Canary Biofuels

The plant is full of problems and as others mentioned nobody gets the full story .   It was a stressful place to be in especially during the last couple of months.  You would never know when the company decides to halt operations. 

The plant was partially functional, freezing every winter time after time. There was much needed engineering protocols and fixes to preserve the plant which were never followed. Employees ideas and feedback was always ignored.  Stock options were promised but never came true as you get terminated.  

A lot of frustration was present, people were quick to blame and no clear progress was made. Employees did what they could do.  Our CEO and the lead engineer would sugar coat  everything and lie to your face about the plants success. 

Other than the plant, the company itself was poorly ran. It  was normal  having late payments, missing stat pay, no raises, and zero safety. The workplace environment was pretty toxic. I learned a lot, but happy I am out of this sunken ship. 

Work- life balance is great with the week on andoff schedule. Chief Power Engineer is great to work for. Management is a different story. Operatations never get the full story, lots of plant downtime. Equipment gets neglected or duct taped together until it completely fails. New operations manager is over paid, and has no idea what's going on in the facility. Absolutely zero safety. Pay is extremely low which results staff in high turnover. Staff retention is not a concern for this company. Managers try and scape goat any concerns with " this is a start up company ". Head office will also sometimes shut out the Lab Manager with decisions about process changes usually resulting in loss of time and production. Lots of decisions made by managers and head office are effecting our production which results in poor bonuses as well. Alright place to work to get experience in plant operation, maintenance and steam time if your a power engineer. 

Canary Biofuels is a great place for work-life balance, but terrible for management and workplace culture. I have witnessed a coworker being sworn at and name-called by their supervisor for a whole 10 minutes, and later, the worker gets fired. It makes me really upset. I worked with very good people who ended up leaving. The company is around 2 years old, and there are only about 3 employees left (excluding management) who are still here. That tells you something.

Management makes terrible financial decisions and has no regard for employee feedback. Work is frustrating because no one listens to you. This is one of the reasons why multiple people left. I feel like the management here has zero managerial experience. They have the relevant work experience but no experience dealing with employees' needs, feedback, or anything. Not to many people are happy hear which is sad to see. 

Canary has only been around for 3 years. They started the Bio Diesel refinery and this year started a crush plant next door. There are 2 managers, one for each side.
The crush plant manager has strong management skills and personable, he actually gives direction and always has time to show you things about the operation and other operations he has been in. A very collabarative place to work. He makes work challenging and fun learning place to work.We all started not knowing anything about the process and within 3 months he had us believing and running the plant. Canary management gives support to the plant.
The shift is 7 days on 7days off and gives lotts of time for personal life balance. I would recommend working there

Canary fails to invest anything back into the plant or employees.  They do the absolute bare minimum. Raises are non existent.  We were promised a three tier levelling up system but never got raises. Promised stocks and for the company to go public. This never happened.

Company moral is low.  Instead of fixing things properly or improving engineering  controls   They will find the cheapest fix possible.  There is a lot of uncertainty present in the company as it appears the company won’t make any needed fixed or give raises until government funding is acquired or the company will go bankrupt. 

If you get a job with canary work for the crusher plant. A lot less stress if you ask me. 


I have been working at Canary for around two years, and you never get the clear picture or the full story.  You never know the truth of how well the plant is actually doing.
The plant is barely maintained. There are vacuum pumps, towers and other infrastructure that need major fixes and upgrades. No money goes back into employees, it is impossible to get raises and are bonuses are dependent on how well the plant is doing yet it is always shut down. 
The CEO never gives an honest answer to both employees and management.  Now the plant cannot produce biodiesel and only glycerin. Myself and other workers don't know how this is possible.  Investors and employees beware. 

I don’t recommend anyone working at Canary.  Pay is low and the plant is old and non functional. I would not invest a single penny.  
Regardless of your experience , tickets and training you cannot negotiate a wage. 
Management  lies about raises and leveling up. You start at level one and can go to two & three.  But this simply does not happen. 
Numerous bad decisions on infrastructure and plant operations.  Company will not spend any money on major repairs unless they get government funding or they are hoping to be bought out.  The plant is a lemon. 

I have nothing good to write about the company. The plant is non functional only a crusher plant. Little to no money from government ever went to the plant. 
The plant needed major fixes, new vacuum pumps, and tower upgrades. 
This was never done.

Employees were promised raises, stock options, and bonuses which we never got.  I am glad this company is shutting down. 

Canary is beyond toxic. Lack of experienced and seasoned management, and absolutely zero common sense guidance. If you don't fit in with their extreme Left culture, they will fire you or chase you out. There are much better jobs out there. Don't waste your time. Its only a matter of time before the EPA and FBI raid it....again.

This is by far the worst place/organization I have ever worked for, Management and team is so disjointed. If you are looking at a place to gain experience and get out, then it is the right place, otherwise, do not consider it.
