Cypress Mountain

Should be a fun place to work as season pass seems like a great incentive to work there however is not worth it. Management is not good, little training provided and everyone expected to train each other. Nobody fully understands what's going on and management get angry whenever tasks aren't done properly even though they aren't explained or outlined, ever. Extremely busy and fast paced environment and the mountain is not equipped to deal with this huge number of people resulting in frustrated staff and unhappy customers.
They do offer staff perks including the seasons pass and monthly recognition programs with rewards such as skiing / snowboarding equipment or tickets but I personally do not feel these would make the job worth it. "Monthly" staff events were only run a few times during the season. More talk than action it seemed.
Bus available, have to pay "deposit" which most staff will not get back as they are discontinued without any notice and unable to make their way back up to the mountain to claim it back as bus will have stopped. If a staff member was able to catch the bus and get their deposit back, they would have to wait on the mountain for 8 hours before being able to go down again. Hour commute each way, from downtown. Not even guaranteed a seat on the bus. Staff rarely given priority on the bus having to stand for the entire journey.
Many staff disregarded at the end of season without a thank you or goodbye, simply getting shifts cut until the end with no chance to say goodbye or pick up things let alone a warning to know when would be their last shift.
Would not recommend simply due to management. Staff who work there were great and bonded well together but this bond was mostly over the complete mess of the way the departments were run. Employees are the only thing that helped the craziness of the job. Old and outdated systems, unrealistic expectations and inadequate management. Ridiculously high turnover.
Many staff had problems and went to HR which were blatantly ignored again and again. The CEO contacted about problems and also ignored them with the false guarantee to look into these issues which of course, never happened and no closure or feedback was given. Would seem completely ludicrous to ever expect an issue to be solved let alone an apology.

If i could give a rating of no stars, I would. 

A few notes on my season and a half of employment before I walked out the door. 

THEY DO NOT PAY OVERTIME!!!!!!
Even though the workload is completely ridiculous and every department is deliberately understaffed. We were also made to edit our timesheets every week which I also believe is illegal?

There is an bullying culture that runs rampant throughout management there that is kept away from the public. The HR Director is literally an abusive bully. The main accountant is abusive and rude and is never penalized for it. The Food and Beverage manager is also abusive and rude. When brought to my superiors it was never dealt with and continued happening. 

The Marketing Director watches movies and scrolls Facebook with his feet on his desk while his employees scramble under terrible mismanagement and infinite amounts of work.

The HR director will talk about you to other directors (which is completely unethical and a breach of her job) and will tell anyone who you have a complaint against about it. They had a hand in actively gaslighting someone from their job. I witnessed it. 

The HR director will also make inappropriate jokes about the #metoo movement. When this was brought to the Marketing Directors attention it was swept under the rug because the board of directors was coming and they didn't want to "stir the pot". 
Extremely unprofessional. 

There is no proper training outside of what's mandated by OHS. Most of the time you are left to just figure it out with no support or resources, outdated/overloaded systems and broken equipment. 

Management will spend the absolute least amount of money they can on EVERYTHING (including staff events and parties) and you will probably have to stand on the staff bus all the way from Kits because there isn't enough room for you. The same buses that leak diesel and oil constantly all over the parking lot and roads.

Do not work for this company. It is an absolute joke. 

A typical day you start with the safety talk and go over any questions you have and you are assigned the lift you are working at for the day. You work with one other person as they have to be on the opposite side of the lift as you. All you have to do is make sure nobody is injured when loading and unloading the lift by slowing it down if someone has difficulties on skis or snowboards. You talk to  people to pass the time but sometimes the lift is too loud and they cant hear you or they just don't want to talk to  you for 5 seconds. A supervisor comes by half way through your shift to switch you from top to bottom or bottom to top and that is the only break you get. You don't get to use the washroom a lot so go before your shift. Most of the co-workers were fun to work with but cypress has the worst management for a mountain in Vancouver in my opinion. Other than the working part I enjoyed going snowboarding before my shift most of the days, it puts you in a better mood before you start your shift.

This review is about the Food & Beverage apartment only!! I can't say anything about the other departments.

A workplace with lots of nice people who come from all over the world to work there for the season. It's also great that you have the opportunity to ski before and after your shifts.
However, there are far too many supervisors, some of whom are not good, whose areas of responsibility are not clear to me. In addition, the management makes non-transparent decisions and you are left with the feeling that you are not always treated fairly.
It's okay as a seasonal job and a great opportunity to meet fun people. However, not recommended if you want to earn good money or develop yourself at work.

As a lift attendant at Liftops, I've had a firsthand experience of the company's glaring mismanagement. From inconsistent scheduling to inadequate training to Neglect of Employee Welfare. Overall, my experience as a lift attendant at Liftops has been marred by frustration and disillusionment due to the company's abysmal management practices. Unless significant changes are made to address these issues, I fear that Liftops will continue to struggle in retaining competent and motivated employees, ultimately compromising the quality of service it provides to guests.

Management is a mess and has bad communication, blatant aggression and bullies get rewarded. Don't train employees properly and treat them badly when they make mistakes (which is because they need more training). The work load is unfair with supervisors pushing kitchen staff to keep busy or ''appear'' busy whilst they sit with their feet up glued to their phone not paying attention or doing any work themselves. Worked full time and didn't use my season pass because I was too tired from the commute plus ended up leaving before the season was over because of an injury due to managements negligence.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The bus to pick us up and off if you can’t drive.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having enough workers at stations and not being trained properly for stations and having to do a test to get hired.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful working environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Clocking in and then writing down which station you will work at for half the day and then switching to the other station.

It was so much fun, amazing for the season.  The people and customers are the best part of the job. Everyone is happy to be there and you really create a community with all the people around you. Mountain perks are amazing if you like snow sports. Most days are relaxing and chill with rushes of people at times. The hardest part for me was the commute but they do have options for those who dont drive which is great. The best part was honestly just being on the mountain. Its surreal being able to work there. 

My job at Cypress Mountain was very enjoyable.  My days included general grounds maintenance of the Tube Park, operating the tow, supervising customers to ensure their safety and enjoyment of the Tube Park and answering questions.  I was a member of an excellent team of Tube Park employees which included supervisors and managers.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working with the public and being outdoors.  Unfortunately, due to poor snow conditions on the mountain we did not have a full season.

If you only care about the payment, you won't become happy here. But if you work here for the experience, it can be amazing regarding excellent benefits, especially free skiing of course. In the Nordic Rental Shop the atmosphere is quiet cozy and fun, as long as it is not peak time. So it is really cool for Work & Travellers, who rather want to have a fun workplace than much money.
