Canadian Forest Products - Canfor

Most of the lumber industry is struggling a bit and canfor is no exception, so my location isnt running as of writing this.

For anyone looking to start at canfor elsewhere or in the future, they do like to start you on graveyards and you have to get on to production and/or bid on things to move to other jobs within the company so you get to kinda try things out but it can be slow since its senority based, struggle through the graveyards and you'll get your senority up pretty quickly since clean up has a very high turn over

I will say depending on the shift some of the supervisors fostered a very old fashioned crew with some very old school thinking so you kinda get what you get, they dont like to lose long timers so disagreements mostly get swept under the rug including physical altercations, I witnessed a few and heard of other issues so be prepared.

Similarly training is short and you have to pick things up quickly.
Write anything down of note and date it to cover yourself, management doesnt like to fix things until someone gets hurt
It may annoy management but report report report! They say safety first at every meeting but dont like to enforce it due to budget constraints

Worklife Quality definitely depends solely on your supervisor and getting along with your crew, but it is often called the rumor mill for a reason so tred carefully as they will play favorites as much as they can and if you get on someones bad side it'll get noticed, just work hard and do your job try to ignore the drama because theres a lot of it.

Some really good opportunities here if you learn to deal with the work culture each mill has and are willing to try some jobs out, jump on any training opportunity you have, remember to ask questions and be on the ball

Planning, Pre Staged Parts, always been an issue. 
Housekeeping always an issue, limited Personnel for Sweeping, Garbage Can Removals, job site clean ups. Contractors do a Great Job.

Curtailment, Contracts, Plant Shutdowns had a negative impact on plant personnel

10 Hour Days, worked with Canfor Team and Contractors for Various multi plant shutdowns

They have good capacity building programs for all employees. They uphold respect and  dignity for everyone and listens to union demands for employees

Some foremen are too bossy obsessed with power

Very excellent and they have developed great safety culture “safety starts with you” slogan

Very exciting and enjoyable . Am confident and comfortable working with anyone in the company

Canfor gave me an immediate employment opportunity when many companies would not , for reasons of their own . At the same time I had to make very significant sacrifices in my life to take the job offered , like selling my house , beautiful property & moving to a new town 800 km. distant . Of course this was my choice .

It was a mixed bag depending on where you were in the mill and the culture became too complacent and lazy.

I started in clean up and over a few months I had the opportunity to feed planer lifthoist and ended up winning a bid for the banner operator position.
The only reason I resigned was because I needed to be closer to family.
I enjoyed working for Canfor and would definitely go back another opportunity comes my way.

Hired me at Christmas and they are laying me off June 1st …. And they are still hiring people just to lay them off in June … horrible management and they don’t care about peoples lives. They are setting us up to fail. Get a job out of the wood industry cause it’s not stable enough 

 Job is the best company is the best all ikile is do my job and get my check  and focus on my duties  and make my company happy  and I don’t feel this is hard job job is always easy  cause this job is can Fred my family
