I regret to say that my experience with this company has been mostly negative. Sadly, favouritism seems to run deep, and opportunities for advancement are limited to those who are part of the “inner circle”. 

Further, upper management is not often open to accepting new ideas - they are quite satisfied with maintaining the status quo corporate culture from the early 2000’s. 

Also, the salary paid was below market rate, so keep this in mind should you wish to work here. You will get the minimum legal vacation entitlement. The company also offered little to no perks (aside from company-branded clothing and pizza lunches, of course), leaving employees feeling undervalued and unappreciated. 

Overall, I can not recommend this employer to anyone who seeks a fair and equitable workplace. You do get to work with some great people here, so that’s a plus. Your coworkers are friendly people who can brighten your day, but all it takes is poor management to ruin it. You will have little variation in your days, so if you enjoy waking up expecting to have an exciting work day, unfortunately this is not the place for you. 
This company is also NOT suitable for prospective employees wishing to work remotely.

Lax attitude and never following up on work references at interview stage, promise the world, deliver very little in return. Lightening speed in the turn over in staff and the lack of ability in the retention of good ones, all these are traits of the company. Promises of salary increases based on achieving a good result in their own University courses of self improvement connected with profitability, which always seem to be just out of reach year on year. Sending good staff to other branches makes for an unsteady branch ability to perform, constantly short of people to help increase sales and profit due to not enough staff to cope with the work load. Customers never seem to get to form relationships with staff, as the staff are never there long enough to make any real connection.
An underlying coercive nature exists where senior managers move or get rid of employees who have an opinion on how to drive the business forward. On the positive side, they train you well, and help the competition to increase their business profile when the employee leaves.

I worked at CES for a period of time and overall the experience was decent but had some downsides. The job itself is fairly straightforward if you are comfortable working in a warehouse and dealing with customers at the counter. Most days involve picking orders, stocking shelves, and helping contractors find electrical supplies.

One of the positives is that you can learn a lot about electrical materials and the industry if you put in the effort. The work environment is usually pretty relaxed compared to bigger corporate warehouses, and the job can be stable if you are reliable. Some coworkers were helpful and willing to answer questions.

However, the training can be limited and sometimes you are expected to figure things out on your own. The workload can also vary a lot depending on the day and staffing levels. At times it feels understaffed, which makes the day more stressful than it needs to be. Communication and organization could also be improved in some branches.

Overall it’s not a bad place to work if you want experience in electrical distribution or warehouse work, but it has areas that could definitely be improved.

Really poor staff retention rates causes great turnover of staff which leads to bad customer connections. The client does'nt know who they will be dealing with in the next month.
Staff are moved around like chess pieces at the district managers discretion. This causes dilution of great teams and creates a huge gap in morale.
The competition must love CES as they pick up well trained staff with all the required 'tools' for a low cost, as CES do not look after their employees by way of salary and bonus, its always an excuse, they have written volumes on this subject alone.

Poor work culture, typical macho construction environment. Sucking up to/  boot licking the foreman is rewarded far more than hardwork. Salary sucks, would have been willing to put up with it but wasnt learning anything. All the senior electrcians that dont need to be on the slab arent more experienced just the best at sucking up to the boss. They encourage people to work even though they are sick, this caused a covid outbreak on the job site with all trades being affected,  im certain was our fault

Easy enough job, once your on the road doing deliveries 

Or moving product in the yard or warehouse 


Management has no clue what it’s doing, keeps its head in the sand and tells employees they are to hit the door if they don’t like it 

There is family in the branch at different levels so there is lots of nepotism constantly making excuses for family members 

Management is extremely unprofessional and will not have your back 

Very clique and if your not in the club you’ll hate it 

The colleagues were generally nice and easy to work with, and the team atmosphere at a peer level was positive. Unfortunately, management was a major downside. Expectations frequently went far beyond what was outlined in the job description, with employees expected to handle responsibilities outside their role without proper support or recognition. Compensation was also poor compared to the workload and expectations. Overall, while the coworkers were good, weak management, unrealistic demands, and low pay significantly affected the experience.

On a typical day, managament believes it is not required to help out with basically anything inside the storefront.  Barely answers phones, even more rarely helps storefront, never picked tickets, all while complaining that the store front never was being helped by the overworked staff.  Followed with random absenses, no consistency of any kind from managers, and ZERO ability to spend time to learn and move upward, the average employee is left to feel both replaceable and too dependable to be left to finish their own tasks.  

The people at the branch level for the most part are great however, senior leadership does not provide a safe place to work that aligns with the Human Rights Code of Canada. There were inconsistencies with the strategic direction, a lack in risk management and minimal integrity with executives that used racialized stereotypes to discourage, demean and discriminate against employees. 

Pay rate is below norm.


This company offers you a chance to grow within and there is a lot of opportunities as they are growing fast. Pay is mid-low, however, supplemental pay can be great, depending on the branch you work at. Management between branches varies, upper management is decent. It is a fast paced environment that can be overwhelming at times. You are expected to go above and beyond your specific role at times as it is a small team environment.
