Typical temporary or seasonal gigs. Do not expect any kind of long term job security or advancement. Yearly in house training sessions. Guards are ranked by military grades ex: private, sergent, captain ect.. Vacations and assignments given by seniority. Poor work-family conciliation. Having kids or a life outside work is frowned upon.

Guards are sent as sub contractors in regular businesses to avoid the company having to hire you but, you are treated like regular employee. Pay is a bit higher than expected but, guards always get the worse assignments that no other worker or department wants. Your likely to be assigned during an odd schedule pretty much anywhere where dangerous incidents may happen or have happened without always being told about the dangers but, expected to prevent and anticipate them.

Regular staff always try to blame guards whenever anything goes wrong. No room for advancement. Management expects you to find innovative ways to manage your own area while they are busy doing only meetings and supervision.

Some coworkers will throw you under the bus over anything. Management will like you as long as you are looking good, act ignorant and don't disturb them for any reason. When they come see how you are doing your work it usually means your in trouble. If you or a coworker messes up or angers manager usually you or the entire team gets punished. Teamwork & collaboration with other departments required to succeed.

Typical day of work is about doing patrols, watch security camera, control access to the building, etc. Tasks can differ from positions.

I learned mostly what I needed during my formations. Management lacks of communication and proper organization.

The workplace culture is often whiny. Old people mostly tired of having a slow-pace job for a low salary.

The hardest part of the job if there is, just to be alert and responsible. You gotta be polite at all time because the client pays for you to be there and he can ask for you to be removed if you aren't professional. It's relatively an easy job. Well paid for what you do but really not enough for the high cost of life especially in my area.

The most enjoyable part of the job is that when you are working weekends and night shift, you are free to do your personal hobbies on the job as long as you don't disturb your surroundings and that your duties are fulfilled.

A typical day of work would involve reception duties such as clearing visitors who enter the building, call clients to sponsor uncleared visitors. My duties also involved patrolling floors at night to make ensure no damage of property, all doors were locked and escorting employees to their vehicles if they felt unsafe walking alone to their vehicle at night. I learned duties as a patrolling officer listed above, as well as shift supervisor duties. Shift supervisor duties included fire panel training, power outage proceedings, team management of 2-4 guards. The workplace culture is mostly former military, very strict and serious about tasks and duties as outlined by head office. The hardest part about the job was the overnights and having to adjust my sleep cycle of sleeping during the day. My schedule was a rotation which involved one week of overnights and few days rest, then switching to evenings for a week and a few days rest. The most enjoyable part was helping my team to meet and exceed clients expectations.

Making a respectful complain can get you fired and they just don't care about it, all they want is the job to be done.

Even if you have good intentions they won't even gonna Search to see if the person has understand the complaint correctly.

They have loosed my trust but I am looking forwards to gain it back and I hope that my experience with them will have teach them a lot of good things and that they gonna try to improve.

They have the potential for it but are currently not at there full potential.

If you work for them, I would suggest to Never make a complaint even if it is important as they will say you are the problem and you might risk your carreer by doing so.

Best of luck, other then that, it is a great company to work for.

1 of the main responsibilities that I do as a security guard is to write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.

I also circulate among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property.

In a normal work day, another thing that I do is they answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.

In addition to that, they warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.

I liked working in some contracts, but the employer doesn't seem to understand what is required by it's staff in order to keep things rolling in the right direction.  Often confused and aims in the wrong direction.  Staff in often understanding, but otherwise some contracts were really great within the 12 years of work for them.

I have learned a great deal in security working for them from day one, as my Security course was with a Captain from the Canadian Forces.  A lot of the staff is from the military, very strict.

Worked there on the Concordia University Contract for 5 years. Very friendly staff, best I've ever seen on any work place. My supervisor was good but he was very stressed and he got mad very quickly about almost anything. The supervisor decides where he puts you. So one day you could be patroling and next day you could be at a desk. Other than that it's a super easy job. Get's a little long sometimes near the end of the shift. Overall I would go back working there in a heart beat.

People are great, and management where I work are compassionate, and good listeners.
 
Very fair treatment of agents. If you do your work, you can get recognized and rewarded as due. If you don't.... You get what you give.  

Much respect. Well balanced hours, and very flexible to your needs. (Again.... If you deserve).  You can not give minimum and expect maximum return.

The job depends on where you work or if you are on call. Most of the places are nice, however if you are an active person it might not be for you. Lot of work there require to sit all day. For others, the exact opposite, you have to make rounds and stand during almost all your shift.  
Got here because of Covid. Getting the job was pretty easy because it was at a time where they were highly in need of new employees. Now if you are on call, it can be hard to have a good schedule.

I have been working with this company going on 3 years in the Spring. They pay a very decent wage. The job is unionized which is always nice. As a veteran of the CAF I am proud to work for a company that was created after WW1 to help returning soldiers find gainful employment. If you can get a job with the Commissionaires I suggest that you stay with this company. As the title states, they are one of the best companies in the security industry.
