I work with an absolutely fantastic team of nurses for a manager who really cares about enabling us to do our job.  The company has great resources in wound care education and advertises upcoming educational opportunities.  There is also a small financial support for pursuing education.  Seeing client's in their homes creates an opportunity to build very fulfilling and effective therapeutic relationships and allows you to really focus on the needs of the client currently being seen.  The clients are all very different, so it provides a great deal of variety and constant learning.  

A typical day at work involves seeing 5-13 clients in their homes spread across the town.  Several of the clients are typically chronic or acute wound care.  These range from post surgical wounds to diabetic foot ulcers, venous or arterial leg ulcers, slow healing traumatic wounds, or even a few of un-known origins.  Other clients may be on service for antibiotic therapy for infection, or teaching for diabetics or clients with new ostomies.  There is never a dull day.  Seeing the clients includes meeting them in their homes and actually doing their treatment plan, ordering supplies, communicating with their case manager, doctor, or pharmacist as appropriate, and communicating with the team assistant about any changes that may occur.  

The problem with this company, and this industry, is that there is no consistency with hours or pay, and we are required to be on-call for 24hrs a day, 1 day each week, and for the weekend one weekend in 4.  This can create very, very long hours, and a lot of stress.  When on call, typically it involves forwarding messages after hours to clients who call in.  The on call nurse is also responsible for any emergency visits that may happen after hours.  This may include a leaking negative pressure dressing, a blocked catheter, a malfunctioning IV pump, or a symptom emergency in the Oncology or Palliative client.  It is very unpredictable and quite stressful at times.  

Working at care partners is good simply because of the managers with that being said, managers only have so much that they can do when all scheduling is done by schedulers that are overworked and choose to use their emotional differences to schedule people, according to how they feel rather than the fairness of our Collective agreement, however, will take the steps to protect their selves to make it look like it reflects that they’re doing their job when essentially more than not most PSW‘s and field workers have an issue with the phone staff from being rude to being hung up on to point blank, having your schedule a manipulated to lose hours on top of the fact that this company only hires part time there is no room to make a proper living when you have to go find an additional job because to pick up additional hours you dang near have to bag schedulers that are in a whole different city than you are to pick up hours to have a decent check payments…I’ve been with care partners for almost a year and still do not get full-time hours. Even when I open my schedule for 12 hours shifts seven days a week. 
I do not recommend this company as a lifelong company to stay with on top of that. They also do not pay into your pension. do not give benefits unless you put in 2000 hours nearly give or take 100 hours or so to live properly. This company isn’t a go to as far as retiring. Also, you do not get to meet your coworkers in the field that you are working with even if you’re working with the same clients there is no location to meet up. There’s no office anywhere near our city. It’s nearly 3 hours away with that being said, we don’t do anything as far as team spirit making friends and feeling like family in your career as a PSW with this company they Solely removed the actual building location to save money, and really did not acknowledge the fact that this is detrimental for the culture of working together 

You get paid per visit.  That sounds cool at first but the company is private and doesn't pay you at the rate that they are supposed to.  An example is if you are a new grad registered nurse in a unionized position you would probably bank an hourly rate of 32 dollars.  CP will pay you 23.  And you may decide ok I'll just see as many people as I can and earn more.  What happens instead is that your numbers are not consistent.  One day you'll have 14 visits and the next day is 5.  It really can be a killer on your earning potential.   Another issue.. is the on call hours.  You are sometimes required to be available after office hours to answer the pager and in some cases go and visit.  Now if you are required to visit someone after 4:30pm (after regular business hours)  they'll only pay you 10 dollars per visit. Bummer right?  It's actually really discouraging and for that reason alone most people never volunteer for on call when someone calls in suck.  Instead the management scrambles and assigns the next available nurse despite the fact that that person may have been reassigned that position back to back with no reward or hourly wage for the time they've put in.  That's primarily why I left.  The stress doesnt warrant the reward.  

