I, personally, really enjoyed my experience with this company. I worked there from 2011 to 2013. I learned a lot about working with cash and money, and was first in line to become a supervisor before I left the workplace. Everyone on site was always friendly, but not exceptionally productive. I found that only certain people really "cared" to do their job correctly, while most others viewed it as a time to joke around and be unprofessional. Management was alright.  A lot of issues that needed to be taken care of were not necessarily dealt with correctly during my time there. For example, the entire time I worked with the company, I worked with a broken sink. Broken promises followed, due to us being told every few months that it would be repaired. It was not. Even when I left. Maintenance was horrible. The workers in the building are supposed to do routine checkups of the workplaces as well as come when called to observe a problem. Only one staff member, of at least 5 would show up and answer to the calls of broken pipes/energy circuits being out/broken toilets and stairs etc. The cleanliness of the place could be rancid at times, due to uncooperativeness and laziness. Nights would go without floors being mopped, milkshake cups being put away, tables/spills being cleaned etc. However, I sound like I am nagging the company. It is a good place to work for, and there are tons of friendly faces. However, on a professional level and a mature level, I wouldn't rank this company exceptionally high.

Started off making less than half what similar positions in the Toronto, Ottawa, and other key markets earn. Pay raises were tied to 1% per year if approved. Made things tougher each year.

You can't tell the difference between the employees and managers that are genuinely skilled, trained and experienced and which ones are friends or relatives of ownership.

Company culture is largely a toxic mix of "just look busy" and "don't do anything unless approved". Every new employee and manager should be trained about what a double-bind is so that there are fewer nervous breakdowns by employees.

Managers, multiple male and female, that rub peoples backs, kiss their heads and otherwise engage in unprofessional conduct that is dismissed. 

Friends and relatives of ownership, employed at various locations, are off limits for constructive criticism or reporting. HR works for the company only, not for employees. Don't mention when they call you racially insensitive names. Don't mention when they flip out and do not accept responsibility for their mistakes. Don't mention when they disappear for days. Don't mention the double standard for mental health days between managers and non-managers.

At Marriott, expect to be overworked and underappreciated with upper management. There's no real appreciation for efforts and no ceiling of expectation on their end. There's also no real communication, so Front office manager and Assistant FOM will secretly watch and have others watch you, but not talk you direcly for any issue - this is highly problematic and untrustworthy, as you can imagine - There's a lot of empty pretense and hollow disingenuousness by upper management. 

In addition, their symstems are out of date by about 3 decades. Worst in the industry that I have encountered.  This place will just run you into the ground. A lot of employees said to me, "Why would you want to work here? [Especially compared to better previous positions].  Now I know what they meant. Overall, a surprisingly 
oppressive environment and a disappointment in general.  

A typical work day involves working with operations and a large team all working towards the same goal. 
Management always have an open door and support the work place culture which always seeks to find better ways of doing things yet accomplishing the key objectives. 
Management demonstrates to it's employees how it benchmark's it's compensation elements. 
In addition to a benefit package , the company has a lot of great corporate events that are not only open to the employees but also all of their family members including grandchildren.  They host at least 3 significant large events each year ( Christmas Dinner Event, Childrens Christmas , Family Picnic ) but they also host annual recognition days like free waterpark days, free BBQ lunch, free afternoon treats and those are only a few. 
The culture includes a team support for the community - food banks , blood donation and cancer runs.  

They are constantly hiring. It’s a revolving door because they treat people like garbage. You will not be paid for the value of work you do. You are expendable and they lie about your job security. What does that mean? They hire people in august for a full time position that they know they will be laying-off in September. They promise benefits for full time employees, not telling them it won’t be effective until after 6 months (when the employee will be laid off).
My first day as supervisor, I was told just offer jobs to anyone who shows up. Why because they don’t care who gets a job there, they aren’t going to be working there long and they aren’t going to treat them well anyway. What does that say for the quality of your co-workers? What does that say for morale? 
This is not a place for long term employment, or self esteem, enjoying your job, liking your co-workers or quality of life. 

I have worked for this company on and off for about 6 years. The staff that  came from the famous and opened luckys (the jamesons) are fun to work with at times. However some staff have free range and are always defended over others. Lacking some discipline. The management are very understanding and great to work. With the exemption of complaining about mornings VS nights attitude. Management should really shut it down and make out a point how business is. this is located at Fallsview casino. Night shifts have shows and days get hit Saturday and Sunday days. 
The turn over is gonna start becoming an issue if staff are not disciplined. It can be a toxic environment. Also management shouldn't be shooting down someone who actually cares about the restaurant. If someone sees something they should say something.
If they change all of this, this place will be an easy 5*

A typical day as a payroll administrator involves processing payroll, checking timesheet, and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. I’ve learned a great deal about payroll systems, compliance, and the importance of accuracy and organization. Management is approachable and always willing to provide guidance. The workplace culture is supportive, professional, and team-driven, which makes the fast-paced environment enjoyable. The hardest part of the job is managing deadlines, but it’s also rewarding because it strengthens problem-solving and time-management skills. The most enjoyable part is the satisfaction of seeing a job well done and knowing that employees are taken care of. Overall, it’s a great place to build skills, gain experience, and grow professionally.

While I’m grateful to be in a salaried position, the compensation doesn’t reflect the level of work or passion that’s expected on a daily basis. There’s a constant push to grow and improve, but it often feels one-sided—without the support or recognition needed to feel truly valued. It truly feels like a very greedy corporate position. Over time, it’s been hard to stay motivated when it feels like purpose and progress aren’t met with the same energy from the other side.

The past 8 months have been nothing short of amazing at both Marriott on the Falls and Marriott Fallsview Resort & Spa as a part of Canadian Niagara Hotels Group. I started as a Human Resources Co-Op Student and was extended the offer to work as a Part-Time HR Administrator while I was in school. During my time Management was extremely supportive as they helped me learn the different facets of Human Resources. This opportunity gave me insight and knowledge about HR that you cannot obtain in school. As a past Co-Op student and current part-time employee, this job is perfect for someone pursuing a career in HR as it will give you the tools you need to succeed and advance your HR career. 

While this company may not be for everyone, it is definitely fitting for many.
