Try not to look to hard into why you won’t get anywhere working countless years of your life here at Co-op. Their system is built like a n*zi regiment, do this or be written up. They implement the worst of rules and regulations, standards and policies which they don’t follow themselves. For such a competitive market the wages and work load per person definitely does not reflect this competitiveness. Very underpaid staff who are over worked and then asked to work more when you show ambitions to get ahead.  Make sure you are part of their cliche circle otherwise they will slam you down, wasting all of your time and efforts. Managers here have no clue what they are doing 90% of the time. Do yourself a favour and work elsewhere if you must work food retail, the pay is the lowest in the industry here and the expectations are through the roof. Head office gets and give themselves raises when on store level you get 1% over 5 years! Policies and procedures made by head office are made up just for the sake of keeping their jobs. They do not think about the staff who have to initiate them on store level. The culture was good when they believed in the four pillars coop was built on, now it’s just a slave driving company who will never tell you good job. Managers are more concerned with staff wearing a coat on the floor or having a water/ coffee even in non food prep areas.. yet they always are doing so themselves. I used to enjoy working here, times have definitely not been kind to this company and its staff. 

Depending on the department you’re busy or bored. Lots of things you can find/figure out to do but training seems to be very minimal and more so by word of coworkers. Management can be really laid back so long that you do what is asked of you which is usually very simple tasks. Sometimes however, managers will be manipulative of your openness and use your words against you as punishment. Management is typically either laid back or hard to deal with as a summary. The culture depends on who you are, how big your centre is and the people you meet. Typically, smaller stores are very dramatic. Hardest part about the job would definitely be getting management to teach you things. Training feels impossible to find and usually takes lots of nagging to get anything which makes it feel like you’re very stuck where you are. I enjoy being able to work mostly alone with a fairly low stress environment. Depending on coworkers and management of course

Most of the time you just come in and do what the regular shift duties are. Nothing too crazy sometimes you get to go on an adventure and find something in the freezer that you didn't know existed until a customer told you it did. My direct manager for my store didn't really didn't help us much but she was eventually replaced and it's been pretty good after that. Decent environment to work in and being able to work directly next to your supervisor helps form a link from worker to upper management. There's a healthy amount of task switching and depending on your shift you could be doing a bunch of tasks instead of doing the same mindless activity for 8 hours. All around cool people but it really depends on which store you're at. For minimum wage i'd say you are not overworked and at the end of your shift you aren't mentally and physically exhausted (unless you get 2 full pallets of frozen dough to unload into the freezer which hasn't been organized since the inception of time)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The supervisors and mostly the MANAGERS! 
They didn’t care about the staff or the quality of work. They just wanted to get done.  Didn’t matter what it looked like. 
They said customer service is most important but it was just talk!! 
They really didn’t care what the customers cared about or what they said!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful.  Back stabbing and no one cared about what they were doing.  And you would get in trouble if you worked hard.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Scarred I might be a minute late
Scarred I might have done something wrong my previous shift, or in the past few weeks. 

Overwhelmed by the amount of work to be done, when working alone for the shift. 
The supervisor and manager rarely helped you out.

The first few days were okay, but I do not recommend working here. I'm writing this review because I feel horrible for anyone who goes through what I did. Honestly, they need a new motto because one of the mantras is 'caring', however, I did not feel cared about at all. The managers will push you past your limits and compare you to other workers. I worked there for less than 6 months and cried a lot because of how I was being made to feel. The manager compared me to other workers and dismissed my concerns about my physical well being. Co-workers rarely talked to me unless necessary and laughed at me on my first day for being too slow instead of instructing me immediately.

A typical day at work with Coop Wine Spirits & Beer is everything you make it. Keeping busy with restocking product, breaking down displays and making new ones for upcoming ads. Providing quality customer service based on your knowledge of product lines. Lifting heavy boxes and putting shipments away. Standing for long periods of time. 
Ongoing training is provided through the company.
Management is ok it changes  periodically.
Like most jobs you the good, the bad and the ugly. Go with the flow.
The hardest part of the job is the heavy lifting when receiving the orders and putting it away. 
The clients are the best part of the job.

As a part-time employee of 8 years, the position pays well and the team I worked with felt like family. The organization does a good job scheduling events and ensuring flexibility for employees. However, this is all dependant on your management team, if you get poor management it can be a stressful situation. 

It is a pure 100 percent co-op idea, you want to advance you eat, sleep work , talk co-op. You have to be a lifer and prove it from day one, worship everything co-op is and does, to move up. and if you don't the manager will show in how you are treated. If the head office feels the sales are not high enough they will short hour the department and make staff do almost double work in the same time frame. very stressful to carry the workload they give you and if your not co-op enough you will feel it from management.

Working at the Deli can catch new people off guard but you start getting the hang of things as time goes on. I will say that it is a super fast paced enviroment and requires alot of physical, and even mental strength. As a youth, this job is quite harsh. There is a lack of other young workers in the Deli department which makes me believe I got this job by luck. It is a difficult job that doesn't really pay well for the effort you put in. Management is quite bossy and pushy which makes it hard to be excited to work.

Co workers are good and very helpful

Strict rules about talking with your co workers and lack of coordination and communication issues

The company have rules to treat every one equal

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Angry customers complaining about staff availability and some complaining about high prices and some nice customers being nice and kind.
