Most co-workers are fun to be with and helpful. You will get to meet and interact with some interesting people. Good benefit package, 1 free meal per shift, salary is not bad. 
Unionized so career advancement and available shifts are mostly given based on seniority. Few lucky ones are full time, majority are part time employees only and a lot of casuals so available shifts are distributed widely - not much shift to pick up.
Staff parking is just on the side of the street around the building so better arrive early to find a good spot or have some extra time for walking.
Trainings and seminars are given as needed. Overall a great company to start with.

Working as a HCA you will come in contact with staff that is very friendly, and helpful. Other staff is very rude and will talk about you behind your back. Nurses do not address issues you have in any way.  Policy states English only on the premise, yet most employees speak their native language to each other in person or on the telephone.  Some resident need to be transferred to LTC, yet the process takes way longer then it should. Some residents are very aggressive, and abusive towards staff. Yet, states in the mission statement that both employees and residents are expected to be treated with respect and safe. Nurse can witness the abuse and does nothing while two staff try to deal with the aggressive resident.

Working at Canterbury was a crazy experience that didn't have many postive features about them. Most of the workers there weren't very professional/ well-mannered about their job and sometimes didn't make new comers feel welcome. You could be aimed at in the beginning because you were a guy and you were working to slow for them so they stop helping you which discourages a lot of new workers.

I gave my experience to the company, but the company not helped me to upgrade my career like on job training or short courses related to maintenance. The company not considered winter jacket and winter boot as PPE. However, the coworkers make always my day bright and we had a team spirit. 
The company working hours changed from 8 hours to 7.75 hours. This means instead of 8 hours I use to work 7 hours and 45 minutes. This is discouragement. 

*I learned how to deal with different people and always apply the word Patience is a Virtue.
* the workplace is great and the ambiance is wonderful. can work comfortable as well as with co-workers
*the most enjoyable is that when the management notice the employess hard work and give good credit

The Kitchen Manager needs to be more respectful towards employees, makes life hard if he does not like you. Favoritism. If a employee excels then he feels threatened needs to show respect. needs to take management course on people skills.

Downhill, used to be good place work but since new kitchen manager took over its getting worse and worse. The room 30 persen empty and no budget for part time or casual. He cut everyone whos not his friend, appoint his friend whos not qualified as a sous. Its just nepotism, favouritism at its best.

A good place to start building your work ethics/foundation. They train you everything you need or might need to know in case of emergencies. Good co-workers as well. All in all a very good work environment.

The Canterbury Foundation is the gold standard for senior care, and having the opportunity to be apart of such an amazing foundation is a privilege. The dining room is the perfect place for university students to work.

This is where I discovered my passion for recreation therapy and working with the elderly. The activities team is so awesome, and are very genuine people. I will really miss this place when I have to leave.
