Calgary Herald

As publisher, I would hold meetings first with advertising staff and later with editorial staff to get an idea about their appointments. I would also give my input ad sales people and story ideas to reporters. I was also in charge of writing editorials.

The hardest part of the job was to ensure that the company had enough revenue every month to pay staff and cover other expenses.
The weekly newspaper business is very compettive and had to work hard to meet commitments.

Enjoyed being a publisher of a medium size town and the respect that was given to the position.

The Calgary Herald/Sun has a great team of journalists who produce  quality multimedia journalism everyday. They are committed to the people of Calgary, and are excellent educators to new journalists. The management is pleasant and I got along well with everyone. It is intense and fast-paced, and you need to have a reliable vehicle to work as a multimedia journalist.

It is what it sounds like, mindless money. Sort then deliver flyers to certain adresses. You don't deal with people unless a recipient of the flyer talks to you. Good exercise. Gets very repeditive

No two days are ever the same and new employees will find the challenge of creating solutions for clients to be extremely fun!

I used to love working at the Calgary Herald but with many of the managers being of a similar age as myself, there were no opportunities for advancement unless you were one of the protected ones in the clique.

A day delivering flyers was like this; I worked alone. I was able to hand out the paper in the morning so that I still had the day to do what was needed of me.  the hardest part was carrying the papers.

Best ever place to work. Recommend this to anyone very organized clean professional environment. Well trained staff and provides training too. I recommend this place to anyone.

I like working here. The end is coming soon, so that is the hard part. I am glad to have met the other people working here, and relationships will continue.
