Working at conifex has been an insightful journey, especially for beginners in the industry. The sawmill, albeit old, provides a unique learning ground for those entering the field. Initially, the manual labor aspect might seem daunting, but it's the perfect foundation for understanding the intricacies of the job. Once you get accustomed to the physical demands, the experience becomes rewarding.

One commendable aspect is the emphasis on safety. Despite the aging infrastructure, management prioritizes safety protocols, ensuring a secure work environment. This commitment fosters a sense of trust and reassurance among employees.

Management at conifex  is decent, providing adequate support and guidance when needed. However, there's room for improvement in terms of modernizing equipment and streamlining processes to enhance efficiency.

In conclusion, conifex is a solid starting point for individuals venturing into the industry. While the manual labor and outdated facilities pose initial challenges, the overall experience, coupled with the emphasis on safety, makes it a worthwhile endeavor.

They go to great lengths to provide ample training for safety and productivity. Several of the Supervisors are always willing to assist and provide insight to any questions you may have, as well as take time to show you the whats, whens and wheres necessary to do a proper and good job. 
The job itself is physically demanding, as well as somewhat repetitive, but there is a great deal of satisfaction gained after a hard day or week.
As for workplace culture, well, there is a lot of what is called 'Mill mentality', which is lots of griping about your job, but to be honest, with so many folks in the same mindset, it is quite cathartic.

All in all, Conifex Mackenzie was a great place to work, with many great people to meet and learn from!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The experience in appraisals, and technical work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Supervisor - quite narcissistic and vindictive towards me, always preventing pleasant social interactions and generally unfairly appraising my work after I made a HR report, leading to a 'performance improvement plan' whichbwas designed to out me legally within the 2 year window after which severance would have to be paid.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Generally hands-off. Lots of chronism and 'old boys' which makes it difficult for an individual not previously connected to have a fair run of it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lonely and frightening for me, but that maybnot be the case for you.

If upper management liked the company they would remove the toxicity.

The team I work for is extremely collaborative, full of hard work, but with laughs so you enjoy your day.  

The company itself is going through a large shift in management, taking an old school mill mentality towards a leadership style that fits for every employee within the mill. They are making tremendous strides towards the right direction for safety, efficiency, and morale.

Bringing in new management from other mills not only brings new ideas, but also new people to a small community which helps the overall economy of our lovely small community. 

I worked for Conifex for close to five years, in that time I was trained and qualified on a lot of basic labour jobs and also a few key important jobs. The training I received was good and allowed me to be an effective member of the collective. The upper management and supervisors sometimes left a lot to be desired in their roles and the effective management of the sawmill, communication between the upper level management and the workers was not effective.

Although working here isn't bad, the current management and operating set up does not give a person a feeling of security for the future. Supervision on the maintenance side of the operation is done by people that either have no maintenance experience or have been beaten down by upper management so many times that they have lost interest/don't care anymore. These people for the most part have no interest in hearing what their employees with a lot of maintenance experience suggest for improvements or have say

Management are not professionals at what they  are doing, my old boss thinks he know everything as new journeyman compared to over thirty years of experience.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing they don’t except out aider works well

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A company that wasted fibre so bad and not energy efficient 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Union so very boring and slow pace
