Central Transport

Lead and manage a fast paced and high volume cross-border LTL operation. Direct the organization’s ongoing operations and activities toward the accomplishment of organizational goals while managing the cost. Define and recommend goals, develop specific short and long range plans. Lead and inspire a team of Managers, Dispatchers, Administration, Dock and Drivers to achieve company targets. Look to enhance or modify existing operational processes to improve on efficiencies. Provide KPI metrics and reporting in an accurate and timely manner. Provide communication, to Sales and other functional departments in a timely manner. Develop, implement and monitor quality control standards and procedures consistent with organization’s goals to exceed service targets. Direct the preparation of specifications for purchase of supplies and materials as to quality, quantity, delivery and service required. Ensure that employee training needs are identified and appropriate training provided. Ensure terminal operations comply with all legislation regarding transportation operations and complies with the corporate policies and safety regulations.

I worked at Central transport for 13 an a half years,  it was a good jod, that is were I got my mechanic lience, an as the car industry, became slowing southern Ontario they had too lay me off, so I had too mosey too another job . After Central transport I moved to Allied systems, the car haulers , an spent 9an a half years at Allied, an again, the fact that the car industry became slow , they too had too lay me off. Once that happened, I travel out to Bonneville Alberta, an worked out in the oil patch for three years an had too come back too Ontario over medical reasons. 

In this company an employee other than truck driving has to do a lot of things including scanning the load, measuring the load, loading, unloading, and most of the company's customers are tired of doing this, you get up at 8:30 am  You work up to 7 nights with all the work to do (include tax) pay for $ 180
This company has a deceptive performance that is not fair at all, and that it does not take into account your rights at lunch time, and most importantly when you return to the terminal, you have to get out of driving conditions and become working conditions.  That's not fair for paying your salaries, and in the end they give you a handheld device that's very old-fashioned and always bothering you. Don't go to work for this company.

The job expects too much of their staff with too little reward. The standards continuously increase drastically without warning, and the incentive is near impossible to achieve. The workplace is not pleasant due to gaslighting and heavy favouritism. Complaints are not handled in a time-conscious or effective manner. It is a high stress environment. They mistreat staff for calling in sick, do not take illnesses seriously and down play them, and guilt staff into working past their shift every night - making staff work 40 hours a week but will not give you full time benefits for full time work. 

Worst company I ever worked for. Tractors are fairly new, but trailers shouldn't even be on the road. If you take a day off for any reason, they use your vacation days in place of it. Write you up for the most frivolous things. Never know when your days gonna end because they will keep sending you pickups. On top of that you have to unload and scan all the skids off your trailer and scan and load them to the outbound trailer. Tell you when you can take vacations, because half there dates are blackout dates. Driver beware.

I learned how to audit the products, and about  transporting the materials in the right location. The hardest part of the job was sometimes lifting very heavy products. The co-workers and management were very friendly and helpful. The most enjoyable part of the job was speeding up to finish the task on time, before ending the shift.

Super fast pace rush rush unsafe environment.  Very dirty smelly site . Trash everywhere clean up chemical smells. No benefits.  Every day looks like Chinese fire drill with forklifts crashing in to each other constantly.  The forklifts are old faulty which results in a lot of spillage.  Which you have to pick up by hand and rewrap. Some items weigh 250 or more.  I was told to clean up toxic waste with a shovel and cat nip

The job starts out with 3 weeks of on-site training about the logistics billing process before you delve into the full job load, the bills come in quick and you must do at least 30 per hour, management was fair but strict, collaboration was frowned upon, production quotas were enforced, hardest part of the job was full billing but we did mostly bottom-billing. Most enjoyable part were the incentives for lack of mistakes.

The job itself is OK, you don't learn anything useful but make decent student money. The only issue is the schedule, it can be horrendous. They have us a heads up on the job posting and training that we would not be scheduled past 10pm, but 2 months after they started scheduling people to 1am (which as a student job was not at all going to work). 

Overall my with experience has been the best of all my previous experiences. There is a lot of flexibility in shifts that can be set up as per our school timing and location is well set up for a productive and efficient work balance.
