Cobs Bakery

I did majority of my shifts during the mid-day, which was between 9am-5pm. I enjoyed every moment of it. The day usual starts by making sure that the all the products are out on display in addition, that it looks appealing to the eye. Moreover, this is the shift where you get to interact with the customers and sell the products which were the different types of bread, savory and sweet items. The work environment was lovely everyone was so great to work with. I guess because of the great aroma of bread in the air it was hard not to always be in a good upbeat mood. Aside from interact with customers, talking with co-workers and listening to great music play on in the background, getting take home any bread, sweet or savory product home to try or allow my family or friends to try was the best part of working at Cobs Bakery, I miss it.

A typical day at cobs would depend on the shift your working a morning shift would include setting up cleaning handeling food and cleaning closing shifts were more prodoction end of day count cleaning and locking up the bakery. The main compoments of the job were selling, customer service and dealing with money. The staff there are amazing and friendly, the become like family and that is definantly one of the benifits. I found a bit of disconnection between employees and managment allthough they were great owners there was many different views on how things should be done and that tension can be stressful.

While working at Cobs a typical day included merchandising displays, preparing dough for the next day baking, and cleaning all the whole store to keep it up to food safe standards. During this job, I learned how to clean properly, as well as how to properly lift heavy racks, and learned recipes and time efficiency skills. The management at Cob's location I worked was unfriendly and unwilling to accommodate a busy school schedule. The hardest part of the job was lifting large amounts of bread that were very heavy. The community environment and working with the charities was definitely the highlight of the job. Through this job, you are able to meet a wide variety of people.

There is opportunity to train and  advance.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The learning curve is steep, expectations are high, and the social climate can be toxic and divisive.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It will vary from location to location (I understand from others whom have moved on from the location I was in).  High pace production line work, turn over and unfilled positions will often push expectations of availability and work output to high stress levels.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
in before 4 am, production of the full line of goods daily, fast pace til the end.

I was responsible for the following:
• Responsible for customer service tasks, such as operating and locking up the cash register
• Provided sales telephone customer service support
• Based on customer needs, suggested products based on knowledge of baked goods
• Created effective presentation and displays for baked goods and merchandise 

I learned a lot about customer service and how it is important to become familiar with your customers so they feel comfortable and keep coming back to your company. 

My co-workers were mostly students, except for management. I knew a lot of them from school, so it was fun.

Most enjoyable part of the job was interacting with customers and giving them suggestions on what product was best suited for their need.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Baking products including bread. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s really bad culture. Unfortunately they use workers to make everything instead of their duties which they put in the contract. 
You have to ask for everything like restocking needs or the supplies for work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was super stressful. You have a lot of tasks to do. Not talking about taking care of the customers.

Depending on what shift, your day is going to be filled with customers. This Cobs is one of the busiest in Canada. A morning shift you have to deal with the baked goods, coming out and you have to find space for them on the limited racks. Mornings are extra busy but time files by. The evening shifts can be busy as well, around dinner time. At the same time you have to close up the bakery which includes cleaning and reorganizing the bakery for the next day.

As a baker, your daily tasks are repetitive, but rewarding. 
Managers are very appreciative of hard work and dedication.
its the kind of job that doesn't have scheduled breaks. Getting the work done accurately and on-time are the most important goals.

Cobs bread in Penticton is an awesome place to work; the owner and manager are wonderful people.  All of the employees are nice. The work is, for the most part, quite easy. It can get boring at times, but we are given opportunities to take on more responsibilities and learn new skills. 

A typical day at the bakery would include prep of sales staff and bakers. Insuring that all products are out on sales floor. I like giving all staff a pep talk before their shifts start. This increases moral and it is fun for staff and for me. There is nothing like laughter to get and keep people motivated!
