You always have to try & look busy. The locals are rightfully sensitive about how their tax dollars are being spent & will come up to you and voice their opinion.  It's a shop job. You can't trust anyone here. Some of the people are solid, many are mean & petty. They will bad mouth you the minute you are not in the room. Everything you say & do gets back to management, word for word. Be careful what you say.
Safety is a joke. 420 friendly...never any drug testing, which you need to be mindful of around heavy equipment. I never saw a Safety officer on site or where work was being done, or managers even.
It's a glorified dead end labour job. You will be on the end of a shovel, especially in the cemetery, which they dont tell you about in the interview.  Also, you have to flush sewer lines, so needs a strong stomach. Not much overtime, you barely make enough to survive after the union takes its share. The union won't be there for you, they just go along with HR & Management.  Benefits are ok. LGBTQ friendly.

Typical days for most employees consist of dealing with the public, which can sometimes be difficult, but it's also rewarding. 

The CAO and Human Resources go around to all of the Departments each month to discuss everything from job postings to staff wellness events, and everything in between. Employees are encouraged to bring ideas forward and each year there is an award given for "best staff suggestion". 

There is also a Training and Development Policy that will pay between 65 - 100% of the costs of courses/diplomas/degrees, etc. depending on the relevance to your job. You're required to sign a contract that states you'll work for the City for a calculated/specified number of years and if you fulfill that requirement, you won't have to pay any of the money back if you leave the City's employment.

A great Municipal Government, Had a lot of respect and praises doing my daily work from Council, Management, co-workers and our Patrons.
The hardest part of the job when I don't get to take coffee break or lunch during some projects.
The most enjoyable part is when I see the joy and happiness on the faces of our Patrons, Facilities users and the Public in general, when I accomplish a project.

The staff are extremely helpful at the City of Brooks. Specifically, management took the time to understand concerns of their employees and does their best to address them. Similarly, the staff are easy to work alongside with; everyone takes the time and effort to help each other out.

Moreover, the benefits package is extremely comprehensive. Also, there are lots of city events where employees can attend and meet new people. 

Overall, the City of Brooks is a great environment and culture to be a part of.

Management does not do things fairly for the employees.

Once you go out to work the environment is awesome. It is a friendly culture. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Training new employees. Running equipment of all kinds. Every day is different. Safety reports.

Great company with a wide age range in its work force. Great benefits and pay, and approachable hr staff. Lots of employee benefits for all. Fair interview process, and prompt response. Great work culture with lots of reinforcement and encouragement for bettering your skills.

I love that the city promotes a work-life balance so you can raise a family and have a full time job without feeling guilty.  They work hard to earn their employees trust by having regular communication/meetings. The staff are very friendly and it's a great atmosphere to work in! They have a great compensation package including benefits & a pension. I would recommend working with the City to my friends.

My boss is a dedicated and helpful person. She has allowed me to learn at my own pace and is very patient. My co-workers are fun and helpful. The hardest part of my job is dealing with the public. I enjoy reconciling accounts and following up on outstanding accounts.

The most enjoyable part of this job is meeting new people and being exposed to the diversity of the community. 
The job keeps you busy and there is always something new to learn. There are also great events to attend and the benefits package is unreal!

City of Brooks gave me the opportunity to learn about having a good work ethic, and the courage to step out of my comfort zone while facing new challenges in the work place.
