My work at census included visiting households at the assigned locations, distributing questionnaires and following up the completion of the questionnaires. Skills that I have learned from this work are the communications, self-organization and time management.

My direct report have given lots of support and motivated me to achieve the assigned work in a timely manner. The work environment is positive with lots of chance to contact different families giving support. 

There was a challenge on my job when encountering a household individual rude attitude. Understanding and patience are important for managing difficult situations. My direct report guided and supported me to approach the individual and tackled the challenge. This is the picture I would not forget, showing the importance of mentoring and leading.

I enjoyed the work with not only achieving the assigned individual objectives, but also on team work for achieving the team results. Interactions and communications among the team members and superior have guided me on efficient management and team work achievement, understanding the importance of Census at different aspects.

It was an interesting job, but can be tiring going door-to-door. On the plus side, it keeps you in shape. My supervisor was very nice and helpful, and the vast majority of people were receptive to providing the information. You do have to be organized to keep track of who you visited and who wasn’t home/available so you can circle back. On a personal note, I did find it challenging to find a facility if you needed one, since you’re working neighbourhoods. On more than one occasion I had to quickly drive home! My best advice would be to scope out the neighbourhood first, so you map it out logically. Also, there are a number of different forms, so make sure you are filling out the right one. I invested in pens that you could erase, and a file folder with different tabs so I could access the papers I needed quickly. People are a bit impatient at their door, so you have to be prepared to take their information as quickly and as efficiently as you can. Overall, I recommend this job. 

Each day we were assigned a list of households that we were supposed to go and complete a questionaire from.

I learned not to be shy anymore, I learned how to communicate with a client face-to-face. I was able to talk to them and answer their questions as they asked.

Although, I did not get to meet with my supervisor in person most of the times, but she was very helpful over the phone. She gave me the right directions when I'm lost on some things. Overall, she was a very supportive supervisor.

The hardest part of the job was to reach the incentive.

I enjoyed about this job the most was that I got to travel around and meet different people and all travelling expenses were paid.

I went from house assignment to house assignment to gather census information.

No real interaction with oo-workers.

The hardest part of my day was trying to get annoyed residents to provide the necessary information even though I was interfering in their daily lives.

Census Canada was an incredible job opportunity, although the hours put in were long and sometimes certain situation dealing with clients were uneasy. Long hours are spent with this job due to collection of personal information needed from every household on your provided route. Gained lots of valuable experience dealing with multiple different personalities and view points of government. 

It was a good experience knowing the logistics behind the census. I t also opened my eyes to the different cultures in my community. The hardest part was getting the census form completed so I had to arrange with cultural leaders in the community to be involved in the census process.It opened up a whole new look at the culture of my city.

A census worker works both independently and in a team environment. Duties included delivering, gathering and completing census forms for families within a designated area, during a limited time frame. Administrative duties included daily reporting, form collection and submission. A high level of public interaction is required.

This employment opportunity was very satisfying & fulfilling, working independently and as part of a team. Goals were relayed to the team by the Team Leader, and objectives were clearly communicated. Very enjoyable & rewarding.

I enjoyed working with group of people who is most helpful that leads to success.
Postal management to mail out in bulk to he appropriate individuals, families and groups.
Manage all the mailing list in order to send to right locations and addresses.

I found the balance of training for me and training I provided for my staff combined with the flexible hours a good balance.  I enjoyed the counting houses down distant roads early in the morning while the snow was still at the side of the road peaceful.  I loved the management I worked with and the people I hired.  Great experience!
