The company is a good start to enter into the IT Security field.  You work with a lot of different technologies.  

The downside is that you don't really have the focus to become an 'expert' as THG is a sales driven organization.  The pay isn't great at least from a technical resource standpoint.  The focus will always lean towards the sales side rather than the development of key IT services.  

Because of this, I wouldn't truly consider this to be an IT-security company, instead an IT security vendor integrator.   They will install IT security products in your environment.  

Now if you're just starting out in IT, it's great because you will have the opportunity to work with IT security technology.  But I would consider this for most people to be a stepping stone job, if they want to really enter an IT security job.

Now, don't get me wrong, there are some really intelligent people that work with the company, some of the best I've ever worked with.  But the majority of the company are not what I would consider 'experts'.  

There is constant shuffling of management team.  The VP's, Directors and managers change on a regular basis.  Which leads to some of the focus issues.  It's tough to determine what direction the company is going in.

1. Depending on where you work, you may have flexibility with your hours (work from home, etc.)
2. Working in the SOC is shift work since it is 24/7. Good for those starting out in the Cybersecurity Field (new grads, etc.)
4. Certain departments might lack some direction from management
5. Still a start-up mentality but slowly changing by adding more process and tools
6. Benefits are OK, Group RRSP exists but NO matching, 80% Medical/Dental but lack certain things. No Pension.
7. Some of the roles: SOC T1, T2, T3 Analyst, TAM, Consulting Engineers, IR Engineer, Security Administrators, Professional Services Engineers, QSA, Pentester, Red Team, Blue Team
8. Certain roles have the ability to travel to Conferences/Training
9. No training program. Relies on  free vendor training
10. Certain departments do not have a clear direction

-Typical Day: 9-5 organizing with colleague goals for the day and the week and spending the rest of the day actively coding..
-Learned: back-end organization, a lot of querying using Splunk/Sumo logic, integrating those querying systems into applications and visualizations.
- Management: Give you a project and you go at it. Comes by to check on progress and was supportive.
- Hardest Part of the job: Learning the back-end of their systems. It was a maze at first, but eventually became second nature.
- Most Enjoyable Part: Relaxed developer environment and reasonable time given to learn new things rather than being under undue pressure.

Detected security issues, created customer tickets and managed problems until closure;
Organized escalations and collaborated with internal technology teams to ensure timely resolution of issues;
Ensured that Service Level Agreements are met;
Performed system maintenance and maintained current documentation
Provided resolution plans for system and network issues;
Reported common and repeat problems (trend analysis) to Management and propose process and technical improvements.
Executed basic connectivity testing for various firewalls such as McAfee, Cisco ASA, Check Point, Palo Alto and etc.  
Collected security logs from different log collectors such as RSA and QRadar and analyzed per process

Management here is not concerned with making proactive, sensible decisions that would improve the working lives of the employees, and by extension improve the services. The chief goal of managed services is to deliver the bare minimum of what we said we would do (often failing that) in the cheapest way possible. 

Analysts are understaffed, underpaid, under trained, and made to feel like they aren't doing enough. There are too many "crisis" situations because the SOC receives the results of poorly executed projects. There is no apparent reflection at the higher levels, as the same problems keep repeating.

Do not recommend.

Working conditions are terrible for analysts. You’re underpaid relative to the rest of the industry, you will never get time to take a break, and you won’t be able to eat a lunch. 

Management is terrible. You’ll be yelled at and publicly humiliated in front of your co-workers if even the slightest mistake is made. If you have a slow day get ready to hear about it from C level executives. 

You’ll never see turnover like this in any other company. 

I would never recommend this company to anyone unless they’re extremely desperate.

Last minute changes, high pressure moments

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Generally positive. Excellent Chief People Officer and team

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
830am - 430/5pm; some late or early days depending on meetings in office.

Great place to work if your starting out in the security industry. Lots of tools to learn and work with. Extremely high turn over due to under staffing, over working of the employees and low salary for the type of money being paid by the clients none of this should be an issue.

When I received my offer, I was given a career path at HG. Each day I am challenged by the work in front of me. The support and guidance I get from my managers and teammates make feel a part of the greater organization. 

In a world of no job security, I feel included, safe, and challenged every day in my work environment.

Overall the company is new so they offer a lot of growth opportunities, but at the same time the turnover rate of employees is so high from the top position down to the bottom that they always need a roll to be fulfilled. Employees leave due to not being paid enough and being respected and credited for the work they put in. Especially the SOC.
