This company preaches a good sermon.  They send you on a two day orientation that gets you fired up and excited.  Smoke and mirrors.  The expectations are insurmountable and support is minimal.  There are some head office staff that spend a lot of time protecting themselves that they make work life stressful and difficult for others around them.
The care staff are amazing.  They provide A1 resident care and support and they are super friendly and kind to the residents.  They are also overworked and expected to fill shifts without question when short staffed which seems to be a lot. 
I have met some amazing people there, a number of which are no longer employed.
I was warned about taking a position with this company prior to getting a job.  I should have listened.  
I have been doing what I am doing for a very long time  - while I am not perfect, there is little understanding and support from management as to the logistics accomplishing certain tasks

In my many years working at Royal Oak Village for Christenson Communities, there was opportunity for advancement on site and I felt appreciated and respected by the residents, their families, external stakeholders and the vast majority of my co-workers. I was adequately compensated for the very demanding role I was in; be aware that some higher roles are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on-call. 

My final role in the company required me to work closely with top management at Head Office. I am very proud that I prioritized my values of integrity, senior safety and legal obligations over self-preservation.

Initially the company was wonderful to work for, the residents and the front-line employees were kind and supportive. Unfortunately it went down hill quickly. As part of the leadership team it became clear that the company expectations were not matched with adequate training and resources available. Very little support was offered from the highest level of the management team. This is a company who is looking for a "Yes" man. Constructive feedback and opinions for problem solving is of no value to the company. Management is treated as disposable objects, often fearing for their jobs. 
Work life balance is unfortunately one sided with expectations of often working outside office hours and being promised flex/in lieu of time; the in lieu of time never being re-payed as promised.

I have worked here for over 4 years and always felt supported. I started in an entry level position and found plenty of opportunities to assume more responsibilities. With new management at the very top and new hires to fill roles not considered in the past, the company has made solid progress in ensuring all departments are receiving the support they need. The diversity found at corporate office is inclusive and reassuring. Diversity among new management hires is progressive. Corporate staff are more visible on site than ever before, and hiring strategies with retention in mind are having a positive effect through all operating units. There is still much to work on and I feel reassured we have the right team to progressively move forward.

I was thrilled to work with this company... at first.  The residents were delightful and the aspect of working as a team with quality care providers was perfect for my personality and skills.  However, when management changed, the whole atmosphere and protocols changed.  In a very short time the environment went from one of expectation to one of dread.  No matter how much I gave as an employee it was never enough.  Overtime was not paid, we were forced to take time in lieu/flex time but the work schedule made it impossible to do that, so often I was working extra for free. The short story is, if it was only for the residents, this company was a joy, working with the management was extremely painful and unfulfilling.

Unionized company, great pay with flexibility in hours. Staff and residents are wonderful. There were hidden perks of the job that they didnt mention in the interview or job posts. A lot of autonomy in the rec department with programming. Not that much funding but you just need to be creative with low cost activities. I am sad to go! Im moving to another city otherwise i would have loved to stay. 

The hca and other staff and overworked but still supportive and friendly. My department was not...we have a lot of control in our work. This was one of my best work experiences.  The job is really rewarding! Highly recommend. Dont be scared by the other reviews.

Each communities are filled with fantastic, passionate and caring individuals.  They truly care for the residents and provides the best care for them.

Head Office on the other hand are all about themselves, who talks the big talk but doesn’t know how to execute and/or to deliver their own message.  Policies exists however, they are only used when it best suits them or how they are feeling in that moment.  They lack integrity and humility to lead a fantastic frontline team.  Instead of providing support, they expect the communities to support them instead as they claim they are busy. However, they find time to take a lot of “half-day Fridays”.

The leadership group in Rocky practice fear based management are bullies and dictators. They will scold you in front of your peers and residents, they have been known to make some of the female staff cry and it makes for a really bad culture. It does not matter which department you work in, you will be doing the job of at least two if not three people. You will feel pressure and stress every shift you work. There is a continuous revolving door of  employees coming and leaving. I lasted just over three months, the previous maintenance tech lasted three months and the one before lasted only a month. I would highly recommend to anyone not to apply for any position at this facility as I am sure you will have the same experience as me. 

Negatives: Disorganized company as the sites and properties operate as satellite operations from the head office. High employee turnover, below average wages for post secondary qualifications, little to no overtime pay, no on call standby pay, company also limps maintenance along with lean budgets, expectations that employees fill logistical gaps (transportation), company appears to be in a financial mess (2023).
Positives: Easy going work days, generally stress free, some of the infrastructure is older so you can stay busy, accommodating with personal life requirements, management and coworkers at all levels are easy to work with. 
Decent company to work for if you’re looking to take it easy for a bit. 

Recently Christenson Community went through some high level management change and it's made all the difference. From my experience Christenson Community is a positive place to work, I am encouraged with many learning opportunities across the company. We collaborate together as a whole with specialists/colleagues/staffs.   I receive a lot of appreciated gestures from Corporate office to our executive directors at our communities. We thrive on excellent service for the residents and family and friends that come to visit at our communities. One of the most enjoyable moments I have working with the warm and kind residents is sitting with them and listening to the stories.