I like the  job overall.  If you like being outside in any kind of weather this job is for you. If you are a new nurse and want nursing skills on would care, iv, ostomy, g feeds, chest tubes, insulin, or simply community this the job for you. If you're a parent with young children and need flexibility in your day schedule this the job for you.  If pay isn't your priority then this the job for you.  You gotta be able to work independently and be self directed.  Talk to your manager when you are unsure or need support.  Theyll connect you with the right mentor get the job done.   The patients are the highlight of the day, they the ones that keep you going.  You build some solid relationships with many of them.

Pick another starter job because the pay is equivalent to working at a greenhouse, Starbucks but without the high school drama that includes team schedulers and the nurse managers. Nurse managers cause issues not resolve -are manipulative, incompetent in people management, getting paid well yet ignore, or misrepresent situations-not trustworthy. Completely  indifferent to workload needs of RPNs and demeaning to office staff. Cliques, gossip, storytelling, favouritism. Training is unstructured, no written procedures to follow, no policy manuals for reference. Zero staff development opportunities. Work is highly repetitive and coworkers help their ‘buddies’ rather than work as a team. Takes over a year of full time hours+ to gain very small increase. 12 hour weekend shifts. Main site in Tillsonburg location has poor reputation, catty office, nurse managers are sour and over their heads for their age to properly manage staff. Covid accommodations for staff to work remotely NOT agreed to and for staff that took available leave, were mocked. Computer system a daily issue that management and IT department did nothing to improve.- delayed work but judged on your work performance. Some positions, can’t leave your desk for more than 20 minutes because of timed work. 

This company is awful 
New psws are capped at $16.50 an hour 
You get kms and drive time though 
Hours are so unreliable 
You have to give a ton of availability whether they have work for you or not . 
Managment is not willing to help you or work with you when it comes to availability and having a 2nd job .
Scheduling is horrendous the planners have no idea geographically where clts are when they are booking visits so be prepared to feel like a ping pong ball driving all over the place .
The union is pretty much useless . 
And your weekends to work don't be surprised if you only have 2 or 3 hrs . But you still have to be available 
You spend alot of time doing work on your own time . 
Doing your daily call outs ect ect .
Be prepared to drive a lot and spend a lot of money  on fuel . 
Your forced to go into unsafe homes health and safety to this company is a joke .
Dont be surprised if your constantly put in unsafe situations from hoarders to bed bug infestations to violent clts.
No support from managment.  
You get next to no information on your clts so you very rarely know what your walking into . Sometimes it's not very nice. 
Patients and families can and do treat you horribly in some cases so be prepared to have tough skin . 
Also be very aware that if your working dayshift on your Friday of your weekend to work they can also make you work an evening shift that same Friday on top of your day shift clts even if its only 1hr in the evening! 
It is impossible to count on hours so I'f your the kind of person who needs and likes to have a set budget dont do this!!

I worked in the office and loved the relaxed atmosphere and the responsibilities of the job itself. The job itself was a very rewarding experience and I enjoyed the challenge of the work and cared a lot about it. However, the work load was so overwhelming, the stress was making people ill. The office had an extremely high turnover rate because the rate of pay is the worst for the job with any company in the city, the sheer volume of work is anxiety-inducing (because they were chronically understaffed), and the office was poorly managed. It came to a point where I was expected to do the amount of work that was once spread out among several different office workers. It was simply not doable, but you had to find a way to get it done because it's an essential service for very vulnerable people. Management was constantly making bizarre and unnecessary changes in the office that merely disrupted our work and inconvenienced clients and PSWs. I was consistently disgusted with the indifference, disrespect and lack of appreciation with which the management treated its staff, especially PSWs, and the clients. It honestly blows me away that this company continues to get funding. I absolutely do not recommend that anybody work for this company. If you have an interest in any of the positions with this company, I'd suggest going to one of the competitors. To my knowledge, virtually every other company will pay you better and treat you better.

