Calgary Exhibition and Stampede

A typical day for me was arriving at work and setting up my booth for the day and awaiting for potential buyers. I also learned alot about customers where abouts. Example would be where they were from and what they liked about our city and how they were enjoying our stampede, some of which who had never been to our stampede before. The hardest part of my job was getting customers interested in our products, which were boots, pack backs, t-shirts, wallets, and gun holsters. Those one's were the hardest to sell lol. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was the staff that i was working with. They really made me feel like i was a somebody and to me that is important, it made me want to be there everyday and i felt good about myself. I learned about different types of sales pitches, what to say and when to say it properly, and i also learned to have confidence in myself as well as the product i was selling.

Calgary Stampede is a non-profit organization that has very high standards which allow all to work freely.

Day to day operations has a multitude of aspects which is heavily public directed. Work day is a busy one dealing with many organizations, companies an internal departments.

Management is varied from very good to at times overbearing. There is a need for all to be very open, direct an to the point as this organization benifits the citizens of Calgary.

Most enjoyable part of this organization is the upfront dealings with the public. The Exhibition & Stampede allows all to showcase thier particular skill with the public bringing credit to all that work here.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Team working together to put on and maintain an important institution for the city and the province

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Hard deadlines that if missed create unforeseen issues

Cohesive culture and a spirit of service

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every day brings different projects. Fast moving environment

Getting to witness the cowboy mafia first hand 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Unreasonable, impossible work goals

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very cult like and cliquey. Top heavy management. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to please every layer of management.

Assist the public with directions, information and all aspects of public relations.  Communicate facility regulations in a tactful and diplomatic manner.  Inform maintenance of any safety issues while guarding the area to prevent injury.

Co-workers were always helpful and team players.

The hardest part of my job was dealing with difficult patrons.

The most enjoyable part of my job was meeting new people from all over the world.

The Calgary Stampede is an icon in the city and boasts a huge number of long-term employees. The work can be hard but the teamwork and the family feel is worth it on those heavy days. The Stampede is a truly great place to work because it's like a city within a city. There' so much to do and see that you will be actively engaged for years.

Stressful to fit in the political environment.  If you are good at manipulating that sort of environment, then the rest is not too bad.  Middle management are competitive to find upper management positions sometimes creating a stressful environment for workers.

Stampede Time is the hardest and most fun time of the year. The company is great to work for and the people are extremely culture based. Would definitely recommend this place to work to other people.

I gained a very broad and diverse array of skills working over ten plus years on the grounds. Always something new to do. Sad to leave, would recommend.

Working for the Calgary Stampede has been a wonderful experience, from the kind people I've met to the amazing functions I've gotten to be a part of. An amazing introduction into the service industry and a stellar example of a good days work
