Overall a positive experience. It's an easy job, although it does take time to figure out where the products are. I enjoyed working with most of my coworkers. Supervisors however will watch your every move and report you to management for anything you do that doesn't follow their rules. I also had a supervisor spread lies about me to make me look bad. Management also likes to play favorites and will only promote people they like. 

The job is very repetitive, which is nice if you like routine and prefer not to be challenged, however it can get pretty boring after a while. A large part of the day is spent pretending to look busy, "arranging" products that are already in the correct place or wiping down surfaces that are already clean. If you have nothing else to do, you have to stand there doing nothing and if you look at your phone for more than 10 seconds you will get a warning. 

Socialization with your coworkers is encouraged when there are no customers at the till. However, you will constantly get interrupted and it can be very frustrating to never finish your conversation with someone. 

The hours are very flexible and your are generally able to work as little or as much as you would like. 



Good company to work for. They offered good benefits, as well as free food in the staff room. Upper Management was alright, but tended to not address any concerns employees made. Also, unfortunately, at the location I worked at there were two managers that were alcoholics. That tainted the experience a little bit because they would bully many of the employees, myself included, and they went so far as to threaten my job security when I tried to book off my Grandmother's funeral. I was forced to work that day and was not allowed to trade the shift with another employee. That aside, I learned a lot of cool things there, and still met many cool people. I still shop there today. (Both of those managers are also gone now.)

If you're trained in multiple departments, good luck getting a raise for the extra work. The store is practically empty all the time, yet they expect you to be busy no matter what. If you stop to chat with a coworker for more than 4.3 seconds, you're getting fired. If you're training a coworker who has nothing to do, it's socializing, and you're getting fired. Yet the store manager sits in the office all day, probably sending emails, and watching the cameras. Constant surveillance makes working there uncomfortable. The best thing about the job is the coworkers. Everyone is super welcoming and fun to work with. Don't recommend it unless you're a robot.

Typical day of work ranged from dealing with customers or back in the kitchen prepping food or washing dishes. I learned how to handle customers asking questions on the phone and if I didn't now the answer to get a supervisor on the phone instead. Management was okay but at times they didn't know how to handle certain situations. co- workers ranged from hard working to hardly working. some co workers helped customers easily and some ignored customers all together. Hardest part of the job was to keep my cool when I had a customer yelling at me and telling me how to do my job. Most enjoyable part of the job was the back garden area we had for staff to take a break outside in the fresh air.

The store manager was positive empowering every staff member to be their best, we were more than just staff we were in a beautiful work environment were we thrived. Because we were supported in our belief in the products we were presenting to our community in the city of Calgary. Jars of herbal teas, or smoothies made in store by staff were welcomed in all areas of the store. Our case lot sales and general store sales continually increased because of the level of integrity of service and customer engagement.

I have worked at Community for many years, and I’m sorry to say, it has changed for the worse. The company is struggling financially, which has resulted in many supervisors and managers being let go. This results in a heavy workload for staff, and responsibilities passed on to us that should be the job of supervisors. The people at the top of the company struggle to figure out how to fix all the problems the company is facing. As a result, many staff have left and the ones who remain have low company morale. The ONLY benefit is the pay and benefits are decent. I would think twice about applying, though.

Although working at Community does include common Grocery Store tasks, it also allows for assumption of responsibility allowing employees to change dysfunctional aspects of their work environment, and address any issues that may arise. Also, exercise of knowledge is common place on a typical work day, learning and teaching about health, the body, and supplementation.

I worked here for 5 years as a cashier and loved it! Always had great coworkers and management. There are a lot of opportunities to try out different departments or advance in your own department. You're constantly learning something new about all of the health products and food they carry, which includes sampling! Definitely recommend if you're into health & wellness as well as good people. 

Very good work environment with great training and support. Excellent benefits and discounts. 

Mostly worked with foreigners who weren't interested in connecting or communicating at all. Made for long, quiet boring days.Very isolating. Not much "Community" At Christmas there wasn't even a staff party.

Great management- Helpful and kind. Also organized. If you like working by yourself, this would be a great job! Not much room for advancement.

The do no care about their employees, and likes to blame the lack of sales on individual employees and not the lack of marketing in a brand new city. They are lazy and put everything onto their peons with no one to hold the management team accountable for their poor practices. Who opens a health foods store smack in the beginning of the recession, and then blames their employees for the failure.
