Working at CMA was a great experience, the people and the culture of the office and overall company is a very inviting environment.

A typical work day involved a lot of hard but still fulfilling work, with tasks being well choreographed through each department to ensure every customer was satisfied with their shipping services.

As this was my first office job, the learning experience was very intense yet it came easy to me, as the training provided was exceptional and innovative, still nonetheless very simple to understand. I also learned that preparation is the key factor to making sure a project takes off on the right foot. Furthermore, I learned that details are very important. Last but not least, customer satisfaction is a priority when acheiving success in business.

The Management at CMA is very helpful toward the overall goal of the company, they provide an easy working envirnment for all employees by rewarding their efforts and passion for their job. Working with the people at CMA was nothing short of an amazing experience, as they are the biggest reason I was disappointed in having to leave CMA (company lay-offs). The employees and the management made work feel like home, which provided the mind set to feel eased in an Uber-stressed line of business.

Because all departments had to work in a cohesive fashion, the hardest part of the job was prioritizing everyone's needs, as everyone strived for excellence in client service care.

In all the best part of the job was the people, from my first day onto to my last day at CMA, the people remained the core reason you strived for excellence in your field of work. The interactions and relationships you develop determine the path you take in life's rough course, and meeting and working with the people I met at CMA has changed my approach on life and my mind set in terms of career and fulfilment. The overall experience was a pleasant one that I will cherish forever.

Good location in Montreal close to the metro, nice office facilities and good benefits plan.
Extremely dynamic environment, definitely not a place for daydreamers or slackers or sensitive types, you need a very 
robust personality to survive in this place in a commercial role.

Leadership changes every two years with rotating managers from France, their main focus is on looking good in the eyes of Marseille headquarters, the leadership concept is a bit oldfashioned and is more obsessed with putting up a good show for HQ instead of the success of the mission or the performance of the team.

The commercial activity is split between a sales team and a trade team with the trade team always making all decisions, sales has zero power but gets blamed for any shortfall or underperformance.
This created a lot of tension and frustration during my time there.

Very heavy workload with a lot of extra hours which of course are not paid!!!
Awful working environment a lot of stress and low pay, there is some abuse towards the employees 
No respect towards the employees 
Too many lies they can’t sustain
Blaming others is a must
Industry with bad reputation
A lot of politics
No human values
Can hire can fire
Even if you excel in your tasks you will be treated same as a very average employee
Too many internal procedures and ineffective, finger pointing is almost encouraged
If you think you’ll have stability you are mistaken, as you won’t, the only way to keep your job is to work overtime and on the weekends!

Terrible managers, even if their staff members are totally wrong they will defend them anyways not because they are right but because they are ancient!!

Typically you need to maintain a navigational watch and carry out the administrative work regarding the ship or safety jobs. During the period I learned a lot about handling ships and maintaining good work practice regarding the safety of vessel and personnel.

The management is keen on the safety of the crew well as the vessel and its cargo. They supply good food and all the gear need to perform day to day jobs.

The work place culture is well maintained by the experienced Captains. Safety is a priority always. Even the lowest rank on board CMA CGM vessels has that attitude towards safety. 

For me, the hardest part is staying away from my family. Apart from that, I love the rest. the opportunity I got to sail around the world is precious cos every body can't get that opportunity.

Worst company I ever worked for. Management has no clue what they are doing.  Giving titles to Managers that are not professionally trained, and should not be directly managing people what so ever.  There is definitely a 'mean girls' club.  Some of the people are nice, but most I had to watch my back 100% of the time.
There is no real culture at this place.  Everyone is scrambling because Management has no idea how to lead a team to success.  Dormant, boring and lazy atmosphere managed by people who do not understand the Canadian market. 
Would not recommend this company.

CMA CGM is World's # 3 steam ship line and I feel proud to be a this group. I am working with Toronto branch Office in Sales & Marketing department as a Supervisor. We handle pricing for whole Ontario based customers covering Import / Export from all over the World. Every day is a challenge to meet Region's budget / Vessel allocation. We have to manage customers/ trade and Management requirements by prioritising the task. Management is very supportive and hear my suggestions/ implement and encourage. We work in very fast paced environment and co-workers are very supportive.  I enjoy my job as you learn very day.

After years of working with this company, I believe that they encourage hard work ethics and are fair for compensating these efforts.  The hardest part of this job was having to train people from another country to take the positions of the people who worked under me for numerous years.  Through a process of elimination I was able to assist in the decision with the management.  The most enjoyable part of this job was the people I worked with and the easy going atmosphere that our dept created.

It's one of the few companies where you can advance relatively fast if you can prove yourself.
Your experience may vary, depending on the ships crew and culture.
The salary of €3400 for a 3rd officer on the bridge is decent, but that lvl of salary is mostly favorable for ppl that live in India, China and the Philippines.
The real money comes when you get to the rank of Chief Officer.

P.S.
If you're considering a maritime career I'd advise you to aim for the Engine Room cause the engineers almost always have Sundays off, unlike the deck crew that work every day.

- Long oVer time (work 12 hours but not OT benefit) 
- stressfull (need to push for unreasonable fulfilment. 
 ex. asking for PE cargo to fill the ship go to Africa, yea, how can i ask every canadain moving to Africa to live there. 
- Pay compare other company is not too cheap, but no very good either
-the management is worst part, the GM change every two year who appointed from France.
     - which their work focus is totally change every two years.
