CNRL Horizon

The only reason anyone works at Horizon is because times are tough and we have to put food on the table. This company does not care one bit about the people who work at this facility. The camp conditions are the absolute worst. Its not bad if you work directly for CNRL because you get to stay at the nice camp. As a contractor you have to stay in the dungeon where you share a shower and toilet with some of the dirtiest people on the planet. Worst camp I have ever stayed in. I would rather stay in a tent, shower using a garden hose, cook beans over a fire and take a dump in a hole and burry it. 

They are so cheap that they hire staff at a discount price and us contractors have to listen to these retards.

A typical day at work begins with alarm clock set for 4am - bus picks us up at 4:45am it takes us 45-60 minutes to get to our work site. I work 10 hour days Monday thru Thursday with a working lunch. 

I have learned so much about the oil sands here in Fort MacMurray, how it is mined & processed

The management here at CNRL are the greatest my co-workers are Fire Fighters whom do a great job protecting us here on site, i work with 45 men who treat me with so much respect.

The hardest part of my job is the early morning rise! Other than that I love it!

The most enjoyable part of my job is the group of people I work with everyday.

CNRL is the most forward thinking company I have worked with.  The phased construction and modular approach to the plant additions have proven highly effective.
Daily life is spent planning/procuring materials for projects and specifically for Turnaround activities.  
Hardest part of the job is to be away from Home and Family, but we are most effective on site supporting our groups.
Best part of the job is the satisfaction after a successful outage.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Embracing the CNRL Safety Culture at the start of every shift (days or nights), then continuously following up, all throughout the shift.

Previously employed at the Pembina RFS II site, CNRL Horizon, & the Strathcona Refinery.  Leadhand position was earned at Horizon site. Work experience includes:
•	Interpreting drawings
•	Job Planning
•	Terminating cabinets, devices, panels and testing 
•	Some commissioning devices, PLC cabinets, & troubleshooting @ RFS 1
•	Installing & troubleshooting EHT controllers & marshalling junction boxes

Was hired on as a FT administrator for CNRL, I was there 9 weeks and still after 9 weeks, not a single individual would converse with me or have small talk. They all had their little groups and I was excluded from all. The team I was with were all mostly "new Canadians" and were hired on from their country for the projects at that time. I didn't enjoy my time there at all.

Fast pace job with a lot of challenges, all crafts working together to complete the job.
Management was one of the most knowledgeable that I have ever had the privilege to work with.
Everyone worked very hard and safely
The team that was put together for this job made working there enjoyable, comfortable and a very good working environment.

I think as a whole it is an excellent site to work at and gain experience. If you are starting your career this is where you want to be, if you are farther along in your career(as a power engineer) you may either look for a place closer to home or another location that pays more if you are interested in FIFO.

spending 20 days in a camp and getting flights, food, cable, wifi paid for was amazing. I had great roll models here and an amazing system in place. The routes you can take in this company are amazing, no matter what youre interested in, culinary, fitness, retail managent the possibilities are actually endless.
