There was no real "typical" day at work.  Everyday was different depending on the individual needs and requirements of our patients.  The only "typical" day was every morning going to my office and turning on my computer and seeing what the day was going to bring. Changes were constant and your day could be directed entirely in a different direction if a STAT arose.  Your other work had to be done, so you would adjust and find a way to get all the clients needs done.  Management was not watching what you got done and if you got it done because it would be.  I knew I was working for the benefit of the health of individuals, and this would be enough incentive to achieve to my 110%.
The Management at Cancercare had an open-door policy.  They were there to guide and help you when you needed it. Guide lines for Treatments were constantly changing as per RO due to Clinical Trials, and Management would pre-warn us of the changes and walk us through it before the start date.
My co-workers at Cancercare were extraordinary.  Now the World is not perfect, but I would have to say that 98% of the employees were all there for the same reason - for the benefit of improving the health of our patients. Therefore we all work as a Team to achieve this goal.
I would have to say the hardest part of the job was when a small child comes in and we know we are doing pain relief only. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is when a patient comes back to visit after his last follow-up visit and says the treatments worked and they are either cancer free or in remission.  You know then that you were part of a Team of individuals all doing their part in improving this person's quality of life.

The front act (customer basis) of CCMB has been great and they are really are trying to make a difference and cure cancer. However, the biggest problem of this organization are the higher ups who doesn't know how to run an organization properly and who would cut corners (or even more) just so they can do whatever they wanted to do. Those higher ups does not have any understanding or a clear idea on how healthcare facility works and just like that they have this endless money to create things or make things happen regardless if it follows the guidelines or not.

On top of that, HR department here is a joke and you can never get a hold of them, no one is answering the phone, and just no one knows what they are doing. My pending inquries has been unanswered for months and have asked the union rep for help because of how bad they are in responding. With the recent bumping too, everyone is on the edge and stressed out.

The organization has no defined and reliable process in place and employees/managers/directors are breaking rules left and right. They are doing pretty much whatever they want. 

Providing effective and caring treatments to patients with cancer. Ensure equipment is functioning properly before treating patients. 

Workplace culture is good with a couple bad eggs. Unfortunately, these people make working difficult at times but that is life at most workplaces. 
Management in my department is supportive, fair, and understanding. We are extremely lucky. However, have not heard the same of other department heads. Executive leaders included. 

Hardest part of my job is meeting deadlines. My ability to meet deadlines heavily depend on others. Most other tasks are reasonably paced. 

Most enjoyable part of my job is working with intelligent, motivated, and caring individuals. We share a common desire to help people.


Unfortunately, I was laid off due to changes in the various medical programs. Program assistants lost our jobs and had to re-apply. I was re-hired in the same department, but after a few months, the director left on stress leave. I was then assistant to a new director who took away all my responsibilities and pretty well bullied me out of the job. I had no recourse, as I wasn't in a union and Human Resources was on her side. I lost the job after 10 years.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Currently working Mail Distribution. (Casual) awesome co-workers, understanding and helpful.

Couldn’t ask for a nicer place to work (full time would be nice)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes training isn’t the best, but hard when other coworkers are on holidays, etc. for training to work properly

Very good, coworkers are great.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Receiving deliveries, receiving and delivering mail and packages.

The work environment isn't bad, far better than the hospital setting. The hours are great and allows for family life balance. The pay is per collective agreement. I agree with previous comments that HR is useless and doesn't know what they're doing - getting any answers from anyone is like pulling teeth whether it's through a call or email or even going in person. Management is great at some sites and terrible at others. Overall, the staff who stay have worked at ccmb forever and the turnover seems to be with the newer staff - training isn't always consistent.

Doctors and nurses are very good, kind hearted people. Patients are very warm. Hardest part of the job is doing 3 jobs while meeting your own deadline. Management cover each other up so you have no one to trust, and they are very good on fabricating lies against Filipinos. Doctors, Nurses, Clerks quit that's why they are always hiring. No free food.

CancerCare Manitoba is a culturally diverse and inclusive organization that believes in the value of their employees.  They provide opportunities for growth and development.  The hardest part of my role within the organization was to continuously adapt to the never unyielding pace of high demand clinical environment.

Managers are horrible-always short staffed and you are expected to do the job of 2-3 people. Managers not willing to listen to problems or issues that arise. Managers and HR look the other way when there is abuse (both physically and verbally) towards staff. If you are looking for low pay, stressful and toxic environment with no chance for advancement then CCMB is the place for you. 

The team was incredibly supportive and welcoming, and the work environment was positive and uplifting. I was able to learn so much from my colleagues and contribute to a meaningful cause. The organization truly values its employees and provides great benefits and opportunities for growth.
