There is a shortage of work almost every year and you won't make 40 hours in the winter months, you start to fear that you're going to lose your job as they do layoffs on the other side of the building every year. The supervisor for the department I work at threatens the workers with disciplinary actions yet never follows through with anything said. Many people are family or close friends with the supervisor and are allowed to stay an extra hour or more on the clock after everyone else has left while you're required to clock out at your shift end.

The work is grueling, expect to be able to lift over 100lbs on a consistent basis unassisted and double assisted. Someone gets hurt every single day and everyone of their team has some long lasting injury.

You don't earn a bonus, this was apparently removed from everyone but the salesmen and corporate people, there is nothing to look forward to in Christmas as you only get 3 days off for that whole season, the pay is mediocre for the physically demanding requirements of the job. I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone, save yourself the head ache.

EXTREMELY TOXIC WORKPLACE! WATCH OUT! 

Mitten has an extremely toxic work environment, unless you're the Sales manager or Upper management's pet they wont care about  what you bring to the table whether its clientele knowledge, Product knowledge, industry knowledge so on and so forth. they have had several rotations of reps prior to me joining yet they never valued any past or current reps contributions. It is a REVOLVING DOOR.  The upper management is in Saskatoon and they have no clue about  the BC market, they think  that the BC Construction market, market trends and products are the same as they use in the SK province. The compensation package that reps get can be changed at anytime without their input, so watch out for your own interests you might be making ABC today and after a few months it can be significantly less or changed to some other system at the drop of a dime. They have also had major rotation in other branches such as Calgary etc. I would be vigilant  while applying here. Best is to stay away from them. 

A very good place to learn how lean, Kanban, 6 sigma and continuous improvement can enhance production results in a Just In Time Manufacturing Facility. The Assembly Team Members always did their best to achieve Team Victories and Celebrations .. every day! Targets were posted at the beginning of each shift and updated hourly to show results. It was very seldom that the targets were not achieved without justification. A finely oiled machine which achieved success, when provided with everything needed to perform their required scheduled work. 

The day shift supervisor is bat crazy and probably should be commited to a retirement home.

They pick on immigrants and be little you 
The HR department is full of crooks that are not thier to work just collect money for looking busy 
Doctors notes don't mean anything 
Personal health and safety mean nothing ply gem 
They preach quality but after 10 minutes of machines breaking they want quantity 
Definitely not a place you want to work if youre looking to move up on the world 
You will be a robot and will get treated like one 
Once you get hurt your job is no more 
Everyone ther hates their job

There is a total disconnect between what is expected from you and what is possible to deliver. Upper management comes with impossible numbers, all products had a lead time of 20 weeks ( not a typo) for most of the time I was there.  How can you sell a lot of you don't deliver the merchandise? Worse, do it partially and lose the same window 3 times in a row.

There is no middle management. My manager at the time had 3 more roles on top of branch manager. It was a nightmare. Senior coworkers were nice, but it was a free for all in the sales. No support, no materials, toss you to the wolfs and see if you run ( CEO words, not mine, during a sales meeting). 

Zero training, the work of 3 people is given to one person. Continued layoffs causes stress as people are scared they are next and will throw anyone and everyone under the bus to save themselves.  Management has no clue how to manage their departments and has their favourites. If you are not a favourite or have worked there for years you will be talked about and shamed behind your back. Bullying is prominent, co workers exclude targets as a punishment / humiliation tactic. If reported you will be punished, isolated and blamed before you are let go.  Co workers gang up to make a cover story to blame push the victim.  Do not work here.

Management is filled with incompetent and unqualified personnel. Constantly being asked to hide information, or not do the functions of a supervisory role! Will intimidate employees in health and safety; to change wcb paperwork etc. Constantly firing people without cause; and calling it a lay off when the turn around is over 120% and new staff are in role within a week! Human Resources is filled with incompetence that I’ve never seen before…….

The location of the company, as well as i really like my work as machine operator and my workmate

I had no stressful time when i was working at ply gem i was so happy about my work

Really bad supervisors and managers over over their employees also there is no opportunity for advancement

Over worker little pay ..  no job advancement ... They give advancement to people that only work 6 months

The manager is great, very friendly and understanding & fair, unfortunately being a sml company there are no benefits, no room to grow if your working in the office. Since there is no in house staff other then the admin & the manager that is why I put the rating at 3 since there is not much ambience in such a sml office & job security being a sml company the owner could go out of business therefore not sure if the job can be secured & as an admin definitely no raises or advancements but wonderful place to work!
