the company?
None. Benefits. Leaving was the best part. Unprofessional, unorganized remedial staff level.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Moronic Management cares more about public complaints than actual truth. No diligence in investigating complaints. Lack of experience. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. Phoney.
Smiling in your face as they slide a blade into your spine.

Disgusting, I may sue.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
10 Hour days. Messy lines of communication between Upper Management and H.R.

I have worked for them for over 15 years & the working conditions keep getting worse. Management is authoritarian, dies not value employees or employee experience/skills. They are incapable of making plans, only addressing issues in a reactionary manner. Currently looking for employment elsewhere. Feel like I am being forced out of my position even though I am one of the most experienced & highest qualified for my position. 

Micromanagement from senior leadership made it very hard for the organization to be productive and efficient. Employees were too scared of the repercussions of making mistakes while doing work that it was easier to do very little. Middle managers did not make any of their own decisions. They only did as instructed by upper management out of fear of being fired if they did what they thought was right and best for the organization

Very regimented environment. micromanaged. Great co-workers, highest paid employer in the area as it is a remote northern Ontario "city" . Did not know mass exodus of employees i.e. early retirement, employee quit because of toxic environment. Little respect in the workplace from management.

I enjoyed working at the city of kenora. You learn many valuable skills as a student about parks labour, grass cutting, waste management and more. I would definitely recommend for people in highschool looking for a summer job

friendly staff and community!

Positive working environment with proper work/life balance.

nothing!           
I particularly do not feel pressurized.

Welcoming and open to bring changes!

The City of Kenora is an amazing place to work. They offer competitive wages, a positive environment and opportunities for growth. All of the managerial staff are welcoming and trustworthy. Great place for trades workers to gain the stability of work with an amazing benefits package.

Serious lack of training in all aspects. 
No one actually willing to help you


Lots of gossip, back stabbing, fearful, toxic, work environment. Management is unapproachable or understanding. Worst leadership I’ve ever experienced. No moral or pride. Senior employees get easier jobs then new hires. You can find better!
