This was my first construction experience, and it was pretty good. Not the best.

Had 0 experience or knowledge of flooring, during the interview they promised to work train from the ground up, but they had their worst employee be my trainer. With little to no patience for teaching, I would often be left standing in one spot.

8 firm hours were promised, even if the job was completed in less than 8. But constantly was given 25-30hrs per week. So no incentive to finish as efficiently and fast as possible. OT is mandatory, don't leave til the job is finished which is good. Extra money, but during slow periods.. Rare to come by.

Job isn't too difficult, the most physically demanding part of the job is transporting equipment/materials. But the overall actual work was the least demanding part of the job.

Grinding the floor is "tiresome" mainly due to how slow the grinder goes, how loud the machines are, and how they will wiggle left/right and shake. This makes you a bit sleepy. Other than that, not very difficult.

Jackhammering the ground was the more fun part of the job, however, it's really rough on your back, they don't provide face shields or much in regards to protective equipment other than the standard respirator. So you'll find that conceret chips will fly into your face, been lucky enough to not get it into my eyes. Just a few cuts on my lip. Hands will be a bit shakey after a couple long hours of using.

With the correct foreman training you, the job can be learned within a couple weeks. However, the likely hood of that scenario is slim. So if you expect to be able to ask a few questions, don't. Set your expectations painfully low. As the one who is usually training new employees will "not repeat himself" when you seek clarification or to ensure you understand fully what/where to start with at the jobsite. If you ask to perform and learn some aspects of the job, he will suggest that there is no time to teach you, and do it all on his own, you can watch and try to visually learn, but unless you are allowed to perform the duties, will not be retained.

The set up for success, it seems like they have an idea on what the definition means, but the execution is fairly difficult for the employer to understand.

If you enjoy a confrontation with your foreman then this is a great job. If you're someone who's able to easily ignore their talking, and has experience in flooring then easily the job for you.

By no means is the job the worst out there. It's a very standard work environment. What you experienced at your other workplaces, the good, the bad, the ugly, exist here as it does with all. Some will find a great experience here, some will find an extremely bad experience here.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This company is actually very safe. Some companies out there will pretend to follow the rules but this company actually does.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management. Alot of things are left last minute and you need to be able to adapt on the fly. Also it's hard to get a regular work schedule. No work over 40kms wind or rain.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not bad. Could use some work here in terms of proper team building and structure. Turnover is so high that most managers have become jaded and forgotten that morale actually increases the quality of work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Could start the day with a brutal roof tear off or if you're lucky a nice easy retrofitted lay in. As always moving the goal is to make sure EVERYTHING is water tight.

I found the Calgary office to be professionally run.   They have lots of structure, lots of procedures and processes, but they work.   They got customers, they earn money, and it flows downhill to the foremans.   There is not one negative person there that I can think of.

I was provided lots of tools too, and any resource I need.  They also provide a retirement option that is most generous I've ever known.

It's not really a downside, but they are very corporate like, so procedures and processes are very systematic, it's not loosey goosey, so if you are looking for company to party in the backyard with and make unusually rude jokes, it's not that kind of place.

There isn’t they’re all whiny babies Kitchener managers like a Diddy ! a lot of empty promises coming from the CEO great company if you don’t like to work and you like to sit at home and never wanna get fired

Stressful manager does not give you the full information for the job 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Trying to get the proper information to do the job right as a manager tells you doesn’t have the scope

I put three years in that company and got absolutely no where because of the Forman would not let you try anything new  without fighting about it . HR does nothing about the issues . And problem never goes away and then you never advance!!!  Everyone one is just a number . No equality they have there main players , everyone else seems to just me a number to them wasn't impressed after leaving and putting in all that hard work to get somewhere for nothing !!

Not a good place to work.. shady business

Dealing with the foremen is very difficult.

The work environment is very toxic.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Typical day is very horrible. The foremen are no good and the company approves it.

Almost all the work is out of town, meaning most of the provinces. You work 7 days a week for 3-4 weeks, have a week or so off then back out on the road. Jobs are mostly at night so it’ll be 7 nights a week. Paid every Friday which was nice. It’s a good job if you don’t mind 70 hour weeks and being in hotels for a month at a time. 

for such a big company I cannot believe the way they run it, I got let go at 11 pm out of nowhere, not to mention they never had planned shifts, it was always me getting called at 12pm at night to come in the next day, none of the management staff had it together, sure the pay is good but I would recommend to never work for this company under any circumstance.

One of the better roofing companies I worked for, they always keep you busy even in the slow mnthx, usually working ten months a year. The hardest part was travelling and being away from home.
