When I first started this job, I had originally started at an entry level position of fetching the garbage bins and riding in a garbage truck all day. One of the major goals I wanted to achieve was to get a sales position within the company as I have always considered myself a much more outgoing people person. I honestly believed I would be able to contribute and enjoy my career more and I told the district manager as such. The manager was open and honest with me and told me the truth - I just did not have the knowledge of the business or the experience on the field in order to present and sell our business and services at that time. However, over the years that I have been with this company I moved further towards my goal, learning everything I could and eventually pushing to become a part of the Dispatch team. After working within this new department and getting to know the ins and outs of our systems and pricing formulas I was once again offered a new position - An Account Manager within the sales branch just as I had originally asked for. A lot of businesses say they promote and train within, but some never do. Take my situation as living proof that this is true with Collective Waste Solutions when you bring the positivity and the want to succeed, you do. Over the years of learning the business I developed friendships with the drivers, customers, supervisors and even the management team. Even when we do not see eye to eye, we manage to pull together as a team and make every situation I have encountered so far work out for everybody. From the long days of beginning at this company all the way to the amazing people and experiences I get to be a part of now, I can safely say all the hard work has been worth it as one of the best perks in my position are some of the people I get to talk with. It can range from some of the most successful company figureheads to somebody just opening their very first shop with their life partner. From the sweetest happiest moments to the most professional tense ones, I always find myself in new situations that keeps the day from getting dull. However, with every company there will be days that you wish you could just sleep the day away. But something I love about this place is that if you put in the effort to just try and smile and be positive the people you're around seem to make the day just that much brighter even if you don’t want them too. They just find a way to make you crack a smile or laugh. I am not sure what else I could possibly write to describe this place except that if you are looking for something besides the day-to-day experience then look no further as every day seems to differ then the last. That might not be everybody’s thing, but I like to think that if every day is a new experience or new technical problem you need to figure out then it will never get boring.

A typical day at work involved unclear priorities, shifting expectations, and limited guidance on what needed to be accomplished. Tasks frequently changed without explanation, which made it difficult to plan or feel productive. I often found myself seeking clarification that never arrived or receiving conflicting direction from different supervisors.

What I learned was mostly how to adapt to last-minute changes, though not in a way that felt constructive or sustainable. Management rarely provided context for decisions, and communication tended to come only when something had already gone wrong. Attempts to ask questions or offer suggestions were often dismissed or ignored, creating an environment where employees didn’t feel heard.

The workplace culture was defined by inconsistency-policies were applied differently depending on the day or who was involved. This made it challenging to understand expectations or feel like standards were being followed fairly.

The hardest part of the job was the lack of structure. Deadlines appeared abruptly, priorities shifted suddenly, and staff were often left to figure things out with minimal information. It created unnecessary stress and left many people feeling unsupported.

The most enjoyable part of the job was simply when the day ended feeling like you had managed to get through it despite the challenges, rather than because the work environment helped you succeed.

My role in administration allows a large degree of autonomy which I really enjoy. I was introduced to my typical job functions, day-to-day duties, and additional tasks, and am allowed the space to work on them as I see fit, as long as they are completed accurately and on time.
The initial training process lacked a bit, but my supervisor was willing and able to answer any questions, and I know they have worked to improve this process since.
My Supervisor and Senior Management both provided opportunities for me to advance my role in the company as well as additional training in my fields of interest.
The company's smaller size means it's easier to communicate directly with senior management, making it easier to communicate complaints, improvements and feedback.

Specific to Corporate/Admin/Office/Lower Management: 
You must be self-aware and be able to effectively manage your own work with Collective. This is not a working environment for people who need constant, direct guidance. For people who prefer an autonomous working environment, this is great. For people who need consistent direction and 'hand-holding', this may not be the place for you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
You mostly work alone on the road. Great for individuals who like independent work and are good with task management.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Your day will consistently change. Dispatch will not be able to always provide accurate if information which can really affect a drivers day. The responsibilities of this and blame often get shifted to the drivers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I would say the environment is very unprofessional as individuals of higher positions always expect more out of their employees. You work hard it is often overlooked and you are given more work. I found individuals did not conduct themselves professionally and you were often penalized for simple mistakes that others were given grace for. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very hectic. The beginning of your day starts with inspections and FHLAS. The basics. However once on the road your routes are ever changing you must text dispatch when you’re finished so they can okay you going home if all work if completed. If you have issues on the road; dispatch isn’t there to support you as they have no idea mostly of what you’re experiencing or what’s occurring.

You know looking back it was great challenge for a 4th year apprentice mechanic. I was use to working on new and clean equipment but this place gave me the challenge of fixing older equipment and learning from there more experienced techs. It taught me a lot about patience and persistence. It wasn’t all good as management could be tricky at times and the operation manger could be interesting (in a good way) but over all the general attitude and atmosphere was pretty fun. A lot of joking around and pretty laid back. The lead hand is super knowledgeable and a top notch tech as well as the fleet manager. I wanted to move on to bigger and badder equipment but to any tech looking at this postilion don’t let the waste industry scare you off, yes it can be a little smelly at first but it’s the most stable industry you’ll work in because garbage never sleeps and doesn’t take vacations and your very well compensated with a higher then average wage and OT if your into it… as well as a very good tool allowance,boot and gas allowance. I would recommend this place highly for a HD mechanic or apprentice.

Work until all daily maps are done.
This is the daily routine, for an Operator &/or Swamper.
Now for another routine & as per the usual common denominator, management made the day more difficult than it needed to be. 
Different forms of misconduct/harassment we’re ongoing & only somewhat addressed, when Supervisor’s weren't guilty of similar accusations…themselves!
Do the job & don't express individual thought, even when asked. This may unintentionally make superiors look inferior, through complacent ignorance.
Daily commitments of ready, willing & able successful duties can be acknowledged with random termination, without cause.
Therefore, don’t get blindsided by ignoring any inward warnings as wolves in sheep’s clothing, might stand among you!
From start to finish, just a trashy environment of No Respect! - No Loyalty! - No Accountability! - Just Betrayal!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company culture, there was a lot of emphasis on team work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
On occasion there would be miss communications between drivers and management where there was significant more work than previously communicated. Day lengths were also inconsistent so it was hard to plan around work

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very positive, overall. 
Management put a lot of emphasis on team work. Sometimes management was too nice and workers wouldn’t fear consequences to their actions.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive at 6:00, safety meeting at 6:15, drive to the beat, start picking garbage at 7:00. Breaks were determined by swampers and communicated to the drivers. You would work till every thing was done.

Worked for this company for a time, then out of nowhere was terminated. I suspect it had something to do with two trucks going down within two days of each other. Since I was the operator of both vehicles when the issues occurred, they must of felt like it was my fault somehow. Did a proper pretrip both times and all fluid and oil levels were good. I don't believe they have a proper proactive maintenance schedule for their vehicles. I think they were more reactive in nature. Wait for something serious enough to go wrong and then spend a week or two trying to repair the truck rather than doing proper general maintenance. Would not recommend working for this company.

Waking up early (12:30am) I'm the first person to arrive at work. I start my day by pre trip my truck and do morning paperwork. When ready, I head to my first call. Once truck is full, I head to landfill. Con't until done. End of my day, I do post trip and complete Paperwork. I talk to management about any concerns. The hardest part about this job is other people, you have to have your head on a swivel at all times. I enjoy driving a garbage truck. Most people wouldn't understand what a privilege it is to operate a garbage truck! I also like working alone. Finally, I take great pride at my job. If customers and management is happy...That makes me HAPPY!!
