The company adjusted to the pandemic and the management seemed pretty adept and open to feedback at first, but they grew so fast and made a ton of changes to management throughout 2021. You can tell that a few of the new managers don't know how to actually manage people or a team by the flip-flopping suggestions and backtracking of their words. They were severely overlooking the great need for a UX research and design team and lost amazing talent that could have transferred their skills to supplement what Cymax is lacking. They claimed they were plenty of opportunities to advance or switch teams yet the new management did not offer support to do so. The new management didn't even know what user experience meant! Don't bother working as a marketing analyst, you're on the bottom of the rung at Cymax. They really need analyst but don't offer any incentives or motivation. Several analysts were unable to receive pay raises - management is vague and the company is stingy. They hire in large quantities to keep up with growth but don't incentivize. Culture is pretty good otherwise. I was more supported by account managers working on the same vendors than my actual supervisors. CEO is pretty hands on so that was unique and refreshing.

It is WFH which is nice. You are provided with a work laptop

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is not a lot of collaborating amongst departments and the managers like yes sirs. The company has bad customer service with little to no supervision. There is no job security as there have been large layoffs every year or two.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It can be a toxic environment if you try to voice opinions or concerns. The HR department will protect the management not the staff. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Each day is stressful due to lack of supervision or guidance. Dealing with escalated clients and vendors that are not getting help from customer service.

- very open and approachable culture: CEO and executives ask for genuine feedback and, more importantly, listen to and apply what people have to say

- growing quickly: very exciting to be part of such a high growth phase in an organization
- people might be challenged by the lack of structure in some areas of the business, however this can also be seen as opportunity to build & make an impact. Cymax may be a challenging  environment for those who don't enjoy ambiguity and fast paced environments. 

I was promoted quickly and originally felt it was a great job. That changed when I watched great employees not shown leadership. They weren't able to grow and only reprimanded for tiny things. The company also has issues it can't avoid under the dropship model. Things are constantly backordered and the customer service policy to the waiting customers is dismissive. The owners are heavily involved which I would usually admire however they lack some of the important skills to bolster morale. They fired one of their only HR ladies without cause, who was greatly limited to how she could support employees due to owners leading through fear.. Points for not asking anyone to work overtime, and for creating their own tech interface.

Cymax is a great place to work. The management team genuinely cares, they listen and make changes based on feedback. 

The company culture is very autonomous, so people are given a lot of freedom as long as work is getting done (flex hours year round, 4 day work weeks in the summer etc.) Since e-commerce is such a rapidly changing industry, internal roles and responsibilities evolve and change quickly to keep up, making it a really fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

The team is fantastic and the company does a good job of promoting diversity and fun while still getting things done. 



It's a stressful environment. Management will promise you things but they won't even give you a salary hike after 2 years. Not matching the inflation rate.  The management is busy growing the company and doesn't care about the ground reality of employees.  I would suggest joining the company if you don't have any option. Keep it your last resort. For a Business Analyst entry-level position they took 3 interviews including an initial screen with HR and only paid $50K. They have work but they don't want to pay employees

Have been working for over a month; everyone inside the company I've interacted so far has been super approachable and knowledgeable. So much going on every day, and so much to learn.

The thing I liked the best about working here is that I get to learn about stuff that's beyond my role. But I've learned that the company is trying to "departmenalize" different aspects of the business; I really hope that won't discourage people from learning about other aspects of the business. After all, if everyone in the company has a deep understanding of the different aspects of the business, we act as one.

It used to be a structured place when I joined, you could tell there were efforts to make it worthwhile, from weekly department games to chats with CEO, etc.... The place is currently a cesspit of toxicity, zero values, zero regard for mental health, hire and fire at will....every single person I met or worked with has been fired, from directors to vps to managers to associate.

The ones lucky enough not to get fired left on time....the managers are a joke, Infact the current Cs manager is the biggest joke; entirely clueless about customer service and boldly says it in meetings...

The people at Cymax are the true wealth of the company. People are genuinely excited to come in to work (even virtually), everyone is very approachable and positive. They put a big emphasis on developing and maintain a strong culture, celebrating diversity within the organization. We use Microsoft teams to keep in contact with each other through out the day, which is awesome compared to workplaces where snappy emails are the primary means of communication between departments (*This was the case at my previous workplace)


Lots of tools for data analysis that are used. Infrastructure is extremely organized and set up properly. Everyone cares deeply about their work and there is a great overall diverse culture to the teams. The work appears to be fast-paced, but very properly managed across all roles. Everyone responds within minutes to any questions posed and leaders take a lot of responsibility.
