Unless you know someone, are apart of the boys club or brown nose your way in there, there is no your going to get full time. There are people there that have worked for them for 10+ years and have not got full time.

On top of all that they pay on the lower end for municipal work. There's no benefits package, and they expect you to work the full duration of your contract without any days off. They make us pay Union dues every paycheck but the union doesn't do anything for us. They think they're doing you a huge favour by employing you (yes I understand jobs can be hard to comeby these days) but in reality they would crumble without any of their temp workers.

The equipment is dated, they keep so many old trucks instead of retiring them and getting new ones, they use farming equipment for plowing the sidewalks. Maybe if they stop handing out 150k+ jobs like candy and invest it back into their workforce it wouldn't be so bad. I was there for 5+ years and it has just gone steadily down hill every time I went back.

It's probably really easy to get in there now, since they lose all of their good workers one way or another. 

My suggestion is use it as an avenue for something better, or what I would really suggestion is look elsewhere entirely.

As a lifeguard, I monitored pool-related activities closely throughout shifts and identified any safety issues. Directed swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions and assisted patrons when necessary. Also as a swimming instructor Planned and effectively organized class time for maximum practice, through weekly lesson plans. Taught important swimming and water skills. Ensured the safety of students by maintaining constant watch and enforcing pool rules. Learned the ins and outs of the pool, certain procedures pertaining to closing and opening of the pool. Co-workers were helpful and were effective at communicating. Enforcing rules and dealing with patrons was the hardest part of this job. The most enjoyable part of this job is the community. Management was relaxed and attentive to any situations happening.

A typical day is usually very busy. I learned great management skills, administrative skills, as well as being in an office environment. 
Management was always very helpful, any questions or issues that would arise they were always by my side. Management was very encouraging, professional and inspiring. Co-workers were great, friendly individuals that loved their jobs which made it a fun environment that increased productivity. Once in a while a colleague and I would have to work an hour late to complete necessary tasks before leaving. The most enjoyable part of the job was going in to work and knowing that it is a great place to be. It was a volunteer position.

A typical day at work is just giving I do swimming, thus I have to give lessons and also guard swims most of the time

I have learned how to manage my time, as well as be flexible. With that, I've learned how to communicate well with others making me more confident in my talk. Safety is the main priority when with students and be aware of all things that are happening and most importantly have to be knowledgeable.

Every person there are nice and respectful and the hardest part of the job is giving good detail to kids when teaching. The most enjoyable part of the job is actually trying to teach kids as it can be a challenge and that is very enjoyable.

I loved working with children, and this position allowed me to do that while providing positive direction, motivation and fun learning activities while the children were off from School for the summer. My co-workers were a very understanding bunch, who listened to me and the needs of the children, and strived for excellence on a daily basis. The hardest part of the job was sometimes having to deal with some difficult parents, and expectations, while the most enjoyable was seeing those smiles on the childrens faces everyday!

i would say my outlook on my job with the City of Vaughan is very tastefull. everyday is a new challenge and experience. a typical day at work consist of greeting and helping patrons. i will attend to their needs wether its registering for a program, gym membership, pool plans and transit tickets. The hardest part of my job would be assisting them with a issue they have and tryin my best to go above and beyond to help them be satisfied. The most enjoyable part of my job would involve working wit the other staff here, they are the most sweetest and loving people.

Life at the City of Vaughan is a revolving door. Senior leadership keeps changing - if not the actual people, then the ones who stay change their minds and instructions all the time. It makes working there feel chaotic, unprofessional, and if you're not part of the "in" crowd, you'll get thrown under the bus in a heartbeat.

It's too bad. Some people and departments try really hard to do good work, but senior leadership always manages to ruin everything. There's a huge gap between how great Vaughan could be, versus how it actually is. 

I had a great time here, it was a fun job where I could meet people and learn about the profession of fitness and exercise. I liked this job and the work, my only complaint is that they should have had online group meetings as I missed a mandatory meeting on the weekend due to sleeping in and a long commute, so I lost the job. 



Working exclusively with a Regional Councillor, my work experience cannot be compared to that of a regular City of Vaughan employee.  Over the course of my employment, I developed a great respect for senior management and the staff with whom I have interacted. Their assistance and cooperation ensured that my interaction with the residents of the City of Vaughan provided helpful and positive outcomes, whenever possible, which in turn, reflected well on the office of the council member.

I really enjoyed my summer working for the City of Vaughan's Camp Oradaca. The staff was welcoming, energetic and encouraging, fostering a positive environment for all employees. I enjoyed working with children who challenged my creativity and ability to work on the spot. It was amazing to be able to spend time outside and explore nature through various hikes and camping events.
