In the day shift we would get in set up the cages to load boxes into . We would also have to sort fabric land skids almost everyday. We got 3 trucks with a total of about 500 boxes to be scanned and sorted. These boxes would be going to different ares around Ontario. Also we would have to sort a couple Fabric land skids, into different locations around Ottawa. On the night shift we would get in and set up the cages, then sort the boxes that were left over from the day shift. the night shift deals with boxes that go around the Ottawa region. Once we finished with those, we had 5 trucks that would show up and we would have to unload about 3000 boxes. During my time working there i learned how to work at a fast pace, and to stay organized. It was an excellent place to work in terms of people, if you don't mind talking to truckers. The hardest part of the day shift was having to sort fabric land skids in the time constraint. The hardest part of the night shift was the amount of boxes you had to deal with, and at a very fast pace. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with.

Typical Day

-Receive customer and inbound linehauls, some with tightly packed freight, that must be scanned and sorted to appropriate location.
-Outbound linehauls are loaded to capacity and best of ability  
-Unloading loose and palatalized freight from trailers

-How to drive a forklift and load trailers in a fast paced, time sensitive environment
-Developed a deeper understanding of the Courier and Logistics industry (e.x. problems that occur with equipment, employees, and customers) and help resolve issues.

The job is not mentally taxing, you unload and sort boxes up to 2000 per night in a 5-hour time frame.  The job tends to be physically demanding with some breaks between the physical exertion.

One of the worst parts of the job is the dirt.  You arrive clean and you leave with a grey film on your skin.  Another is the laughable "training" that happens there, though my Supervisor seemed to be aware of that fact and created various training aids to help.  He seemed to care a great deal about staff morale and I know he quite often went to bat for us for fair treatment, like a shift premium for the night shift.  He even ended up arguing with the CEO of the company himself for the premium, which we managed to get.  He is leaving the company out of frustration and the quality of management will go downhill again probably.

The general workplace culture is absentee management, except when a mistake is made, then you can expect a call from the Terminal Manager telling you that you had screwed up.  Most of the people that work there have no other place to go and as a result, tend to stay there out of desperation.

Az drivers do not go through agency because the supervisors can cut you off the job anytime if you dont kiss butt and move move move. My route was 16 hour route but managment had problem with me finishing at 15 hours.  If your a robot go ahead otherwise this type of job is for retired or semi retired or fresh drivers. They express saftey but when it comes to fatigue they want you to over look that and move move move. Would not recommend if your a relaxed type of driver, this is for drivers who are willing to move move . Otherwise ecuipment is top notch. Managment likes to play favoritism. Asking questions is a must otherwise lack of communication can cause problems. Make sure you triple check everything dont be afraid to ask questions.

go in do my work that i was trained on not necessarily hired to do, location is crazy you have to go all the way around the building through trucks its unsafe to get to the main reception doors, then get fired for no apparent reason. hardest part of the job is keeping it with prejudice people aboard, most enjoyable would be to see poor management fired not great loyal employees all the time. lots of people lost their jobs to this place, but shouldn't be the good people.  my message is : you missed one! hint? supervisor in finance and 2nd: hire more people you have only one of us in our departments doing all the work.

Flexible and hard working and focus on work to sort or unload and load trucks and scan the barcode and drive safety and secure the parcels safety in truck .. 
Follow the rules of the freight.. no parcels or packages into the day cab area only inside the freight box..  
Obey the rules from Cardinal Couriers Headquarters and manager too \

Hearing impaired person like me use the hands to sign language is communication to talk .. 
Hearing people use the voice to talk is communication .. 
it is equal for sharing communication is very important key.. i can read lipread well but speak slowly to understand what to do or where place to drop or pick up parcels from the vaults..

I work at Walmart full time and make more than a warehouse worker  I also am full time, I know someone who works there and has a family to pay for but can afford to because of such a low pay rate if you are a warehouse worker you should be making tops $15.00/hr and more. This company doesn't even have good benefits, and when the ad says 6:00pm - 2:00am they really mean 5:30pm - 5:00am and they still don't make enough money with those hours. Cardinal Couriers isn't the best full time job. All you do is slavery work and only get paid minimum wage, I think that they deserve to be making at least $15 - $18/hr for the work they do and how they have been there a long time and still making minimum and they aren't even in school.

A typical day was arrive at 18:00,determined trailer, inspect equipment, drive Montreal West and perform various pickups (minimum 2, up to 7) return to Cardinal hub in Point-aux-trembles were the loads from various trucks would be balanced and prepared for the line hauls, upon confirmation that my trailer was ready, i would perform a line haul/switch to Quebec, upon returning to Point-aux-trembles I would pin to a pre-specified trailer and drop it at a client on boul des grand prairie, typical finishing time was 5:00AM

A typical day at work consists of answering phones, dealing with customers in varies scenarios, moving and sorting boxes and skids to be delivered to various customers.

I learned that courier is a very challenging yet rewarding career.

Management is very set in their ways, but always has others interests at heart.

Most co-workers were wonderful to work with, very fun and open atmosphere.

The hardest part of the job is the physical demand, which does get easier as time passes.

The most enjoyable part is that everyone is friends, and tries to help everyone else out, no matter the task.

the guys were friendly well most of of them anyways.Sometimes can be long hours when they expect you to do a double shift and for me was 18 to 19 hours in the day and be back in 5 hours to do your next shift then get caught in the trap of having to do another double as no one else wants to. The more you did for the company even did the odd thing on my own time to keep the customer happy and you wind up having a mark against you they don't look at what you've done for them thats the sad thing there
