Cleveland Clinic is one of the worst companies I’ve ever worked for. The clinic is a great place to learn and it’s great to have on your resume because they’re very reputable however if you start the job completely sane, you will leave with some kind of anxiety or mental issue. 

The values that they claim to have are nonexistent. They are not empathetic about anything. The staff does not work as a team, there is no inclusion in the workplace and the environment is toxic and unhealthy to work in! The CEO tries to send positive weekly messages or videos, but has no interest in actually addressing what’s actually going on in the clinic. 

The management at the clinic (both downtown and midtown) is highly incompetent. They have no managerial training and DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEIR EMPLOYEES!!! If you are not one of their favourites, they will most definitely let you know you are not liked by speaking to you condescendingly, ignoring you when they walk into a room or just straight up firing you. No matter how many years you’ve put in or how much work you do on a daily basis, they do not care. They do not thoroughly train their staff. They through into all the madness and expect you to know what you’re doing. They overwork their employees by not hiring staff in a timely manner after others have quit or been fired and offer little to no support when you ask for help. 

The doctors (except for 3 or 4) have no respect for the front desk staff or their personal admin assistants. They are unappreciative of the work that is done for them. They complain about everything and offer no solution to the problems that arise in the clinic. The lead physician does not inform his team of physician about policies and procedures that are put in place resulting in all the doctors doing different things making it challenging to keep up with their daily wants and needs. 

The clinic is very money hungry. Physician appointments are covered by OHIP but all they seem to care about is referring to physiotherapy or to the chiropractor whether or not the patients need it in order to increase the sales. The patient’s care is not their number one priority!

There isn’t much room to grow at the Midtown location but lots of opportunities at the Downtown location. But again, if you are not a favourite, chances are you’ll be told “there’s someone more qualified that we are offering the position to”

The pay they offer is ok but for the amount of work that you have to do, they should definitely revisit the amount they offer. They also only pay on the 15th and 30th or 31st of the month which is not convenient for most. The benefits are decent. Most services are covered at a decent percent and it’s easy to submit the claims and quick to get reimbursed. 

Overall you can learn a lot working at Cleveland clinic however it is not a forever job! Get in and get out. Do not involve yourself in the negativity and the drama in the office because it will stress you out! Do what you can for the day and do not overwork because they will take full advantage! Be sure to set your work/life balance boundaries because they will contact you all hours that you are not in office! 

The Cleveland Clinic brand is well respected across the regions of operations such as the USA, Canada, England and Abu Dhabi so for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, this is an excellent company to have on your resumé. However, the Canadian operation is poorly managed and the turnover of the qualified people is pretty high.

To begin, most of the executive team lacks the necessary qualifications and experience for their positions. Some don’t even have an undergraduate degree but yet hold positions such as Directors and VPs even without previous healthcare experience. Yet, the qualified individuals stay at the bottom of the corporate ladder and any suggestions proposed to management to improve operations go unheard, perhaps because these managers lack the vision and skills to understand what is necessary to revolutionize operations. 

Salaries and benefits are minimal. The company boasts of great benefits upon joining the team but in reality, the benefits are below average compared to many other companies. Employees are required to pay 30% of the healthcare benefits, the maximum RRSP match is 3% and there is 15 vacation days per year. Don’t expect any bonuses, full healthcare benefits, LTD or Life Insurance, pensions, spending allowances, etc. In addition, education allowance is only $500 per year so it indicates that the company really isn’t interested in continuous learning and development and perhaps, that’s why managers lack the necessary skills. Also, you’re lucky if you get a 2% salary increase on an annual basis.

In essence, if you have other opportunities, Cleveland Clinic Canada may not be the best option if you are skilled and experienced. It’s a great place for persons who need a job without any experience but don’t expect much progression here. 

Okay opportunity in the sense that there’s always patients with diverse clinical needs (though diversity of actual patients is limited due to private practice). Thoroughly enjoyed clinical experience and care of most patients. There’s always opportunity to take on extra workload (though getting pay for the time it may take for the workload is another story). Looks okay on a resume for the name/brand, so if it’s for you, go in open-minded, don’t fall for empty promises- when it’s time to start looking elsewhere just do it without wasting your time on meetings trying to express/convey concerns. Very much felt like a broken tiered management system. Manager notably unprofessional/inappropriate in talking to some patients and colleagues. If you’ve ever provided process improvement, valid feedback, patient results and satisfaction- it won’t matter, you won’t be retained and don’t have a chip to bargain with. Keep your head down and work until what they provide you with is not enough, then move on in silence.

Access to health care is the biggest plus along with the name of the company behind you.  The job culture is very supportive in terms of having access to health care providers and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people.  The hardest part of the job is not having a consistent role or collaborative managers. Everyone is expected to know and work several different positions to cover others when sick or on holidays. When you are absent due to illness, you must find your own coverage.  Managers delegate without really recognizing the details of the roles of their subordinates nor the time it takes for tasks to be completed.  To have a different opinion is labelled as “not a team player”.

Maintained and organized patient records, charts and information to facilitate easy access and retrieval for staff and department
 
Provided a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for all patients
Provided caring and empathetic support

Pay is below average and management is sub par. The company boasts of its “world class” health care but most staff are new because no one sticks around long enough to be 100% competent. There is no growth potential in this company unless you are friends with people higher up than you. They dont take into consideration previous work experiences when promoting someone. They also do not invest in keeping their staff as I have seen multiple people be let go. They would much rather hire new people than keep the staff they have. 

Overall, cleveland clinic is an okay place to work at least to have it on your resume. But it is not a place that you would want to call a “forever “ job

I started my journey at Cleveland Clinic about 4 years ago as an RN, and it has truly been an incredible experience. Over the years, I’ve had ample opportunities for growth and leadership development, which has been incredibly rewarding. The culture here is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive and everyone across different teams is always willing to lend a hand. This collaborative and friendly environment is the main reason I’ve stayed with the organization, and I plan to continue my career here. It’s a place where you can thrive both personally and professionally, and I’m grateful to be part of such an amazing team.

Cleveland Clinic Canada is a great place to work. From my experience, this is a workplace that really cares about you as a person. From day 1 I felt accepted and comfortable. I was able to quickly bring my ideas to the table and my manger was 100% open to me making the changes I needed to work efficiently. Across the organization,  I have not yet met one person who isn't kind. Walking in the hals, everyone has a smile, says hello, and will engage is some conversation.

Scheduling and coordinating patients day of care.
Providing preparation instructions to patients.
Explaining program and clinic services.
Administrative work such as memos, correspondence, and special projects.
Reporting on daily, monthly and annual activities. 

Business Development team was great!
