Worked 4 years, 10 months as a "Temporary" worker.
No sick leave, vacation pay equal to about 1 week per year, the union does nothing for you. 

The parks foreman is great, but is unfortunately the position is swamped by poor upper management and nepotism-driven hires as HR seems to control all of that and all their best friends get in.

They'll promise you a fulltime position, and hold it over your head. You can go above and beyond on every single thing you do, literally re-create the safety system as a temp "labourer" and they'll still throw you away like a used kleenex the moment you question their decisions.

Also as a temp, you have zero job security and are at the whims of paranoid schizophrenics that'd saw your arm off if they believed it had covid on it.

Management and leadership are not open to hearing concerns or feedback and addressing issues within the organization whether it is staff related or patron related 

Facilities are not set up to properly service the community and priority isn’t given to city run programs which causes headaches for booking spaces and establishing successful services 

The work culture is very poor and staff have given up on their visions and passions due to no support and simply collect a pay check. 

They are at least 10 years behind any other recreation department I have worked for and refuse to make the necessary changes to meet industry standards because they worry it will lead to complaints from long term patrons that have difficulty with change. 



Don't be fooled by their team fort sask mantra.  I spent well over a decade with this company and it's management and Administration has always said we re only worthy to be int 50th percentile pay range.  Then they expect top candidates to show up.  They'll suck the drive out of you and then let you fend for yourself once they used up.  Union is not of any value as the members are too scared to stand up.  These are the people the city prefers to keep hired. Robots.

Also they'll tell you they care about work life balance.  Only if your management.

There are well paid managers that simply shouldn't be in the position.  Brilliant with budgets and spreadsheets, but short tempered, abusive to staff, toxic. They cannot lead. Forget about mentorship.
 Public and staff are great to work with. The city has a lot to offer.
The work culture is very dependent on the manager. Know who you will be working for. There are some good people. Do your homework.

The friendly atmosphere yet professional.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
None-did not feel stressed on the work environment and we able to meet deadlines.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive and friendly. The  expectation was work independently and report problems as needed and progress weekly.

Minimal orientation or mentorship; expect you to know expectations without being told and no guidance on performance. Clicky and toxic. 
Was attracted to position because they advertise that they care about their employees, mental health and treating people with respect. This was not the case in the department I was employed in. 

Like working with a bunch of elementary  children. Clicky and very unprofessional. The City pool is the worst. Too bad people higher up can't see it or understand why the turnaround is so high. We are fortunate to have a pool, yes!! That is a positive.

I enjoyed working with the public from little kids to the seniors that came into our office.  I enjoyed problem solving and doing my best to get the answers required from operating the switchboard.  I also enjoyed the office that I worked in and the people I worked with.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan has an amazing team feeling when working for them. My time spent at the City of Fort Saskatchewan was fantastic. Always felt supported, appreciated and valued as an employee!

I can't speak to the other departments, however, the mechanic shop was an excellent work environment with amazing mentors and staff. Very understanding of life issues and an excellent work life balance.
