Coco Paving

I got hired just on a call and got directly invited to do the paperwork.

The reason for this was they needed someone to start immediately, as this job asks for completion of a degree or certificate which is not true.
They will hire anyone who is ready to work even without a degree, and no one really stays at COCO Paving OTTAWA that is why you will see an ad every 2 months for technicians. LOOK BELOW I've EXPOSED entire quality department and why you shouldn't even apply.

For this title they hire anyone with or without experience for example a young guy from high school will get hired easily because his uncle works there, think before you apply as this type of employees will be your colleagues and especially it is unfair to people if they have completed their education in this field or received a degree for it.

The supervisor of the LAB only hires you to do the dirty work and which has no direct relation to the job description. Also, at this location there is one other individual who works prior to no experience in the field since past 10 years, clearly looks like a labor and has no professionalism how to train new graduates, i am talking about both of them.
FOR EXAMPLE- you will be driving 50 km just to deliver empty boxes(this is no field job, only dirty work). I can explain many other.

On the daily bases these two individuals who run the lab since past decade would sit at the lab peacefully enjoy breakfast, lunch and smoke cigarettes continuously while you will be sampling in the outskirts and also after that the TECHNICIAN will drive back to the lab to deliver the samples and again drive back to the construction site, while they sit at the lab.

Also, no health and safety procedures are followed, in the lab itself they don't follow any safe protocols i had several incidents that were very dangerous but the LAB Supervisor didn't even took care to note it down.

The VEHICLES they provide are literally garbage, trucks and vans are really very filthy in which anyone openly smokes. Also, all this vehicles have TRANSMISSION, AIR BAG, SERVICE DOOR, ENGINE LIGHT issues. Which is very serious as if anything has to happen that is on your driving record because eventually you will be driving it.

Their quality sampling involves tasks where most of the time you will be taking orders from the CONSTRUCTION LABORS, such as ROLLER guys who will only compact really well where you are sampling that's a big criminal activity which is breaking the contract and risking people's lives.

NO FIXED HOURS of working, the lab Supervisor will be texting you in the evening everyday if you are starting at 5 or 6 in the morning and usually end time is not fix nor the start time. They know all timings but won't share all the details.

ALSO, this is a seasonal job only and they even will give you an OFFER LETTER which says seasonal and trust me it is really hard to get the Offer Letter, as the LAB Supervisor will not even let you contact the HR DEPARTMENT.

LASTLY, stay away from them really there is nothing to learn people here quit within a month or two. AGAIN this is not an ideal place for individuals who graduated from COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY.  THIS IS REALLY A LOW END LABOR JOB !!!!! BEWARE !


I have a great experience about field. We met new people every day. I got chances to met engineers and discuss about major projects. Moreover, if there are opportunities for higher position, they always prefer people who are already working there. That's why, there high chances of promotions. They always get big projects including MTOs job.
Additionally, i really appreciate their medical benefits plan. Employe need to work at-least 1200 hours to get these benefits which is not bad. 
In addition, as far as wages concerned, they increase the wages according to your performances. So aa you work hard, you will get paid nicely. 
Overall, i have good experience for working here.

Great team environment. Unerstanding how project schedule is executed. Proper documentation filing and organiztion. Hardest part would be sering how a project fully comes together you know the little details that always pertains to a job. Co-workers werer good, very helpful and knowledgeable. Gained some experience in blue print overview, setting a job tender with figures, ensuriung important insurances are obtain and ready, team meetings and site meetings.

They treated me great and kept me busy the whole season.

I didn't find anything stressful while working for Coco. The supervisors treated me with the utmost respect.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The environment and culture were great. I have no complaints working for Coco.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Never an issue.

The new company GIP sucks if you need to pay your bills don't come here!

Struggling for hours! Management bS

Horrible, everyone is two faced can't work with one another. Everyone strives to be the boss! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
unpredictable no set hours management is horrible. They fail to pay contractors

You are replaceable which is like any other company but you are made to not forget that little tidbit with management reminding everyone constantly. They were way behind the contract timeline  and management was definitely frayed around the edges and passed on that bad attitude so that culture of mistrust and cavalier outlook on whole job. You will be used and discarded like any old piece of refuse.

The trucks are all too old, Being a T3 Mechanic and seeing the antiques that they expect you to operate in emergency weathers is shocking at best. Expected to have to crank start like an old model T. Expected me to live off 15 hours a week and they gave hours to young people whom needed the training. I worked two seasons at Kanata 79 Ferrovial Services and as bad as it was at times, I'd rather work for Ferrovial  Services again than ever return at Coco paving.

working at COCO was definitely an eye opener on where I do not want to work again. The workers an management there are horrible people, they do not do any training and if you do not know something in which you were doing they do not show you they judge you. I do not recommend anyone I know to work here they do things against code and they don't care who knows it. if you are in it just for the money then great but I look for the environment also.

I learned how roads are constructed, everything from granulars to the different types of asphalt used.
Management was well organized and understanding.
Everyone employed there always had a great sense of humor, and helped keep moral at its highest possible.
Hardest part of the job was having a presence in the various different job sites within a 2 hour radius.
Most enjoyable part of the job was the ever changing working environment.

The days are really long but overtime is paid which is great. I learned a lot about paving and other areas of construction as well as how to run heavy machinery. The co workers are great and they enjoy the sense of production. The sense of pride when you see the end result.
The hardest part of the job was the long hours. The most enjoyable part of the job was the sense of accomplishment and the great pay.
