Hours are insane and pay is bad. Expected to work 12 plus hours 6 days a week, few people making above minimum wage. Jobs are poorly planned and never have enough resources allocated to them. Management consistently puts blame for their mistakes on new employees. Vulnerable groups are targeted for hiring. Little to no useful training is given. Workers are not expected to be able to last long in the environment but no effort is made to improve it, then consistently the management complains about being understaffed. For perspective, if a current employee gets someone to apply to work for classic, they get a bonus if the person lasts till the end of the week. That’s the expectation. Very very few workers return past one season. 

Resulting from jobs being poorly planned, there is often a large amount of time spent with many workers repeatedly doing unnecessary tasks to appear busy, as they have not been given any instructions but will be berated by management if they do not appear busy, explanation given for the harsh treatment is that it looks bad if outsiders see employees not doing anything. If any suggestion is made by lower level employees as to how to more efficiently do the job these suggestions are disregarded and occasionally mocked for not understanding what is happening. 

Overall a decent place to work with a pretty good atmosphere in general.

Always get any time off you want approved 
Lots of overtime throughout the summer
Even though it can be very fast paced at times it's still a fairly relaxed environment

Best thing is probably the people you work with, always a positive environment between the crews and drivers
Negatives:
Management doesn't always listen to/care about your concerns, or they do listen but nothing ever comes of it.
Very disorganized in general, half the time you'll get out to a site to do something only to find out someone else has already done it so you drove there for nothing.
Majority of the trucks are getting pretty dated and almost none of them have working AC in the summer anymore to which they won't fix
Pay could be better but overall isn't terrible

Worked here for many years now and can say overall it's a good place to work with good friendly people you work with too

The best thing about working here is your coworkers, they are the only thing that will get you through the day. You work about 10-12 hours everyday, Monday through Saturday. Previous years the training was more satisfactory (Actually being passed off on certain equipment before being allowed to use it with no supervision) however this summer it was way way understaffed (probably due to covid) so they have no care for proper training and throw you to the wolves to figure it out for yourself. The management are "nice people" but being nice isn't enough, the safety and well being of your staff needs to come before anything else. Every single person who works here is burnt out and miserable. Doesn't pay "Crew Leads" anywhere near enough for the amount of responsibility they have and stress they are put through on a day to day basis. Good luck next season.

poor place to work. going above and beyond doesnt get recognition .  managment are always scrambling. anyone who is worth something have all left for better opportunities because this company cannot keep people satisfied enough to stay. this is a step stone company for you to learn the little bit they can teach you. you have to beg to get a raise. starting pay here is trash. every single other company worth working for in edmonton will have a much better starting pay with better incentives to enjoy. this company has gotten less and less work given to them every year i spent there. their margins are so horrible so you are given bare minim equipment and people to complete tasks in non reasonable amounts of time.
if you have landscape experience or operating experience this is not the place if you want to make money. or climb the ladder for better opportunities

You show up, get your assignment for the day and go out to each site with a crew. You do your job and then you go home. 

Your crew becomes your family, you work with them every day. 

Management seems distant, no real relationship or good communication between them and the workers. 

Some managers do really care and you can build a good relationship with them but its rare. 

If you aren't looking for friends, want to come to work, put your head down and just work to make money, this is the place for you.

If you are wanting a fun work environment to just make friends and get recognition and a good work place "vibe" where and get to know your managers, this is not the place for you.

You definitely learn how to manage your time wisely and think about how to work smarter and not harder. The days are long, but it goes by fast if you keep working hard all day. The crew leaders are great guys to work with, they will work you like a dog but it helps you learn to work hard and keep going even when you're frustrated/tired. Hardest part of the job is either the constant tension on your back (from picking up and laying down sod/pavers) , or the long hot days (when it gets above 30 degrees). Have lots of water and snacks with you as your will become both hungry and dehydrated throughout the day.

I worked at Classic for 4 seasons. They treat their staff as disposable, and there are absolutely zero benefits. They will try to make you purchase any and all PPE rather than provide it to you. Each season when I went back it I had to argue with the owners for any sort of pay raise. I was frequently and regularly told that I am paid you are paid what worth. Then I found out that there where a number of people that were not allowed to operate machines or do anything basically making 5-6$ more an hr than me (I worked as a machine operater, and a crew lead). The only reason I didn't give everything about this company 0 stars was I spent time at the tree farm, and the manager at the tree farm is outstanding! Everything else about the company is horrible.

I found the treatment I received from the ownership to be unacceptable. They dint tell you you’re starting later in the day until you are already at work. Or sometimes they even didn’t tell you you were not working that day until you pull up to the shop. Then they complain if they feel that you are wasting their time. Heaven forbid if there is an incident of any sort. You are pulled into a room with the owners where they spent the whole meeting trying to lay the blame solely on you. When you stand up for yourself they really treat you poorly. The other drivers and workers were very good to work with though. 

Worked here for many summers.  Recognized for my hard work and reliability - advanced quickly.  Was able to make it though 4 years of post secondary education without going into debt.  I always felt Classic was looking for good, honest, hard work.  You will be recognized and compensated for such.  Management is busy and focused but ALWAYS had an open door policy for their growing work force.  Great experience.
