I would not recommend this company to locals or newcomers alike. They lack proper documentation and structured training resources for new hires, instead relying on brief, verbal instructions over the first few days. This approach creates unrealistic expectations for new employees to immediately perform at a high standard. Additionally, the management style tends to be unwelcoming and biased, and some leaders may even feel threatened by junior staff who exhibit initiative, leading to unprofessional backchanneling. The work environment is not inclusive, and decisions—particularly in HR—seem influenced more by personal relationships than objective considerations. Moreover, the company's culture appears dismissive of employees who use public transportation, with a bias toward those who drive. Given these factors, I would caution anyone against joining due to the toxic culture and lack of support for personal and professional growth

Highly motivated, well educated management - most of them with long experience in industry, mostly focused on "old values" and rarely excepting progressive ideas.  Very good place to learn large enterprise culture and psychology, and overall good core business  practices.
Competition among employees is overstated and indiscriminate.  Place where you don't want to share any aspects of your personal life or weaknesses, not even smallest information.  Watch your back!
On the other side management is very keen to often support well planed social activities using vast variety of means available to this over hundred years old company.  They will surprise you!  I have to give them thumbs up for this, as it is in good taste and quite rare around here.
Company "staff sales" are well organized and you will be very happy with pricing and variety.
This was all 4 years a go and I am unsure if it still applies, as fishing business is in steady slow decline and pron to dramatic changes.

I worked at Canadian Fishing Company for only the one year.
But it was a solid busy 3 months.
I wished and wanted to go back to work more there mainly because of how encouraging the work place is.
The staff work hard, the shifts change and keep the workers busy but also less stressed from been locked into doing one position for months.
I actually enjoyed the shift changing and made many new friends in that process.
I had a minor strain that occurred under my own actions.
But the staff were generous enough to allow me to be checked upon by the company physician.
My review is that I learned a few things about the workplace and cleaning and processing canned fish.
I do hope that the company will be calling me for work there.
As it maybe noisy because of the machines and non stop fork lifts driving around, even with all that, I still enjoyed the busy work place.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Pay is a bit higher than  minimum  pay. YOU GET to work by the ocean. You get a discount on their products which is fish.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
KEEPING up with the production line.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A BIG WAREHOUSE WHERE IS COLD,NOISEY,STINK,DARK.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
LOTS OF PRESSURE AND HEAVY WORK LOADS.

We usually begin fishing before daylight,What Learn from that is get proper sleep! My Skipper is a great guy to work for,and makes working in a small area,with four other people,safe and enjoyable.
The Ocean is my workplace.
The hardest part of my job is weather, you don’t mess with Nature!
There is nothing else more enjoyable than seeing fish hitting your net and closing up and see jumpers inside with lots of bubbles.
Having a good crew!

I enjoyed my experience with Canfisco. There's alot to learn and everyday can be a challenge if you apply yourself. The management treats this position with the utmost respect and does their best to keep you happy. You get your own office, your own shop, & they supply the tools. 

A typical day at work would be 10 guys getting together to reach one set goal.  I have learned that you need to trust your partners to do a great job.  My co-workers are fun hard working men.  The most enjoyable part of the day is break time, where we can all just talk or joke about what has happened during that work day.

Standing there cleaning fish, 
the stations are a bit short and kind of hurts my back that's the only down fall other then that every things good.
I've learn how to preserve fish and clean it and how to pack it to be sent off to another company. 
management is good i have no complaints.

I worked there for half year as a technical manager , I realized Unprofessional management, using outdated management system , no proper recording , no proper history . They do not know how to train new employees . Seems they are frozen in time and space. 

have been there for quite some time, but working hours and things are kinda starting to dissipate.
sometimes it is long hours, or it use to be long hours and very steady work during the summer, but now it is just turning into no work at all.
