If you enjoy being treated like a number, being a seniority based system that cares little to not at all about job performance, completely reliant on an archaic seniority list and  having no say where you work for the next 10 years as you work your way up the list this is the place for you! 

Don’t bother making strong connections with students, parents staff or administrators for a decade because you probably won’t be at any school very long. It doesn’t matter how good of a job you do, as long as your seniority is insufficient that is all that will matter.

Better yet, you may be moved at any point during the year if the needs are deemed to be changed by the board. You may or may not get an explanation, I wouldn’t count on it. Essentially, they have complete autonomy to move you as needed when and where they please. 

You will be told the system is a grind, same as supply teachers by if you try to raise issues about any of these topics. 

However do not mention they will make nearly double the wage, eventually up to triple than you and have salaries positions while you are laid off every season. 

Union support varies based on position, if you are a classroom aide, expect the bare minimum. A new SSP, you will likely get very little support. 

Other than all that… yeah it’s great 

It's a productive work place; sharing experience with colleagues and having fun. It was easy to socialise with people.
According to the fact I am open minded, I was able to build good relationships with my co-workers.
It's also challenging as I had to fulfil my students' needs. But it was okay, as I took courses for special needs.
The most enjoyable part of the job was to see my students succeed in their endeavours.

It is a rewarding and often challenging job to be an educational assistant. I love working with students and helping with everyday life skills. Depending on the school and the teachers and principal it can be a job that really lacks appreciation. We as educational assistants are not payed enough for all that we do in a day or treated equally a lot of the time. It is also difficult to only be working 10 months of the year.

Treated very well. Good pay and benefits.

Stressful till you get the hang of the job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work enviroment and culture excellent with the board.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Chat for 15 min or so with charge custodian then off to do my work.

Takes time to get full time, It can be difficult to secure a full-time position here, as opportunities don’t come up often. From my experience, the principal plays a major role in determining your chances of becoming permanent. This can make the process feel uncertain, since a lot depends on their discretion rather than a clear, consistent pathway to full-time employment.

Working in a friendly work environment motivates employees to be more productive and collaborative. Working a schedule and have a work life balance is important in life. Being able to strategize to manage kids' behaviours and learning is not an easy tasks that asks patience and creativity. That's what I enjoyed being part of this opportunity.

Work as a substitute teaching. Dispatching is well organized and there is a lot of work available for subs. However, you paid once a month for the previous 3 weeks. As a sub and having to wait such a long time for pay os hard financially. I had to look for evening and weekend work that pays weekly or biweekly so I could have some cash flow. 

Working with the special needs children was a great experience. It was fun being with the children, I was able to help them with their assignments specifically those in kindergarten and grade 1.

Always problems with managerment. They try to control your life any chance they get. If you have an issuse to talk about they try and sweet it under the rug. Nothing ever gets anywhere and room for advancement is zero 

Excellent place to work. Everyone including children are super friendly and kind.
