What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff are very supportive and are just a great group of people to be around. Also you get to do great activities like power tubing while looking after children

The kids can get difficult at times and if you are late for something

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Energetic and just has a great vibe and it is by a lake and has a bunch of activities and spaces to sleep and do things.Also, it is a Christian camp but allows anyone to come work you do not have to be a Christian 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sign kids in for day camp. Teach children activities planned for the day, eat food, and clean the room when the children leave. Have a day camp meeting during dinner and go to the evening fireside which is basically a worship session and get involved with overnight activities

Camp Chestermere is a Christian faith based summer camp, with school year camps and facility hosting that runs throughout the year. The Leadership staff here has been unmatched to any job I have ever worked. This place excels at creating and empowering leaders, encouraging a positive workplace, collaboration, and the inclusion of all people. I found the hardest part of the job is learning to work with kids who may be uncooperative or may have a disabilities, but the people here make it easy always and energize you. The most enjoyable part of the job is the people, I will never find a staff like this anywhere else!

The current camp director and assistant director are an amazing and supportive team.  Regardless of your background or experience, this camp is a very enjoyable summer position. Food and housing are included. Plenty to do during downtime. Kids can be a handful, but the other staff help to alleviate this stress. God is alive and well at this Summer camp. Very Ad Hoc management style, but that's the nature of summer camp. The weekly schedule is very accommodating. The only con is the wage for junior and senior counselors, but with food, housing, entertainment, and lifelong connections, it's absolutely worth it.

It was a Christian camp, therefore the environment consisted of respect all around. Typically we are assigned a cabin with one other person of the same gender to lead and look after the kids in the cabin throughout the week. With the kids we would do devotions and activities with them as well as wide games with other groups. Our main tasks was to make sure kids did the activities to the best of their abilities, provide safety and mentorship.

A typical day at work included dealing with kids, cleaning messes, playing music, running activities. I learned how to deal with tough people, the importance of authentic interest in your job and how to lead large groups. I worked with wonderful people in a wonderful setting. The hardest part was finding a way to pay through summer with little to no money, however, the job itself made up for it by being a fantastic job. The most enjoyable part was I was able to play music every day and music is my passion.

A typical work day at camp involves very little sleep and a lot of responsibility but it is the most rewarding job. You learn to pace yourself and to reach out for others when you are unsure of what to do or if things become to much to handle. You are able to interact with kids of all ages giving them the most memorable week of their lives. The co workers are amazing and  the staff you work with become life long friends. You get a sense of belonging and a sense of family with the staff team.

I had the opportunity to work with many people from many different walks of life that gave me experiences that were next to none. Camp chestermere is fantastic because of it's worker chemistry. Prior to becoming a camp counsellor every employe must complete a week long staff training session, throughout this week you bond with other workers and learn the essentials of how to work with kids throughout the summer.

This organization once had the trust and respect of its community but things have changed. Please be cautious when applying to work here. The leadership of this organization have made and continue to make bad decisions, leading to burnout, resignations, and firings like I have never seen before this previous and current season. They have shown their willingness to take advantage of passionated, hard-working people. This camp is no longer the wonderful place it used to be.

I myself have been going to Camp Chestermere since I was 12, it's a super welcoming environment, and the management is absolutely amazing. It is a christian camp so if you're not christian you may not likely get the job. The hardest part of the job was dealing with rambunctious kids all day with only a few breaks throughout the day. You do always have a co worker with your group of kids, and you get dinners, lunch and breakfast off.

Camp Chestermere relies on young adults (as most camps do) to fill positions of Camp Counsellors and Work Crew.  These positions are essentially volunteer positions although the camp offers stipends to its summer workers and opportunities for scholarships.  It's a fun place to work and interact with other young adults while gaining work experience for future endeavors.
