I enjoyed getting up in the morning and going to work. I didn't always know what my day to day assignment would be but often it would be diversified. I could be repairing roads one day or hauling material another. I definitely learned to operate various pieces of equipment proficiently. Management did their jobs well in my opinion, but not without a lot of friction from many employees for whatever reasons. Certainly the moral was in need of a boost. The hardest part of the job for me was working as productively as I could while watching other employees texting or just sitting idle. Probably the most rewarding part of my job was accomplishing the task assigned and going home knowing,  I had done my best that day.

I work at Pioneer Ridge and I cannot say enough great things about every aspect there. Over the past 11 years, I have worked at St Joseph's Care Group, Revera, and the City. All of which as a PSW. I never felt a sense of pride in my work or felt like I belonged. At Pioneer Ridge, it has changed my outlook on my job. I feel included in my team. I feel appreciated. My manager is very approachable and includes the team in decisions. Everyone that works there is so happy. I leave work every single day, no matter how busy or tired, with a smile on my face, knowing I did my best and feeling amazing. Thank you, City of Thunder Bay (Pioneer Ridge)

The City of Thunder Bay is a great employer and I enjoyed work on a daily basis while I was under a long contract. Working with children was challenging and very rewarding at the same time. It was nice to be able to show parents that the place they entrusted their children to was safe and educational yet fun and memorable at the same time.

Management was very understanding and I don't have anything negative to say on that regard. It was a fair and rewarding place to work every single day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The staff and the MLEO officers.  A great group of people to bad no leadership 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of support from the leaders. There are no unionized supervisors, so management will protect their own 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Staff is great very fun. The issue is the training is nil, and the next level supervisor either doesn't know what they are doing or doesn't care. No staff support

If you can live with milking the tax payers for all your overtime this would be a good job for you. And the gossip. Worse than high school. Don’t expect to be rewarded with hard work. Hiring is seniority based. If you wait long enough, like 6+ years you’ll be full time. Perfect job for a newly grad. But don’t expect to leave the city to work in the real world and bring your experience with you.

Typical day in work would be getting the residents up for the day, washing, dressing and feeding the residents. Also giving baths/showers to the residents. The hardest part of the job is getting attached to the residents and having they passing away. The most enjoyable part of the job would be how its rewarding caring for the elders

Arrive at work, go through tailgate safety meeting discussing days overview, load the truck need for the crews daily tasks. Once this is completed we were drive to destination of the tasks at hand and complete. Crews were active and worked together, got a long great with fellow employees, great management and lead hands. Crew was like family and made the job more satisfying as friends.

Working here was a fulfillment of my work placement semester while studying at the city's community College, unfortunately it was mostly unpaid work but the experiences gained and certifications obtained through the 4-month were crucial in any possible advancement with the Health and Safety industry. Glad i was chosen to Intern at the City's Corporate Safety Department.

very manipulative management, would not tell me how I was performing or what needed to be improved even when asked. was not given a fair chance. 

learned a decent amount, a good routine, nice coworkers, and decent job satisfaction.

would not recommend it unless management changes. 

if you have the opportunity to get into the Rec & Culture division at City of Thunder Bay… do it! such a laid back job, very flexible, you get to sign up for your shifts using an app. Sometimes the work sucks if you don’t like cleaning but if you don’t mind then it’s great!
