Calendar Club

Work entails cashier, start and end of day cash out, greeting and helping customers, receiving and merchandizing stock, getting some loyalty sign ups and some cross selling at the till.  You may be asked to help with store set up and tear down.  No special expertise about the products is required and you will learn on the job.  

Beginning of the season can be slow with a lot of down time and later in the season is busy.  There was no expectation of pointless "busy work" during slow times as long as stock was displayed and front faced, clean and tidy, you just have to be ready to greet the next customer.  Busy times were fast paced and engaging.

The store was well managed.  I liked my coworkers and scheduling was fair and reasonable and posted well in advance.  I think everyone felt appreciated and if you work hard it is acknowledged and rewarded.  Manager was approachable, supportive and friendly.  Expectations were made clear.  

I enjoyed working there and will apply again next year if circumstances allow it.



A typical day at work included unloading trucks and loading trucks, palletizing equipment and getting it ready for shipment (on the fixture side). On the product side a day of work included stocking shelves, scanning product, labelling product, packaging and shipment of product. Required strength due to heavy repetitive lifting. Co-workers were great and helpful people, and management was fairly kind as well. Best part of the job was achieving a hard days work with good people. Half of the time I couldn't tell if I was having fun or working (Due to it being a perfect mixture of both)
Only complaint is the low pay. Basic min. wage. for a multi million dollar company that has only a small handful of workers, it could definitely improve the pay. But they rely on older retired folk and young teens so that's how they get away with such cheap pay. 
Overall, a really good job if you are in a pinch and need work.

Calendar club was a good place at first until i learned how it was run. Nearly every paycheck i received, i would have to call up and explain what i had really worked due to the lack of communication between the scheduling manager and the on site manager. Not only that, but during my employ, there was a time where i was being severely harassed and told that to one of my managers, their solution, talk to the manager of the employee from the store whom was harassing me, causing the whole situation to get worse, then instead of discussing the situation with me, giving me a 12 hour notice of termination. 
Overall, if you are interested in being an associate for the Kitchener/ Waterloo Calendar club, be sure you can handle management that is unfit.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The team and ownership they are so nice and accommodating as long as it is reciprocated.  LOVE working there. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing really, in the beginning it was hard doing the set up but again given my age this was understandable.  But they were very understanding and helped me threw and I loved that about the community.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Awesome from management to staff they are great to work for and we are always having fun.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Selling calendars, setting up, directing customers to the right area, answer questions if we have an item or not.

Setting up and taking down the store are a lot of hard work, especially for the lay person who isn't used to physical labour. The pay isn't great at all and the employee bonus is hardly worth it. The manager makes a bonus based on sales, but the employees work as hard or harder at selling as the manager does and gets no sales-based bonus at all.
The products are great. Getting to know them all is a lot of fun. I would highly suggest allowing employees to sit during slow times. All three of our employees had issues with lower limbs which made standing for an 8 hour shift extremely difficult and no chair or stool was provided.

worked for this company two seasons in a row, it sucks it is seasonal, because it's actually a really neat job. Managers were great, head office was alright other than they would tell us we were getting a product that was really popular, then we wouldn't and customers would get really upset about it. but really understanding, and fun place to work. flexible hours because it was seasonal.

I worked at Calendar Club for 1 season years back and I absolutely loved it. My manager was great with schedules and completely accommodating in any way she could be. It was ultimately a stress free job until Christmas and boxing day hit. We had some sales targets but I never felt like my boss was breathing down my neck or anything. 

 My only issue is that it's a seasonal job (I would work at Calendar club forever if I could!) and because of that, there's little room for advancement. However it was great to work there full time and I'm sure it would be a fun 2nd job as well during the holiday season.

A typical day at the Calendar club includes customer service, cashing customers out, cleaning up, stocking shelves, and following all closing procedures. The closing procedures requires counting the till, submitting the information, and bringing the deposit to the bank. The hardest part about this job is that I am very outgoing and constantly want to make conversation with each and every costumer even if there is no time. The most enjoyable part about this job is  being able to be on my feet doing hands on activities and interact with the public rather than being in an office.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I’m the manager. I have trained many staff in my 21 years of service. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Doing double shifts when staff do not come in

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fast paced always challenging. Always something to do. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Taking care of customers. This company is client friendly and you need to be knowledgeable about your products

This has been the absolute worst place to work for the past two years. Constant abuse from management, you have to pay losses from till out of pocket?? Even though multiple people have access to the till without a log in. There's no time in / time out so hours tend to be shorted. It's ab absolute head ache for what? No benefits, no encouragement and daily headaches. Better off to find another company to work for.
