What is the best part of working at the company?
I’ve had a really positive experience working at Community Fire Prevention. The team is supportive, collaborative, and genuinely cares about doing quality work and keeping people safe. Leadership is approachable, communication is encouraged, and there’s a strong focus on teamwork across departments. The company continues to grow, which creates opportunities to learn, take on new responsibilities, and develop professionally. Overall, it’s a great place to work with good people and a positive culture.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Like any growing company, things can get busy and priorities can shift quickly. Meeting deadlines while coordinating across departments can be stressful at times, but it also keeps the work interesting. The support from leadership and coworkers makes a big difference, and the stress comes from caring about doing the job right.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a busy but positive place to work. The environment is professional but friendly, with lots of collaboration and support from coworkers. There’s always something happening, but the team works together and communication is open, which makes a big difference.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
No two days are exactly the same. A typical day is busy and structured, with a mix of planning, coordination, and problem-solving. The work is fast-paced and priorities can shift, but there’s a strong sense of teamwork and clear communication. Each day feels productive, with a real focus on supporting customers, maintaining safety standards, and keeping operations running smoothly.

I can’t stress this enough.

I truly wish I had read the reviews beforehand and believed what others were saying.

I was employed with Community Fire for a short time, and during that period I consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and solid performance. I was always early, built positive relationships with my coworkers, and gave 100% in everything I did. I made a genuine effort to learn beyond my role and contribute wherever possible. Having successfully passed my three-month probationary period, I felt secure in my position - I was mistaken.

Despite my efforts, I experienced a complete lack of recognition and what felt like unrealistic expectations. As a new employee, constructive and positive feedback is essential for growth and motivation, yet none was ever provided. At no point did I feel that my contributions or value were acknowledged.

I joined the company hoping to be part of a supportive and stable team. Unfortunately, the reality was the opposite. It quickly became clear that employee turnover was extremely high, with a constant cycle of people coming and going, often without explanation.

Given my dedication and performance, I believed I wouldn’t become part of that pattern - once again, I was mistaken. I was dismissed without warning, without any prior discussion, and with no explanation. I was told to quietly clear my desk and was escorted out, which felt both humiliating and deeply disrespectful. I later learned that another employee was let go in the exact same manner that very week.

I have nothing positive to say about how I was treated. Over time, it became clear that the sense of “team” was nothing more than a façade. The level of unprofessionalism and disregard for employees remains shocking.

I repeat—RUN!

Community Fire Prevention prior to 2021 was an absolutely amazing company to work for. Unfortunatly, once they got acquired by Onyx-Fire, it has taken a complete nose dive and I would not recommend working here to anyone. The middle management have zero say or respect by corporate and they are mere puppets. Raises, let alone reviews, for office employees arent even a conversation unless they are desperatly trying to keep you from leaving. Please be warned, they may walk and talk like there is so much growth and potential, but unless you are a favorite within the company or in the projects division, there is little to no growth. The only bonus to working there is the people in the every day roles are hard working, intelligent, passionate people. It's a shame that everyone is so undervalued, burnt out and the company has zero fingers on the pulse of how their employees are feeling or copeing. Ignorance is bliss in their minds and upper management loves to "play dumb". Please consider all the negative reviews on here as an honest warning. Hopefully they can turn this company back around but I'd stay clear for at least 3-5 years until they sort themselves out. Hopefully Onyx-Fire invests in a proper change management team for any future purchases as this one was handled extremely poor.

If you care about your happiness or wellbeing I suggest you avoid this place. The company is under new ownership (onyx fire) that does not seem to care about the employees. They seem to only care about their numbers and they make that very clear in the questionable decisions they make.
The amazing employees are overworked and underpaid. Employees are burnt out and desperate for support but their cries for help fall on deaf ears of those at onyx. Most days there is zero appreciation or recognition unless you work for the prized Sprinkler Division. 
Local managers (the ones who want to make a difference) unfortunately have no true say and are merely puppets of onyx. Apparently it's the onyx way or the highway, proven by the countless resignations and terminations. From what I've observed anyone at the company who speaks out will likely be berated or fired.
If head office comes to town, employees typically expect to be unacknowledged or treated disrespectfully... Even stepping away from your desk to grab a coffee or use the washroom looked to annoy Onyx management. Everyone must be working at all times. Vacation is provided but in my experience, it's frowned upon, they made that known in passive aggressive comments.
Avoid this awful organization at all costs, you likely deserve better.

Terrible company to work for. Management has no respect for workers, no appreciation for hard work, and there is zero growth. Toxic environment, poor communication, and constant stress. Would not recommend this company to 
Working at Community Fire Management was one of the worst job experiences I’ve had. A typical day is long, unorganized, and stressful. Management only cares about squeezing as much work as possible out of employees without any recognition or support. The workplace culture is toxic, with favoritism and no real sense of teamwork. The hardest part of the job was the lack of appreciation—you give your time, energy, and effort, but it’s never enough. The only positive was a few good coworkers, but overall, there is no growth, no respect, and no future here.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Community Fire Management. Management is unprofessional, the culture is toxic, and there is no career growth. They overwork people, treat them poorly, and give nothing back in return. Even after years of service, there is no appreciation. This is not a company that values its employees—it only uses them.

“Old Community Fire” was incredible and upheld every Company Core Value to its customers and own People. It put the “Community” in Comfire. Fast forward past  the messy acquisition of Community Fire by Onyx-Fire, and you’re at current day “Community” Fire. Culture-less, soulless, ruthless, senseless,  and complete unawareness could sum up the present day management, workplace environment/culture & typical day at work. If you had planned on genuinely learning or growing professionally in your next job position, keep scrolling! If you value honesty, basic human compassion, proper leadership communication skills and effective direction from upper management, an enjoyable & positive work environment where you actually want to be or just genuinely want to somewhat enjoy your day-to-day… keep looking, you won’t find any of that here. Take this honest review with a heaping spoonful of your favourite sweetener because this is just scraping the surface of what is still yet to come from Community Fire, an Onyx-Fire “Family” Company.

The company has recently gone through a change in ownership and more recently a merger with two other local fire prevention company's. Naturally, this has caused a lot of change, some employees are having a harder time adapting while others are embracing this time and remaining optimistic about the future. The culture among staff has shifted due to this but my role has remained steady and I continue to enjoy what I do everyday. More presence and transparency from new head office could be beneficial. There is a good number of employees/management working to make the merger and acquisition a positive change with more growth and opportunity ahead than what the "old comfire" could have provided. Excited to see what the future holds for this crew.

I would not recommend working for Community Fire. The management team lacks the experience and skills required for effective leadership. Technicians are promoted into senior management roles without proper management training, which leads to poor decision-making and unrealistic expectations. There are no performance reviews or pay increases, and employees who perform well are often given additional responsibilities without compensation. The company also has an extremely high turnover rate and expects new hires to meet targets within their first month. The Toronto-based management, which sets company-wide policies, is even more problematic than the BC leadership. Overall, this is a workplace I would strongly advise avoiding

There are layoffs going on due to poor management from Onyx-Fire,  the parent company. Promises job security and upward mobility and then plots to axe you behind your back. Runs on an absurdly slow system designed decades ago; and constantly, frustratingly, changes processes week to week. Both employees and customers are unhappy with the company, so prepare to hear a lot of complaints from customers. Please do yourself a favour and avoid Community Fire.
