Great culture, great people, and a great work-life balance. Students can be taken advantage of, as they tend to work twice as hard as the full-time permanent employees. For STEM majors, this wage (17$/hr) is not at all competitive with other internships in the industry (20$/hr minimum). I really enjoy my job and feel like I’ve learned a lot, but I’m definitely doing a lot more than I’m being paid for. I will be going back to the private sector where the pay is more competitive, despite liking this job. 

I worked as a student hire in the parks and cemeteries sector. I worked with some really awesome lead hands as well as some incredibly incompetent leads. During my last summer of work I ended up with a lead hand who could barely do or remember anything, I basically ran the grass-cutting crew myself for a fraction of the pay. Supervisors were well aware of my feelings and didn't care. Other students, working outside and the rare compliments from the public made the job tolerable at best.

The work environment is toxic the only way to advance is who you know not what you know. The lazy get rewarded and the hard working one gets told slow down. The management would rather promote a riding buddy then someone with experience. The supervisors hand pick their favorite people for training. 14 years before I ever seen any type of training or courses other than the basic. Training for advancement os only offered to those who are in the buddy club. Don't waste your time. 

I currently work at the City and it's a nice environment if you can stay out of office politics. My interview consisted of an online test, written test and a one on one virtual interview.  The virtual interview conducted was unusual and almost bogus for such a large corporate company.  Was disappointed with the final interview process and I found it very confusing. It was more of an interview how you handle stress rather then testing your skills.

I loved this job! Not because of the management, which was disorganized but nice, but because it was incredibly easy and such a nice work environment. I worked alone and was responsible for everything, but the job is such a mess, doing the bare minimum is better than most! I got all my homework done at work and had a blast talking to the community. Great for a high school student that loves to socialize and make easy money! Also set shifts are great.

First two weeks training on formula on excel
Dealing with huge data and manipulating the government technology
Supportive and comfortable as long as my manger available
Friendly work place with giving space  for all employees

There is minimal support and training received. Onboarding is non-existent. Most of the workers are lazy. If you work good, they will assign extra work to you, 'performance punishment' Environment is negative and disrespectful including leaders. Policies don't exist or are not followed and no double-standards

Gained plenty of knowledge about different public sectors within the City of Hamilton. Supervisors relied on my shift to respond immediately and effectively to any public calls after hours. The responsibility that was given made the job very rewarding.
