What is the best part of working at the company?
The pay is really good, you will make some real income

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They send you out to deal with jobs that you have no idea on how to do them as a junior employee.
The training time is not enough for you to feel confident and they want you to learn while working and figure it out by your self.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a very toxic work environment, the company is against the employees and union and try to take as much as they can from the workers.
Everyone complains about the company and they hate to be working for CPKC but they stay because of the home high pay.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You never know what kind of day you will have, it will always be different.
You have no control over anything, not even when you want to take time off, if you are even entitled to take some time off. They own you, your time, your life and your freedom.

Really it’s not that bad of a place to work. You just have to understand that you’ll never have a weekend off for the first 20 years of your career unless you consider night shift with a Sunday Monday off a weekend which you should be able to get after 7 years. They will tell you that the seniority list moves when you get interviewed but don’t lie to yourself. People do retire but their jobs don’t make it up on the job board because they probably have a weekend off on a day shift.  Training is non existent except for the extremely basic training  that you get in Winnipeg which really won’t apply to anything that is in the fleet. On the plus side it’s sometimes fun to work on 50+year old equipment. You get to feel, what it would be like, being a farm hand from the 1960’s. You look at pictures from back in the day thinking to yourself, how are you covered head to toe in oil. Then you work on 50 year old equipment, right, that’s how. 

The bulk of my day revolves around project management and collaborative efforts. Meetings with team members are frequent, fostering open communication and strategic planning. These interactions serve not only to discuss ongoing projects but also to brainstorm innovative ideas and troubleshoot any challenges that may arise.

A significant portion of my time is allocated to focused, individual work. This involves analyzing data, creating reports, and delving into the intricacies of various projects. The office environment provides the necessary resources and a conducive atmosphere for concentrated efforts, allowing me to delve deep into complex tasks.

They care about you as an owner operator. The money is good . They have tire purchase program with discount

I didn't see anything stressful while I was driving for that company. Just be your lane and everything would be fine

It's as normal as it is in any transportation company

Just like any city driving job. Some few highway runs. They even rotate on the highway runs

Really awesome pay from the start, benefits (most of them) start from day 1 in training, safety preaching but in reality many doesnt follow up on that perspective to be more efficient and puts the rest of the team on the spot when trying to be by the book cause its slower that way. The reality does not represent what they say about safety but i think maybee it's more due to the mentality and urges to run things faster on the field so we could say that head office and on the field workers are not on the same page.

Remembering yard locations for few days feel stressful

CNTL seems to have a mix of experiences, but many employees appreciate the pay and benefits, the inclusive work environment, and the sense of appreciation they feel. Some workers highlight the stability of the trucking industry and the advanced technology used in CNTL trucks, which improves efficiency. Others enjoy the learning opportunities and the support for owner-operators, including programs like discounted tire purchases

Incompetence on all levels. No one seems to care or put any pride in their work. All the departments work against eachother to screw eachother over. No training. Pay is lower than industry standard for mechanics. The union is just as frustrating as the management. This company attracts bottom feeders. 2/10 would not reccomend

Expect to work 12 hours , five days a week,  job is based strictly on senority, local management are only interested in their bonus check, and not the health or well being of contractors. New hires can not expect a weekend off for 10+ years. Union ( Unifor ) is a joke.  Avoid this company!!

If you're a trades person out of work, looking to make a steady paycheque in a new field - don't come here. All day long you'll be missing your trade, dreaming for this all to end.
If you're young and into railroading - this is for you. Come and stay, if you've never done anything else seriously.
