Central City Brewers and Distillers

The Lab has good equipment, probably top of the line for craft beer. The Quality Control Manager however cannot run her department. It's chaotic and disorganized. She refuses to hold anyone accountable for mistakes, and there are members on the team that clearly don't care about their job. She clearly doesn't care about more than a paycheque. If you care, you'll be overworked and stressed and always be given more tasks and responsibilities instead of being rewarded. Pay is very very low for the work expected of you. Many people join the lab for only a few months, to put on their resume and leave. And they leave being bad at their jobs, giving Central City an even worse name. The QC lab also has shift rotations that just don't make sense. You will get so much OT, so that may be a pro for people. Team members often hate each other but the manager does nothing to help this
The whole company needs to be restructured and needs to think about employees as more than just replaceable things. No company loyalty and bad management in all departments. 

Initially hired as electrical apprentice, but never did any electrical work.  Electrician on staff was always "too busy" with other tasks to train me in anything.  

I was expected to do all other work: run boiler (fortunately I had 4th class power engineering); welding (zero experience); repair machinery (zero access to technical manuals, because it was "confidential" until I passed probation; and work on production line when not busy.

This company enjoys violating numerous laws!  Upon burning myself on steam pipe, I was told "it's part of the job;" they did not want to put in insulation.  I was also expected to give free overtime on weekends to supervise construction crews (I never volunteered for this.)

Stingy company tried to demand I change my mobile phone number to a Vancouver-area number, because I was expected to make my personal mobile phone available for company purposes.  They only paid me $45,000 per year, which is NOT a livable wage in the BC Lower Mainland!

CCBD is in the process of rebuilding and reinvigorating it's brands all while working to bring new brands to market. With the new leadership team in place there is a new culture being created from the top down. The facility is large and there are many aspects to the business, co-packing, distilling, brewing, tasting room,  liquor stores etc... so keeping up to date on each arm of the business is a tall order. I'd say this is the most difficult part for myself.  The people I work with are incredible and I am fortunate to be learning from some very talented leaders. The culture is changing  and they are taking steps daily to ensure the culture is one that we can be proud of. I feel like I am on the ground floor of something incredibly special. Looking forward to the future with CCBD

Great platform to learn and work when busy.Management is very understanding and supportive.Absolutely agree with the previous reviews about some bad apple lazy team members who doesn't really care about their job and surf the web all day while you hustle to keep up with the daily workload.Its not uncommon to come across lazy co-worker, and they are not always easy to deal with.QC techs work in pair in every shift.if you are paired with slacker who doesn't pull their weights, glued to their phone ,focused on doing as little as(as easy as task) they can is more than just a routine frustration; it can also negatively affect your work and even your career.Lack of proper supervision motivates such coworkers to force other team members to pick up the slack.

Packaging workers are very nice ,hard working ,responsible and easy to work with.






There are a few perks: Good people, fun industry, free monthly beer allotment, occasional relaxed atmosphere outside of day shift.

Outside of those perks, there are very few redeeming factors in working here. Work is very much feast or famine; very little consistent production. Compensation is fine, but not enough to justify the unsociable hours, and raises weren't in line with inflation. Management is demanding, overbearing and directionless. The communication is non-existent and when you do hear about future plans it's through the grape vine and unreliable. Hours were reduced and/or cut at moment's notice, layoffs were longer than initially anticipated and there's little to know appreciation of employees on the production floor. Toxic culture.

This place is nothing but just stressful and toxic work environment. Employee turnover rate is very high. Employees are heavenly underpaid. Every other week, there would be someone who left. No wage increases at all. Annually increment is a JOKE! even though contract says so. Everything they say is a lie. Management is poorly managed. If you talk about the wage increases, they come up with weird ideas to not give you one. They make you work 5x more than job duties. At my time of working, not even a single employee was happy while working there. NOT EVEN ONE. Stay away from this place or they will take all your energy for literally for some cents!!!!!!!!!!!!

CCBD is a fast growing business with lots of energy. The management team is visionary and has purposely over built the facility when it first started to facilitate future growth. The company always look forward for the next big thing. The development and actualization of innovation is very fast here and management team skillset has increased significantly over the last few years. The company has commissioned a brand new high speed canning line with an enhanced quality system. 

The job culture can vary greatly depending on who is coming in and who is going out which happens to be extremely often. The only constant are the people that started the company. 

Depending what company changes are happening job security is good;  but room for advancement could be a 50/50 depending on what exactly the company is looking for. 

CCBD is a great place to learn about the industry but not a good place to stay as the culture has changed and changing company direction is not effectively communicated to staff. 

trust the reviews. I read them going in thinking it might be different. But it's not. Management is poor and un-supportive. Safety is questionable for a lot of things they ask. The nucleus of the group is okay with having you fail - which might be why they go thru  a lot of people. Just my guess. 
Unless you are absolutely the candidate they want for a position you wont last. Everyone there is connected thru former work relationships. Outsiders are temporary solutions - means to an end before you become disposable again. 

If you want some free beer between jobs then try this place out. But I wouldn't make working here top priority if you have other offers.


Craft beer lover ? Move on to something else. This has gone from a top tier working environment to a corporate contract facility. Staff turnover is the highest I've ever seen. Everyone is stressed. Management fumble contastanly . Schedule changes daily. Shift 
 change anytime they please which doesn't promote work /life balance. A lot of highschool drama from upper management cascading downwards.  Floor staff are friendly.Managers are ignorant, belittling and not to be trusted. Not a long term solution for job security. Pay isn't worth the overall stress. Corporate headache.