This is quite possibly the worst organization anyone could ever work for. This company does not care about its patients or employees. The workload was never reasonable, especially for such a poor salary. My offer letter stated that my salary was based on a 30 hour work week, however, I had put in 50-60 hours a week just to keep up, and was never compensated for my time. I did everything from hiring everyone at the branch level, teaching orientation, and managing WSIB claims. For an agency with a ridiculously high turnover (because it really does not take the average human being very long to realize that this company is a disgrace to the field of healthcare) and no concern for the health and safety of its employees (ie: sending untrained workers to special functions, returning injured workers to regular duties without proper medical clearance, constantly overworking employees, etc), there was no possible way my job would get done between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. CarePartners is a joke, and it's unfortunate that this is a healthcare company with people's lives in its hands. I now work for an employer that actually cares about its employees and the community it serves. I do one-third of the work I did at CarePartners, and yet make three times the salary. Honestly, please save yourself the stress and abuse and stay away from CarePartners.

A typical day, you work completely independently and use a work phone for schedule and documentation. You go to patients homes and provide personal care, this is mostly bathing. There are many homes that are unsafe, and you spend alot of money on gas as they can send you 30 mins of driving from your last client NOT from your home. You do not get paid for driving to or from your first and last client. 
When you are new they will take advantage of you not wanting to say no and will send you everywhere and constantly call you to pick up extra. They start calling at 6am regardless if you have the day off or if you start much later. 
Constant schedule changes, often I would go to bed thinking I knew what I was doing the next day just to wake up and find that I had more or different clients. That was really irritating. 
The hours are relatively flexible but never consistent. You can go from having full schedule to having only 3 hours in the day. 
When someone cancels you do not get paid. 
The communication between management, scheduling teams and psw workers and the patients is really horrible. 
They have new scheduling teams all the time and there is no consistency for anyone. It was a nightmare dealing with angry clients because of the scheduling team. 

Over all I did not enjoy my experience working for this company, it left me feeling frustrated, unappreciated and under paid. 




to start off they hire literally everyone and anyone! to be in this position you should have some sort of medical background and 3/4 of the people don't. 

you tell the team leads something that certain people need to work on as if you've got a lot of errors scheduling and nothing gets done about it. they just say "oh okay ill look into it" but never do. 

the way they schedule the office staff is absolutely ridiculous! the office is not run by seniority and it should be. if you've been there a decent amount of time you shouldn't be given the afternoon shifts so to speak. We are constantly short staffed and no matter how many shifts you pick up or how many extra hours you put in to stay and help them out you don't get any kind of thanks or appreciation for it. They will send out an email and say "thanks team for all your hard work" when 3/4 of the people don't stay and help out or pick up any shifts. 

they say competitive wages etc its not competitive at all, yes they work in a grid so you get a raise every so often but the amount of stress you deal with on a daily basis the pay isn't good enough for. 

the turn around for staff is insane, its frustrating to not only the office staff but the psw's since they never know they can actually count on 1 person to help them out they are constantly being bumped from person to person.

The schedulers and management treat workers like garbage.  They are bullying and keep bothering you to work hours that are not in your schedule with large gaps between clients  Or they work you straight without any breaks - no lunch most days or any breaks and do not give you traveling time between clients so you end up rushing so you can make it to your next client and no time to eat or use the bathroom. They break employment laws.

They have a condescending attitude towards workers and treat you like you are children.

I am completely shocked by this agency. Other agencies are better and so many PSWs I've met quit Red Cross Care Partners to work for other agencies and gave up the benefits just to get the out. They have no respect for workers and they all have this smiling serpent like attitude.  You'll find out. 

The gas they pay you doesn't amount to much. You pay $400 a month in gas and they reimburse you $160 a month. You are working for 8 hours and get paid for 5 because of the driving around.  What is worse is they try to get you to work days and then come back for one or two hours at night!

They schedulers and management have no conscience about booking you without any breaks or and give you no driving time even though they have breaks.  These people are inhumane and uncivilized.
