a typical day sucked, keep your mouth shut and be thankful to get thru another day without blowing your stack and losing your job....I learned that you can do your best but it means nothing. I learned that you cannot trust everyone. If u have an opinion then your trouble and you need to be terminated. ...The management is very poor, shallow, prejudice and unorganized. There is no consistency within  management or the company for that matter what so ever. its each man for himself.  Lead by example is only a phrase in this company.....All company policies and credos.... just writing on the walls...means nothing to management.. At one point this company was one of the best companies in BC to work for, and i participated in voting them in as such...Disappointment levels are very high and workers are very unhappy in this company.....My coworkers....an absolute joy to work with and learn from. the hardest part of the job was the lack of support, and respect and the constant inconsistencies and gossip within the entire company. Having everybody know your business before you did....Leaving a team that i worked so hard with for so long and the accomplishments we made without the support of management...The most enjoyable part of the job, was the team i got to know and love. The team that i was able to be part of for so many years....the customers that we were able to make a positive difference in their lives after suffering such despair.....

If you have less experience than someone else there and a problem arises between you two, be prepared to not be believed!

Warehouse workers are lazy so I ended up doing their job, in order to do my job. Which eats up my precious time to meet MY count. Which never happened. 

Not allowed to change, or use PPE (because thats for the road workers only!) to properly protect yourself from human feces that come in from the sewer back up jobs.

Youre given a set amount of time to clean customers furniture, dishes, and other personal belongings. Told you HAVE to lift, and bring  items over to a table (10-20 ft away) to clean and put back in correct spot, instead of just bending over to clean. Because contractors come in and "it makes you seem lazy". 

One of the crew members  would scoop up all the small items (i.e. candle holders, figurines), to meet their count for the day. Which left giant, bulky, TIME CONSUMING items (Standing wardrobe, dressers)for the rest of the crew.  No one else made counts for the day. 

No full explanations on task that managers will ask you to do. 
Managers have their nose in the air, and never help coworkers when problems arise. 
This company has a bad case of in house fighting.

i have worked for Canstar for almost 5 years and plan to make it my career.  I started in Recon as a tech and moved up to Manager.  Managers and supervisors are here to support to the front line workers.   We make sure the tech's have the tools and training to succeed and move up when opportunities become available.  Reconstruction is an amazing training opportunity as we train for 4 trades and do not accept inferior work practices, we also give you the time needed to do exemplary work you can be proud of.  The training is exceptional with master level tradesmen training and everyone helping train each other in their fields of expertise.  Everyone is cross trained in Carpentry, drywall and paint.  There are no attitude issues and everyone gets along and can have fun working together.  Recon is an exceptional team.

Canstar truly fosters a great team spirit.  Everyone works together, supports each other, laughs together and you can't help but feel like you have a family at work.  Management has an open-door policy and I feel like they really listen to their employees and take any concerns/suggestions seriously.  There is also a very strong safety focus and that is an important element, especially in this industry.  If you are willing to learn and work hard, there is ample room for advancement or moving within different departments. They also have some pretty great benefits and programs for advancing your career and hands-on learning.  If you're looking for a great team environment and somewhere positive to grow your career, then Canstar truly is a great fit.

This is easily the worst place I have ever worked in my entire life and I’ve worked for some terrible companies over the last 20 years. NOTHING but lies and corporate jargon to get people to join their company and then they go back on every promise they made to get you to sign on. Raises? NOPE! Performance reviews? WORK HARDER FOR WAY LESS $ THAN INDUSTRY STANDARDS! Best part was the minute I was let go, the competition scooped me up for better pay and an ACTUAL COMPANY PROVIDED FUEL CARD! Imagine that DEATHSTAR, actually paying for the fuel for your employees to go to job sites instead of making them pay for it themselves so you can see profit margins! Shame on you as a company for lying to honest people that have families to support! IN SHORT THIS IS A TERRIBLE PLACE TO WORK AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!

Ive been working for canstar for over a decade. Ive seen some comings and going but with all the changes within the years they've always treated their employees like family. If I ever pursue work outside the restoration field, ill still sing the praises of my current employer for years to come. From motivational breakfast staff meetings , employee bonus programs, incredible year end parties, a yearly employee/ family playland gathering and the iconic lobster fest they host to allow staff to integrate and mingle with other industry professionals. 
They demand the best costumer service and the highest quality of work. Hard work, knowledge and geniality is always recognised.

owner only cares about money. vehicles need repair that don’t get done in a timely fashion , subtrades are unhappy due to not getting paid, make a mess of jobs sites that you have to go clean up. it’s hard to get the tools needed to complete the tasks, as they don’t want to spend any money. On call shifts are brutal with long shifts , and no extra pay for being on call. Department managers care but can only do so much as there hands are tied for the most part , all other people in VP and management positions don’t care about you, your just a number. Don’t recommend working here . Raises are rarely given, but more and more responsibilities are added to your job tasks . Safety is the 3rd priority after profits and expanded into new areas, even though we don’t have work in the lower mainland to keep people busy. 

In general it's  a sinking ship. No work down here but higher ups keep hiring people and buying more companies. They do not care about you. You are just a number. Dept. Management trys their best but they can only do so much. once it slows down you will be at home hoping for work. You get told to stay home for days and days. Over the last few years it has slowed down so much. Winter time we are sitting 1 2 3 days in the week. Its getting worse in the last few years. Many people want to leave and probably will once they find a new job.  I will to. The ppl we work with are majority very good, and if you become a lead you get a truck for work. But there isn't work to keep you busy.  Some of the better guys have already left

It's rewarding to be part of a team that gets to help people after they've experienced a disaster.

Lots of room for career development in this company with many different avenues to pursue from field work to office administration to project coordination with 50-100% tuition reimbursement offered to get you there.  

This is a place where you have to work hard and the work load keeps you busy all day.

I loved the annual PlayLand day for Canstar employees and their families where ride passes and a bbq lunch was provided for all to enjoy-so fun!

Canstar had everything required to do any household or commercial repair. They had screened their staff and have a well balanced cooperative workforce. They have a tool crib and a material holing area for common materials in order to speed the reconstruction process up.
